I really see a lot of potential in this game, I liked the concept and the RTS building style of the game. I feel it was a bit slow for a game jam and some of the features like deselecting orders and that kind of stuff were a bit confusing at first. Also in my first attempt the workers stopped working after collecting some stone (and I had ordered to chop some trees) Hope you can improve that aspects, great game anyway!! Good job :)
The tutorial for the game is done pretty well, showing off the basic rules and player abilities in a digestible step-by-step manner. It's just a shame that it somehow soft locked when explaining the ability to place down chests from the wood I harvested.
For what I did experience, though, the major gripe I had was the placing feature not registering when dragging it around. When placing chests, doing so one by one was functionally fine with the units correctly placing them. When I drag the RMB to place multiple chests in a line, the units place the first chest, but then nothin else until I click on the remaining slots again. This doesn't feel like it's supposed to work this way, with the buildings being highlighted.
Overall, this is a nice foundation for a potential spin on a RTS game, but there are several quirks that don't work intuitively that would need ironing out before expansion.
Very ambitious for a game jam game. I had some difficulties commanding the people after I had ordered them to gather materials and dismantle/mantle walls at the same time...I think in the end they went on a union strike
Also when making the walls I had no idea about the logic of door or going through the walls cuz this this our fort, so I may have made the furnace unaccusable. Oops. Nevertheless neat jam game!
Seems like a pretty nice start to a RTS. The collecting and building worked quite well but I couldn't figure out how to get them to put the rocks into the smelter They did it a couple times, but mostly they were filling storage. I tried highlighting the smelter and clicking on it a bunch, but it mostly didn't work. Any tips?
Yeah sorry about that. It is a hurried system. Basically the smelter and resources are in the same list meaning if you select the smelter after the resources, the workers will prioritize collecting resource as it is lower in the list. I know it is a bad way to do it but as I see it I'm glad it at least works.. somehow..
It took me a while to learn how to undo actions, and overall the game could use a little more explanation. But overall I liked it! Good job!
Such a nice gameplay mechanic, and I have the ability to control the volume of the game also, Thanks for the experience
Nice game :)
I accidently made my 2 guys tear down the entire forest and they didnt want to do anything else until they were done 😭
had to restart, really like this one crazy you managed to make this in a week theres a lot of stuff for a jam game
great job!
Thanks for playing it! With all the feedback I got over this week I now realize that I should have paid much more attention to when people could get accidently stuck because they could do something the tutorial didn't ask for and not now how to undo it yet. Basically I some mechanics should have been explained sooner than others. But thanks so much for trying it and liking it :)
Great little RTS game. I like that we can hold down the mouse button to drag across walls around the base. It has Warcraft I vibes. Nice music too. Also, didn't know how many resources I had at all times. Enjoyed your game entry!
I really enjoyed the game. You did a lot in 7 days. The first time I couldn't defend myself against the enemies because it wasn't very clear where they were going to come from and I put the walls and ballistas wrong. I decided to try a second time, but already ignoring the tutorial because I already knew how to collect materials and what to build. But after that, I ran into the problem that I was hung up on the hint on how to deselect stones and there was no way I could get rid of it. I didn't have any stones selected, but the hint wouldn't go away. I tried selecting them first and then deselecting them, but that didn't work either. In the end, I didn't fulfill the requirement and I didn't get access to the new structures.
Sorry about that. The tutorial is a mess as it simply saves the amount of selected stones at the end of previous step and looks for lesser number afterwards meaning if you had no selected stone it can softlock because it looks for negative amount. I did not realize that before now so I am truly sorry for that but also thanks for giving my game a try.
I really like the game anyway!
The base-building and defense mechanics are intriguing, though the game could benefit from smoother controls and clearer instructions. The ability to deconstruct buildings is a great feature but seems to be underutilized. Overall, a solid concept with room for improvement in polish and user experience.
Also try our game! thx in advance
Thanks for playing! Already went and rated your game back and left a comment there (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
It was a bit confusing but still a nice game
i was so glad when i saw there was a download available for Mac, but the downloaded folder did not contain an app, i think something went wrong with the build… rated based on screenshots and comments :)
Sorry about that. I do have both windows and linux so I tested those out, but I don't have mac and couldn't test it out. And as I don't even understand how macs work I simply trusted unity to build it correctly.
Also I do understand how big an inconvenience it is but there is something I would guess to be a binary file called gamejam in the MacOS folder; so if you had time I would love for you to be able to try my game out. But again if you did not want to go around snooping in folders I would totally understand that.
typically, a Mac app is an application containing all the resources, like you can see in the top folder in the screenshot. I did find your file “gamejam” but with 34KB in size i doubt it is even large enough to be an app, i could open it in a text editor but thats about all i could do with it =>
I see. Thanks for taking your time to try it out again and again I am sorry for the inconvenience.
The controls are a bit confusing, but a decent game nontheless.
As you can see from mine i really like base defence games! And i loved the building idea . Only not being able to delete buildings was annoying for gameplay. But for 7 days, thats really nice work!
Thanks for playing my game. I don't know whether you have finished the tutorial but you can "delete" (deconstruct) buildings by selecting them while holding control. Though I have probably put that too far in the tutorial as most people seem to not get far enough to learn about that mechanic.
Thanks for reply! I think i kept pressing the wrong button... I will give it another try now ☺
I liked the building aspect of the game but its is really slow i feel like some boost will help it greatly but over all really nice game!
Accidentally built 25 chests and there was no way to undo. I just had to wait forever for them to build it before I could do anything else. The building mechanic needs more work it seems.
Then the builders got stuck on the rocks and no longer moved.
You made a good amount of content, but for a gamejam, its really important that the core mechanics are as polished and user-friendly as possible. The tutorial was the best part.
The only advice I can give, is to keep making games, keep coding.
its not polished otherwise its a damn nice game i liked it
Thanks! It is true that there are some bugs that I would have liked to get rid of but there just wasn't enough time for that. But thanks for playing.
It's an impressive RTS game, and being able to create it in just seven days is really amazing.
Thanks.. Although I actually missed the first two days so it was actually only in five days.
Nice little RTS / Base defence game! Good job, especially for 7 days.
Feedback:
- I think making it so that you can select AND build with LMB and cancel actions with RMB would be more intuitive. I found myself being a bit annoyed that I had to reach for the ESC button while I was just chill playing the game with the mouse.
- Couldn't figure out how to delete buildings, if it is possible at all?
Thank you for the feedback. I didn't really think about my input choices and it is true it should at least have been possible to cancel build mode by pressing the building buttons or other method so that it could be played with only mouse which was kind of the focus sorry about that. And you can "delete" buildings by selecting them while holding down left control which works for blueprints as well. You will get the resources spent on those buildings back but the workers need to deconstruct it.
