Amazing entry. Movement feels snappy and cool sfx. Reminded me of old arcade games.

You spin a lot :D
Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
No but the source code was written during the jam. Various assests (VFX in pariticular required adjustments to make them mobile friendly).

Wow! How memorable and nice game. I don't think i get the targeting, feels like i just think of dodging the bullet not caring about my bullet hit the boss. Maybe make the boss or noticeable part of it circle around the end of bullet trajectory like the classic Gyruss. Nice graphic btw!
Care to try my game to, thank you.
Sweet space game, love the VFX, and the spin mechanics, I tried and tried, as soon as i figured out how to get the buffs it was a win for me. Super satisfying! Feel free to try ours if you like!
A very attractive game. Very good work for a month of development. Congratulations. I hope you keep working on your project. Good luck in the Jam! Cheers!
Hey thanks for playing and the kind feedback.
Yes I am still working on it and expanding it into a more whole game experience (not just bosses, but stages with waves of smaller fighters and so on. Also having a mobile/touch friendly version in the works.
Good luck to you too, gonna test your game tonight.
Very cool visuals brings me back to star fox days! Would be nice to have a bit more control over my aim i feel like my windows to hit the boss are super limited based on the camera movement. I like the use of spin though to turn a traditional star fox style game into focus on rotation around!
This looks fantastic! It's like star fox but my eyes don't hurt!
Visually beautiful!
Did you do it in 3d?
please try my 2d duck game. Love to hear feedback.
Cool use of theme! It was a bit hard for me, but might be a skill issue lol.
I like the design of the ships plus the controls feel great which means you can drop right in with no resistance and play. Great job!
Really nice game, works slow on browswer and that killed my experience a bit, but I its a good idea and I liked it, has lot of potential.
I am sorry to hear that the web build did not gave you a smooth experience.
Since I put some time and effort into making sure the build would work on all machines I have access to, I am really interessted to investigate what could be the problem.
Do you mind my asking about your system specs/operating system and browser (incl. the version)?
I do use a lot of VFX so it can be quiet taxing on older hardware. How would you compare the experience to other 3d webgl games in the jam?
Thanks in advance!
A 5600G is not a bad system at all.
The game should run just fine with an 5600g. I did test everything on a mid/low-range laptop featuring an i5-12500H with its integrated GPU (which is a lot weaker then the 5600g) and it never dropped below 60FPS (Chrome and Firefox).
Probably there is something wrong with your browser settings? Hardware acceleration disabled or something like that?
You could try the official WebGL samples at https://webglsamples.org/ if they do not run at a solid 60 FPS there is something funky going on in your browser.
In case you are using Google Chrome you could check the GPU status by typing:
chrome://gpu
into the topbar. This will open a tab and there should be WebGL and WebGL2 shown as "Hardware accelerated" if it says "Software only" the GPU wont be used and everything will be calculated by the CPU and this is awfully slow.
Please let me know your findings.
Thanks in advance!
Yep! If you disabled hardware acceleration all WebGL games can not use the GPU and will be rendered in software only and that means they will be a slideshow at best.
Could you please re-enable hardware acceleration for a moment and retest the entries that ran slowly? You can disable it again afterwards if you like.
I build in a hidden performance overlay, you can enable and cycle through it by pressing CTRL-F10 and CTRL-F11
Some one send me a note that the game would run at 144 FPS on an Ryzen 5600H with integrated graphics which is the lower power mobile variant of your 5600G.
So you should be just fine.
That was fantastic. My heart was racing as I got closer to the high score.
I felt like I was in Star Wars, really good. A spaceship game like a boss.
As I have played It quite often through the time of development to give Lutz some feedback, I must say it came a very long way! Initially Lutz wasn’t to join the Jam because of time issues, but I’m glad he did! I really like where the game is right now!
It is fun, engaging, visually really nicely done and “Spinning” is not just a gimmick, It’s at the core of the game and I find it very well fitting and well done presented! So Lutz, job very well done, keep the updates coming! ;)
Visuals are great, music is fitting, no bugs encountered! Solid Work!
Feedback wishlist:
- some indicator where (and when) to stand to get the buff
- way to target boss when he isn't in the center of screen where you auto shoot
And spin was strong within this one!
Hey you weren't lying when you said you spin a lot! This game look great and feels very snappy! I think the first boss should have less health.
Welcome to the world of SpinRuss! While the name sounds odd, please take it as a nod towards the classic arcade 'Gyruss' which inspired this game. Of course time in a jam is limitied and I had to cut back the majority of what I wanted to implement, but we are all in the same boat on this.
The boss will certainly look very tanky at the beginning and he since he is a destroyer class ship he should be. The key to beating him rests in the power ups you can collect. At max fire power and fire rate you will shred him very easily you just need to survive long enough!
My current highscore is 49790 but I am sure you can beat it, right? Screenshot or it did not happen!
