I love a pencil-and-paper type game. This was really fun! I appreciate the art style

Developer

Thanks!

I enjoyed the look of the game and puzzles you created! I also appreciate your time and comments on so many other games in this jam, it takes a lot of effort to play a bunch of games after you just did a game jam sprint. Let alone leave comments on what you played throughout the community. Cheers

Developer

Wow thank you for the kind words.  It's not completely selfless playing others' games though, because it also makes my game more popular and I think that's great about the way game jams work.

I love the look of the game, the puzzles make you think in a good way, great job!

Developer

Glad you liked it!

Great atmosphere! it was pretty fun to have to pull out pen and paper to solve it (by that I mean ms paint). I definitely needed the hint on that first puzzle because I know nothing about sudoku at all lol. But yeah good vibes, nice raising of intensity with the mazes, good job!

Developer

I was hesitant about the first sudoku puzzle because that kinda was the only one that required knowledge outside of the game, but glad you continued on with the game.

Cool game! It's a fun and atmospheric puzzle game, I had a lot of fun solving all of the puzzles. There was a few walls I could walk through, but overall I didn't have any issues playing in browser. Great work!

Developer

Where were the walls you could walk through? I made the walls in such a silly way where I placed the collision boxes after the meshes and I for sure may have missed a few walls lol. Thanks for playing.

I honestly forget, it was one of the first dead ends after escaping the room.

Developer

Ok thanks for the response.

Great athmosphere! i'm bad at these kinds of puzzles so i did use most of the hints but still liked it a lot!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

There we go, planted a tree!

Beat the game without looking at hints, the pen and paper were quite useful! Though, I will say that the maze portions (other than the one with the puzzle) seemed a bit unnecessary.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad to know it's beatable without the hints. I agree with you that the mazes don't add a ton. Initially, the whole game was supposed to be located in a labyrinth and you would have to be drawing a map to track the paths, but then we didn't end up doing that.

I downloaded the exe but it wouldn't let me disengage with the first door after solving the puzzle. Finished the rest on browser, had to look up some solutions because I didn't want to backtrack through the scary maze.

You should look at InputEvent in Godot's docs, it's pretty easy to prevent a button from double clicking like it is here.

Oh I forgot to say: awesome game!

Developer

Thanks for playing. I really gotta look into the InputEvents then, but it's so weird, because with my laptop I've not had any of these bugs people are reporting about.

"I don't need a pen and paper" - me two minutes before getting a pen and paper.

Loved the puzzles! thanks for posting the solutions for when I got stuck.

Developer

Hahaha thanks for playing!

Great presentation and fun, original puzzles to solve. I was freaking out in the maze, that music is horrifying! Nice work!

Developer

Thank you

The atmosphere was eerie and well done. Solving the puzzles on pen and paper were satisfying. I enjoyed playing!

Developer

Glad you liked it

this was really fun, I liked needing a pen and paper. I ended up playing through twice, because I thought it froze at the end when the tree grew. I think it’d benefit from a more obvious end of game, but otherwise was cool! Had some mouthwashing vibes with the style and music.

Developer(+1)

Oh I'm sorry for wasting your time with the ending but I'm very happy that you were intrigued enough to play through it twice. With the exe version,  the game would close itself, but on itch.io it doesn't work sadly. Thanks for playing :)

Managed to solve the first 2 puzzle without looking at the answers! The visuals are super cool

Developer

Nice and thanks for playing!

Nice stuff, I never knew I needed psych-horror Myst but now that I've got it I'm happy. Good variety of puzzles with numerical, logical, and spatial thinking. I had some of the same input issues as others, but I figured out that if you hold space while interacting instead of pressing, it'll defocus when space is released instead of locking you in.  Walking platform puzzle was my favorite, reminded me of the Keep section in The Witness.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll have to look into those games you mentioned more. I don't know what's up with all the input issues, but thanks for not giving up!

Cool puzzles and great atmosphere! The only one I had trouble with was the first one, still don't quite where the addition takes place for the numbers but the rest were easy to understand. I especially like when the game quit itself, that was spooky. Perfectly paced experience

Developer

Thanks so much. We didn't get to playtest at all and it's hard to gauge how difficult/confusing the puzzles may be, but I'm glad you made it to the end if even with some help!

Submitted

Nice escape-room experience! Liked the nice little number puzzles :)

There was an issue that often, when I pressed "space," - I closed and immediately opened again the thing I interacted with. It probably requires some delay, or using "release" or "just pressed" for action? Also the game froze at some point, and I guess that's godot's particle issue?

Great submission overall, and kudos for Godot!

Developer

Hmm interesting there shouldn't be such issue with the inputs, I did try to prevent the exact scenario you're describing. I think the freezing maybe comes from the web version which I assume you played. Thanks for playing anyways!

Submitted

I was hesitant to play this because I didn’t want to go grab a pen and paper. But I’m glad I decided to because it was very fun! I enjoyed working through the puzzles.

At the end of the game I’m not sure there’s something I missed. I’ll be vague with my question as to avoid spoilers: I went to spawn and through the door, am I supposed to do something on the final platform, or is that the end of the game?

Developer(+1)

Omg thanks for playing! I love that you gave the game a chance. Made my day.
As to the ending - I think you may have missed one of the items that you have to grab. You are supposed to have seeds, water and dirt, which you'll plant at the end.  The items are located at the earlier puzzles, I should have mentioned something about them for sure, it was left too vague.

Very cool, love the aesthetic

Submitted

Loved the visual and idea! But I think it bugged when I was interacting with things. i could never get back out.

Developer (1 edit)

Really? I've never noticed anything like this. Can't you just press spacebar to back out? What browser did you use?

Submitted

Chrome, let me try again.

Submitted

Yeah Chrome on Mac.  After solving the keypad, the door opens but I can't move or back out.

The sudoku hint also caused this issue once or twice. It wouldn't close and locked me in place.

Developer

This sucks to hear. I have to assume it has something to do with mac. Thanks for trying anyways!

The visual aesthetic is excellent and it really ties in well with the puzzle mechanics. The overall atmosphere would benefit from tweaking the sound design - variety in the walking sounds, restraint in the intensity of the music (ramp up to the aggressive rhythm and provide periods of calm for juxtaposition), for example

I also would have liked to be able to use the actual number keys for entering the codes.

Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! We considered using the actual number keys for the inputs, but then we thought that if we want to add controller inputs that wouldn't work.
