I really liked the games atmosphere, it reminds me of of Hollow Knight and also Don't Starve Together. I forgot the needle mechanic so I failed killing the boss without taking damage so I tried like 4 times. And when I got it, I didn't get another ending. I will try again once more and write back

Wow, I love this art style, the game hint is cool too. 5/5

dude, I like to see games that was inspired by hollow knight :)

This game is so fun and so innovative and so epic and the atmosphere and combat and the boss, I really wanna see this game as a full big game it's gonna be so good :).

Honestly good job.

Beautiful presentation and great implementation, with a bit more content this could be a real gem!

Really nice work, definitely some Hollow Knight vibes. The boss fight was especially very well done. Great job!

Loved the game, loved the graphics

It gives a lot of hollow night vibes, with the healing and throwing needle sistem

And two endings? Amazing

I had my fun with the game and the art is pretty well done.

It’s a wonderfully complete action game with a top-down perspective. The music, in particular, was beautiful and very enjoyable.

I like the craft motif; the buttons being your health meter was a cute idea and I like that the sword is a single half of a pair of scissors. They only complaint I have is that the boss hitbox would be a little inconsistent sometimes and it feels like I was getting hit by it when I was outside of it's range but it wasn't unmanageable or anything.

I was serious about getting the secret ending so I spent countless times getting tagged and then ramming myself into the boss to restart without having to re-open the door and I think I actually teared up when the secret ending played.

Solid game, and that secret ending WOW! the lore is crazy!!!

wow great game i just love it

Excellent game. Just excellent.

I saw your note about scope, and I think that's my only real criticism. The levels with the Yarn felt a little to barren, and I would've liked more animation on the main character to add to the adorable factor. But I get it, it's a jam you can only do so much. The only thing I found myself wanting, was a life counter for the boss, it felt like it was taking a long time and I wasn't sure if I was getting close... even if the boss just starts to look more tattered.

Other than that. Beautiful game. The artwork, the music, the story of the yarn with the buttons to track health and the ball of yarn to track your "stamina"... all fit so nicely together. Great work. Good luck with the jam. One of my highest rated games so far for sure.

The gameplay & combat are excellent, attacks are fast and snappy, dodging feels good, having a ranged option is nice.

Visuals and atmosphere are lovely as well.

Sound design is good.

The boss fight was awesome, that’s the most fun I’ve had in game so far for this jam! Great job to the encounter designer!

The game is clearly inspired heavily by Hollow Knight. There’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from good games; however, I think this has to be the first jam game I’ve seen where the level of imitation going on is almost… cheap-feeling. The attack timing, animation, and sound are almost identical to HK. So is the mana/health regen system, plus the display is almost identical. The boss death particles are basically the same as well.

All in all this is a really strong effort that I had a blast playing. I just would’ve liked to see some more originality.

I agree, the game turned out a bit too similar to Hollow Knight. I replayed it recently and still finishing the pantheons, it's basically hijacked my brain and I can't get inspired by anything else. Still, it was fun to create something similar to prove that I can. I was thinking that the gameplay of Hollow Knight is pretty simple, and wouldn't take a lot of time to implement, so I wanted to try it.

So far coming up with original ideas for a game is something that I'm struggling the most. I should definitely try to be more creative and experimental in my next jams.

I know exactly what you mean. As a rule I try not to work on game concept that’s directly inspired by anything I just played for that reason. Recently I wanted to make a platformer and played Celeste for inspiration, found myself making Celeste. So I can definitely relate.

As an exercise in making an HK-style combat loop I think this game is a huge success, seriously. Good luck in your future efforts!

Very solid game, reminds me of Hollow Knight quite a bit. The sounds effects added a lot to the atmosphere and attacking was satisfying/juicy, so easy 5 stars on audio! Although, the boss fight was pretty rough. It seems like it attacks out of nowhere, which isn't fair for the player. I would add indicators for when it's about to attack and what attack it's going to. Aside from that, this is a very well done submission!

Excellent dark atmosphere backed by great sound! Great game!

Thought I would roll the ball, but actually got some interesting hollow-k vibes. Pretty music and fights, good job it is:)

I really enjoyed this, the inspiration from Hollow Knight in the casting/healing/atmosphere is evident, but it’s well implemented and fits well in your game.

So I made the numerous attempts to clear the final boss without getting hit and made it to the secret ending, and I’ve got to say, INCREDIBLE! Definitely worth the effort for anyone else who comes across this comment.

Some thoughts I had:

  • the difficulty jump to the boss from the little eye creatures was pretty dramatic. It would have been amazing if the left and right paths had a simple enemy that introduced one of the three boss attacks as a learning tool (but it’s a jam I get it)

  • If you could implement a retry button for the boss that would be amazing - for someone trying to get the no-hit run it was tedious to have to allow the boss to kill me each time I got hit since that was the fastest way to reset.

I really enjoyed your game, excellent work!

Thanks, glad you liked the ending. Agree with the critique, something like this was planned it the initial concept, but we had to cut the scope quite a lot. There should have been a mini boss that you had to beat to access each of the thread balls.

The fastest way to reset is actually to just exit to a main menu, and start the game again. The progress will be saved.  This is not obvious though and a respawn button would take literally a minute to implement, so we definitely should have thought about this.

Definitely see Hollow Knight inspiration in here. Interesting idea. I had a hard time finding time healing against the boss. He's definitely really tough! Good work on this project. I think you could lighten the environment up some to make it a bit easier to see the wonderful art.

I was half convinved that the boss was invincible! took me like 7 tries! and then i learned there was a secret ending! great game! amazing jam submission, even though i dont think ill be good enough to get the secret ending!
