Spooky atmosphere, good visuals (though the VHS filter is a bit too much after a while) and great sound design. The voice lines are also a nice touch.

Sadly I could not really progress since most interaction E's didn't do anything. As others mentioned, the collisions are a bit off as well.

Other than that, this has a lot of potential!

Great game, love the vibe and the voice acting

I found it a bit difficult to see the doors that could be opened. I went to a marker but didn't know what to do after that because I couldn't see the door beside me!

Nice job by everybody involved!

Developer

thankyou so much for playing, we'd more on these issues post jam and fix them :)

This is one of my top ones but… you know this one tears me apart for one really sad reason: I just couldn’t really enjoy all of it. It’s like I found a fun-sized Snickers on a cupboard when I was super hungry, to find out it was molten a bit.

I kept on going as far as I can go. Explored every little place, pressed E like a cookie clicker on everything, had SUCH AN AMAZING first impression that I was like: ok, this is it. This is the one.

…but I don’t know if I’m way too dumb, missed something, but there were a lot of doors I couldn’t open. I clipped through a wall and nothing happened. The controls were fine at first when I was making progress… until I kept backtracking and they grew ever so floaty and mushy. I had to reaaaally wiggle my way through portals to fit, and sometimes doors were stuck making glitchy flickers that I thought were part of the game. Don’t know, probably not?

The chromatic aberration with scanline shader (aka, the VHS filter) was awesome until I started getting a little headache with the weird movement. Sometimes it was soo dark I couldn’t even tell where I was. The map, too. I loved that it had a layout that was challenging and I had to remember where I was because I needed to know where I wasn’t.

The sound acting was… how did you even manage to get it to sound this good in so little time?

I went as far as I could. I tried to eat the Snickers bar down to the last bit… but I couldn’t finish it and my head hurts a bit.

Credit where credit’s due: this is probably one of the best of the jam, hands down. You deserve the spotlight. It’s just that daaaaamn I wish I could’ve just gone a bit more. But I spent a bit more than an hour. This is one of the ones that need a full release, with the filter/controls/gameplay smol little tweaks, and there you go. A banger.

Sidenote:

I have some pretty spicy opinions on jumpscares. I don’t like them at all in games. I find them a cheap, overused resource that makes an otherwise fine game terrible, like a mould on a piece of bread. However… your game’s ones aren’t cheap jumpscares. I do prefer these, more tasteful ones than overusing it to replace a better plot. You have a plot. You have the right to use them because they’re done tastefully. This is something that’s more personal so it didn’t really tip the scale for me.

this review will always have a special place in our heart :) its as deep and meaningful for us as your game, we discussed about it yesterday and it's feedback like like these that make us want to keep coming back to jams, we promise to fix a lot of issues post jam and let you have your full sized snicker bar (and perhaps a much bigger bar ;))

we're grateful for you playing this game, means a lot to us  🛐

Nice horror game! Didn't expect to get a jumpscare in the first little house when you arrive with your car 😅My only issue I found is that the walls have 100% of friction, making it super hard to navigate without getting stuck on any collision.  The voicelines were funny and a very nice touch. Good job on the game jam 👏!!

*edit: Forgot to tell, but there's a funny bug where you can interact with the TV from another room by clicking on "E" on the toilet 😂

thanks for playing :D

we're deciding to work in this game post jam and fix a lot of these issues (:

Very Cool!

Developer

thanks :D

Decent horror game, but my player would frequently get stuck on objects. It got annoying pretty quickly.

Developer

we'll be working to fix the controller post jam :) ty for playing

Submitted(+1)

Not a bad game but the controls were very annoying. Always getting stuck mid air by objects. Most probably you used a rigidbody. I'd suggest you to use Unity's implemented Character Controller, for this type of fame would make your life a lot easier. Most of the times, the rigidbody is used for physics type of games.

PS: I can move the camera during cutscenes

Hope that you'll also try mine :) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690

Developer(+1)

you debugged it correctly haha, we will work post jam to fix the controller :D tysm for playing, onto your game next!

Please allow changing the window size. I can't play it on my ultrawide monitor :(

Developer

Do you get black bars on both sides? :(

The visuals and atmosphere really stand out in this game! The old-school VHS filter adds a nostalgic horror vibe, and the sound design complements it perfectly. I loved exploring the environment but getting stuck on walls could interrupt the flow. Overall, you’ve nailed the horror feel, and I can definitely see this evolving into something even bigger with a few tweaks. Great job!

Developer

tysm for playing and yeah we'll post a fix to the collider issue post jam :D

Submitted(+1)

The amount of love put to visuals and audio is insane! You guys should totally work on an indie title. Agree that the effects could have been more subtle and that controller needs some love too. Other than that pretty solid!
I found two easter eggs too, won't spoil it here  🤭

Developer

Thank you so much! And thanks a lot for playing <3

Developer

tysm for playng :D and yeahhh shhhh  🤫😉

A really spooky atmosphere! The old digital camera works well with horror, but I would've toned it down just a little bit. The date being mentioned in Finnish while all the characters spoke English with an Indian(?) accent was funny to me, and slightly immersion breaking. Really well done with the horror mood though!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Thanks a lot for playing our game and for your feedback! If I’m not wrong, the Finnish date format (Date-Month-Year) is similar to the Indian date format. Glad you found the dialogue delivery funny, we really tried to have fun with it! :D

Submitted

The camera said "Tammi", referring to "Tammikuu" which means January in Finnish! :D

Developer(+2)

No way! That is very weird, we don’t even know a word of Finnish. Pretty sure we just used “Jan 01, 1987” as the date. If it was “Tammi” on your playthrough, I don’t even know what could’ve caused it because none of us have had the slightest notion of translating to Finnish! xD

Developer

Yeah agree w Ashay, not sure abt "Tammi" ref either :3 Def not intended.. still thanks for playing :D

This game made me so scared. Amazing project and impresif that you could make this in only 7 days.

Developer

ty.. it was def a crunch :D

Submitted(+1)

I enjoy the story set up it gets hard to know where I need to go next on certain points, I wish the character will write on a diary or something saying "I should investigate X" because I was trying to follow the sound cues but after turning the tv off wasn´t sure where I needed to go next.

I love the voice acting and I felt the game had a unique art style, is just a shame the VHS effect was so strong I would have love to see more of the world without it.

Just rated your game hope you can rate mine too :)

Developer

The diary was something that we indeed looked into.. but were not able to implement to implement due to time constrains.. we'll be pushing a fix post jam that addresses this issue and also make the the VHS effects subtle but still apparent :D We had a lot of fun recording the dialogs.. tysm for playing!!

Developer

Taking a look at your game next!

Developer(+1)

I see you have a windows build.. I sadly have mac :( I'll the other devs to play tho!

Submitted(+1)

nice i liked the idea and the visual effects on the camera but i faced a problem i couldnt complete the story i went to the guitar room and didnt know what to do anyway still impresive in 7 days

dont forget to try my game :D

Developer(+1)

Great that you liked the visuals. You have to complete any task ( guitar included ) by interacting with it ( pressing E ), and then look for next task indication marker. Gonna try ur game too this weekend.

Developer

thanks for playing :D

Cool atmosphere, really well done! To improve it I don't think it should stop you in place just to listen to the dialogue. It's interesting and really well done, but not sure it's the best to create a jail around the player to listen to it. It sounds interesting enough that I could listen to it while still moving around. Being in a jail while listening to it felt like it lessened its impact to me actually. Other than that I think you did a great job on this game!

Developer

I'd agree :)
