Game's Take on the Theme
You spin a lot :D

Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
No but the source code was written during the jam. Various assests (VFX in pariticular required adjustments to make them mobile friendly).

Fun take on classic space shooter games. I like the art and the effects. The boss was a bit too tough for me, and feel like the windows to hit the the boss are too narrow, but I do like the camera sequencing.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Yes you are right about the hit window. I do have plans for better targeting (especially to take out the turrets) along with some homing missles but could not finish that in time.

Submitted(+1)

I love the fact that the fight is sequenced by camera and ship position ! it add a really cool cinematic looking touch. Models are good, the fight is fairly balanced, and FX are just the right amount to make everything more dynamic, without obstructing vision or understanding. Well done !

Developer

Thank you for playing and your kind feedback, I am gladly returning the favour.

Fun game, really feels like it's straight out of an arcade machine. I liked how smooth everything was and how well it all worked. It was a bit tough, but that's just my lack of skill — I could get used to it. The music also fits perfectly, like something from an old-school arcade 😅.

Overall, I enjoyed it — it's a well-polished game! :)

Developer(+1)

I am glad you liked it.

There is a lot to be liked about your entry as well.

Submitted(+1)

Really great space game! Very arcade like! Feels like something I'd see at a local arcade! The visuals were really nice as well!

(PS: If you're willing to I'd love it if you can rate and leave some feedback on my game! This is my first ever jam and I'd love to see where I can improve for the future!)

Developer

Thanks for playing and your feedback.

Yes, an arcade style was what I was aiming for, glad it worked out for you.

Going the test your entry as well.

Submitted(+1)

I really like the space theme in this one, the models are really nice and the special effects are really spectacular, I like it a lot, the movement based on the spin theme is good and overal works nicely, I rate graphics, control, fun, special fx, and music the most, all is cool, also, if you have some time, please, rate my game too, thanks!!!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to play the game and provide feedback.

Just checked and rated your game, that was really good!

Submitted(+1)

Amazing entry. Movement feels snappy and cool sfx. Reminded me of old arcade games.

Developer

Some arcade flair was exactly what I was aiming at, more specific the arcade classic "Gyruss" just with a more modern 3d'isch touch.

Thanks for playing and your time, I appreciate it.

Submitted(+1)

Wow! How memorable and nice game. I don't think i get the targeting, feels like i just think of dodging the bullet not caring about my bullet hit the boss. Maybe make the boss or noticeable part of it circle around the end of bullet trajectory like the classic Gyruss. Nice graphic btw!
Care to try my game to, thank you.

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play and leave some feedback! I appreciate this.

You are right, the targeting needs improvement, I have some plan for some additional homing missles to destroy the turrets but could not integrate that in time.

Thanks for your kind feedback.

Sweet space game, love the VFX, and the spin mechanics, I tried and tried, as soon as i figured out how to get the buffs it was a win for me. Super satisfying! Feel free to try ours if you like!

Developer(+1)

Wow! Congratulations! That is a nice score and I am very glad you enjoyed it so far!

Gonna try yours tonight!

Thanks a lot.

Submitted(+1)

A very attractive game. Very good work for a month of development. Congratulations. I hope you keep working on your project. Good luck in the Jam! Cheers!

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for playing and the kind feedback.

Yes I am still working on it and expanding it into a more whole game experience (not just bosses, but stages with waves of smaller fighters and so on. Also having a mobile/touch friendly version in the works.

Good luck to you too, gonna test your game tonight.

Very cool visuals brings me back to star fox days! Would be nice to have a bit more control over my aim i feel like my windows to hit the boss are super limited based on the camera movement. I like the use of spin though to turn a traditional star fox style game into focus on rotation around!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

There are plans for homing missiles and  targeting but I did not manage to add those before the deadline, sorry!

Somebody else already mentioned Star Fox, I guess I have to look that up.

Submitted(+1)

its a classic nintendo game with a simliar idea (the camera 'flys' for you while you focus on just moving around the screen)

Submitted(+1)

This looks fantastic! It's like star fox but my eyes don't hurt!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to give it a try.

