This is the best game I've played on this jam.
The mechanics are very well thought out and fun, the visuals are impeccably done. The bosses are varied and interesting.
Good job
One of the most difficult games of the jam i have played so far and i think i played more than 20 games. This is almost 8-bit era or NES hard difficulty if you will. You gotta die 20 times in a boss fight to build muscle memory and figure out their attack patterns. I managed to kill the spider-thing and the frog boss. I'll give it another go with the tree boss later. I broke one star from one bcs game really frustrates you with it's difficulty when you first play it. But funny enough you still want to play and finish it like the Soulsborne games. Other things that take away from fun is the hit box of player character. Sometimes you get damage even if the projectile goes right by you. Dashing system is fun but glitchy. Sometimes it dashes on the same position, doesn't move to the position where you click on and makes you get hit sometimes. Fun: 4/5
Visually speaking boss designs are good but not the best in the jam i think(Although i like design of lamp boss pretty much). However in terms of boss fight design, i think they are great. Every boss has 3-4 phases with completely distinct attack patterns. You gotta think and strategize to beat them. Boss Design: 5/5
You used the theme as a plot device for the game's story. Which is nice and i really like your narrative style btw. But still i would prefer it to be used as a game mechanic which adds more depth to gameplay. Use of Theme: 3/5
As i mentioned before, the dashing mechanic is a little glitchy. It doesn't move your character to the position you click on, it's stuck on the same place sometimes. Also i wish there was more than just the dashin attack. I mean i know you designed game on this mechanic, but right not all you do is run and dash. I little more variety in gameplay would be nice. Controls: 3/5
Jazz music playing in the bacground sounds cool. Boss musics reminded of Persona 5. sfx are fine too but sound is cracking on the webGL version of the game. Sound/Music: 4/5
Art is the strongest aspect of this game in my opinion. The intro cutscene is perfect and succeeds on telling the story without any dialogue. Handrawn cutscenes, main character, bosses they all look great. Enviroments aren't the same quality with characters i think but they still look good. I love your cover art btw, so damn cool. The use of red/black/white color palette on the main character reminded me of Persona 5 too. Art/Visuals: 5/5
Despite all it's flaws i mentioned above, i think this is one of the best games i played in the jam. It's artstyle is cool as hell and combat is fun, engaging. Nicely done and good luck in the jam/ in your future projects.
Edit: I managed to kill the tree boss too. It was suprisingly easier in my last attempt. Love the ending cutscene!
Good job! Will come and play it more thoroughly, trying to get through a basic test run and at least give it a try! Trying to get to everyone I can!
Cool name! some good things and some strange things in this one overall good job tho! 3.5/5
after re-rate i change to solid 4/5 really great!
if you can re-save or re-rate ours all of our previous ratings were deleted by mis communication… sorry for inconvenience
Best of luck! If you get the chance to read in time!
Really nice visuals and music. The cinematic add a level of polish to the presentation. The main attractive to me was the dash based gameplay, really intuitive and fun to use. Great job!
The game is good, and the core mechanic(dash attack) of this game seems like a good choice.
but the way the dash mechanic Most of the time repositions the player back to where the player dashed from is a very annoying feature, please avoid it. That feature not only make the game unfun and it also creates frustrations.
Even though, that one flaw takes away the enjoyment, there are many good stuffs in this game. I like how bosses have many phases and many attacks.
I really liked this one, but it was hard to play all the bosses with the constant freezing the game had sometimes. It reminded me of Ubermosh in terms of the movility and constant action, the dash feels really satisfactory (even if sometimes the weak points are a bit hard to hit), the bosses have quite a lot of attacks to keep up a good fight and the way you tell the story/artstyle adds a lot to it as well.
Father Genndy would by proud! Cool visuals and intoductory scene are awesome, so much character expression with those colours and sounds! It's a shame that in boss fights there is no music at all( Also the cursor restriction when you can dash only on the edge of the circle is really annoying when you try to do small jumps. Artwork at the last and second cutscenes are really sloppy, but it's understandable as the time period were quite short.
With a little tweaking and polish it would be great artistic game!
Visuals are great, well done
I really liked the core dash mechanic here. The sound effects made dashing feel very good!
The core mechanic is great and nicely implemented, Visuals are great as well. Good entry.
The gameplay are cool, really like the parts destory type of hp, and how you can see how many phase the bosses have left. The visual are nice, the cutscene are interesting, and the boss design are nice too.
The music are really nice, tho I don't know why but after retry the first boss a few times, the music stop, I restarted and try again and in the second boss it happened again, which is unfortunate since the first boss music and the cutscene music is really nice.
But still, cool game!
Incredible graphics and core gameplay, sometimes I feel like the attack doesn't hit the boss, this melee combat makes you take a lot of damage and the player dies very quickly, the pace of the game is a lot of fun, if it were a shoot with some similar melee attack concept would be nice.
Oh, it's a game where the gameplay is unique and easy to understand. The images are simple but stylish and beautiful as well.
I'd also like to invite you to play my game if you're interested.
Ayo this game is cool!
The art and the music is great. I really loved playing this game. It looks like it took a lot of time and effort to make. Good Job.
Just completed the game and wow the game is fantastic. Your Hyper Light Drifter inspiration is to the point and captured it's feel perfectly. Really enjoyed my time with this.
I'm really torn on this one.
The overall presentation is just dripping with cool factor. Very few games make me go " Now that is just the embodiment of cool ". This is definitely one of them. Visuals and music as a whole are great.
I like the main mechanic, however it seemed to not hit anything sometimes. ( Even with the tutorial boss )
The character designs for the bosses I encountered were very cool. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get past the second boss even after a few tries ( the boss which was a bunch of hands ) because it keeps going to the top of the level and doing it's laser beam attack which is honestly unfairly killing me then and there since I can't dodge at all
I feel like if you had a second control which was something like having the player teleport to the position you're aiming at, it would help a lot more in terms of both positioning and mobility since it would also act as a dash. Especially since you're basically in bullet-time when aiming
As it stands, I think this game has some killer ideas and definitely has the style to back it up, but some of the design could've been better
Use bullet time to fight - takes a bit of getting started but very fun mechanic! Jazz is fantastic, completely immersive to the beat.
Distinctive visual style and plot performances. So unique!
Great storytelling! Could easily see this expanded!