I have not played Star Fox yet, but I'll check it out.

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Visually beautiful!

Did you do it in 3d?

please try my 2d duck game. Love to hear feedback.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing and your kind feedback.

The game itself is rendered in 3d but being a solo dev I did not manage to do the models myself within the month. It's an asset pack I linked in the section above.

I am going to check out your game next!

Submitted

Cool. Thanks

Submitted(+1)

Cool use of theme! It was a bit hard for me, but might be a skill issue lol.

Developer

Thanks for playing.

Yeah it can take a moment to get used to the perspective that is true. Well a jam is always a good place to put ideas to a test.

Keep on jamming!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun with tight controls. love the visuals as well.

Developer

I am glad you liked it!

Thanks for playing.

Submitted(+1)

I like the design of the ships plus the controls feel great which means you can drop right in with no resistance and play. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and the feedback, I am glad you liked it!

Going to rate your game as well!

Thanks!

Developer(+1)

Oh I already did!

That is a fun game you have there!

Submitted(+1)

Good work, fun to play ! The 3d assets are good

Developer(+1)

Thank you for taking the time to play it!

I really appreciate it and will return the favour!

Submitted(+1)

Really nice game, works slow on browswer and that killed my experience a bit, but I its a good idea and I liked it, has lot of potential.

Developer(+1)

I am sorry to hear that the web build did not gave you a smooth experience.

Since I put some time and effort into making sure the build would work on all machines I have access to, I am really interessted to investigate what could be the problem.

Do you mind my asking about your system specs/operating system and browser (incl. the version)?

I do use a lot of VFX so it can be quiet taxing on older hardware. How would you compare the experience to other 3d webgl games in the jam?

Thanks in advance!

Submitted

Oh lot of games were having problems with their web vertions, we had some problems too cause we were trading to use a shader, we had to remove it so the game could run smoothly, I have a potato pc Ryzen 5 5600g, the most common moder low spec pc nowadays.

Developer(+2)

A 5600G is not a bad system at all.

The game should run just fine with an 5600g. I did test everything on a mid/low-range laptop featuring an i5-12500H with its integrated GPU (which is a lot weaker then the 5600g) and it never dropped below 60FPS (Chrome and Firefox).

Probably there is something wrong with your browser settings? Hardware acceleration disabled or something like that?

You could try the official WebGL samples at https://webglsamples.org/ if they do not run at a solid 60 FPS there is something funky going on in your browser.

In case you are using Google Chrome you could check the GPU status by typing:

chrome://gpu

into the topbar. This will open a tab and there should be WebGL and WebGL2 shown as "Hardware accelerated" if it says "Software only" the GPU wont be used and everything will be calculated by the CPU and this is awfully slow.

Please let me know your findings.

Thanks in advance!

Submitted

Oh maybe is hardware acceleration I have it turned off cause causes problem to stream some on discord

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Yep! If you disabled hardware acceleration all WebGL games can not use the GPU and will be rendered in software only and that means they will be a slideshow at best.

Could you please re-enable hardware acceleration for a moment and retest the entries that ran slowly? You can disable it again afterwards if you like.

I build in a hidden performance overlay, you can enable and cycle through it by pressing CTRL-F10 and CTRL-F11

Some one send me a note that the game would run at 144 FPS on an Ryzen 5600H with integrated graphics which is the lower power mobile variant of your 5600G.

So you should be just fine.

Submitted(+1)

Yes I would certainly do that, there were a couple of games that I missed becuase of that, thank you a lot for pointing this out

Submitted(+1)

That was really good!

Developer

Thank you for playing and I am glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

That was fantastic. My heart was racing as I got closer to the high score.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it. Ever played the classic acrade "Gyruss"? You may like that too.

Submitted(+1)

I haven't heard the name before, but after looking it up, it looks familiar. I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

I felt like I was in Star Wars, really good. A spaceship game like a boss.

Developer

This was what I was aiming for. Glad it worked out!

Also had close fly-by scenes in mind along with destroyable turrets and Deathstar like tunnel scenes but had to drop it because of the jam deadline.

Thanks for playing and your feedback.
