It lacks some polish but otherwise it’s very good and long enough! We also made a game about a child and its fear, you should check it out :3
Nice job on the game! I do get a strange audio issue unless I change my audio device. I am curious, did you use a variant of Unity 2022.3.x to make this? Or did you use a different Unity version?
Thanks! Interestinggg, what's the issue specifically? By chance, is it crackling audio?
Yep 2022.3.44f1. Using FMOD for our audio though.
In the past couple days I've learnt a lot about the difficulties of using FMOD for WebGL builds.
I may be able to make some changes to rectify the problem (if it is indeed the crackling issue) in an updated build coming after the rating period is over.
Thanks for letting us know!
Yes it's crackling audio but it's only on specific USB audio interface, if I change to regular stock audio hardware there's no crackling at all. I think 2022.3.x games have some issue with certain USB audio interfaces. On an early version of 2022.3.x game I saw in this jam using 2022.3.9, that issue was even affecting a Desktop build (but still only on the USB audio interface, not when using stock audio for me). In all cases, most players won't notice this because I don't get the issue with stock audio device (though it's possible a very small amount of players may get this crackling or other audio issues, even on a stock audio device, but I don't know). I think it's something that might only be affecting these 2022.3.x Unity versions from what I am noticing, since I don't get this issue on my own game for example, or on most Unity games in this jam.
It is possible it has to do with using FMOD in some way rather than the Unity version. Though I think Unity is internally using FMOD anyway. So I suspect it may be the Unity version, though I'm not 100% sure.
oh boy, it's so hard to pinpoint where the problem may be... haha.
I'm also using a USB audio interface but I have no issues.
I have a different problem though, I get extremely crackly audio when using Chrome (this happens with any WebGL build on itch.io) but my audio is completely fine in Firefox...
I know for sure FMOD and WebGL don't like to play nice and take a little more setup that I was unaware of when creating the original build that's currently up for Gustavo's Nightmare. I have Unity audio disabled in engine so I'm assuming it shouldn't have to do w/ Unity but I wouldn't completely rule it out yet...
This is all still a bit of a knowledge gap for me but I'm experimenting with different build settings and scouring forums to try and find some answers haha wish me luck!!
Holy moly! This was a perfect fit. At first I was like "what is this? Just a clean up simulator?" then the night hit. haha. This was a perfect match in all the categories. It felt a bit like a mini game instead of a full game - but I think its because it only has one objective, and thats fine, but I loved the character and the art. Though it would be cool to have a game about a delusional kid or something and have a few minigames in it like this one that need to be completed to progress the story.
If I had to give notes Id say the enemies start moving a bit early because the screen is covered with the bear face - but honestly this is actually cool because you get used to it after the first or second night time.
Great job, seriously great fit.
Glad you enjoyed :D
Thanks for the feedback!
Love the game and genius concept. Love the cartoony artstye, reminds me of an old cartoon show.
Love the unique strategies!
Glad you enjoyed the direction of artstyle. Thanks for playing!
Hahaha holy moly, I got REALLY scared on the first night! This is good fun and fits the theme very well :D
Thanks for playing! :D
Fun game! It felt like you were going for a horror themed game and I think that some audio would've really helped with that. However overall a very good idea, and it fit the theme perfectly. (Edit: I had my browser muted and I didn't realize, the audio is fine!)
Oh no, sounds like something went wrong! We have completely custom audio in our game from our sound designer/composer. Maybe double check your computer’s sound settings or try another browser?
Either way, thanks for playing!
Sorry I am an idiot, I tried to edit all these comments, I had my browser muted and I didn't realize, the audio on this game is perfectly fine! Apologies.
No need to apologize!
No worries at all :)
Fun game of having to put away the items!!! I did get jump scared the first time XD
hahaha it gets everyone the first time!
Thanks for playing :D
Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at it again in the future heres the vod timestamped to your game
Thanks for checking it out on stream!
Really creative concept, it was I lot of fun to play! I would suggest adding a mechanic to lock and unlock the box though because I felt like I didnt have time to put all the toys in the box before they came alive again, but otherwise you all did a great job!
Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! :D
Funnily enough that was always the plan, just didn't get that feature over the line in time.
We will have it in the post-jam build :)
This was really fun concept! i had a blast playing it! hope to see more levels soon!
Thanks for taking the time to check it out!
I had a lot of fun with this one! Very interested to see the direction you take it in, as I liked the kiting aspect in the current game even if it wasn't quite what you intended, but the ideas you shared sounded fun as well.
Thanks for sharing with my stream! Here's the VOD of your game: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2253652240?t=01h27m59s
Thanks for playing it on stream!
Was great to see your impressions live :D
I had a little bit of difficulty with the progression of the game.. Other than that, I liked how cute the art was, and I genuinely was scared when the first bear appeared XD the change in the music was really good as well.
ahaha that bear gets everyone the first time!
Thanks for playing :D
The main idea for the video game in the JAM is really cool; there’s a genuine sense of suspense as the time approaches when the toys come to life and you have to run for your life. The animation of the bear and the sound are great for enhancing that suspense!
Thanks! We're happy with how that transition turned out.
Thanks for checking it out :D
The concept is really interesting; this is great work for a jam especially since it's your first too.
Thanks for checking it out!
I enjoy the concept. Its like kiting the adds in an mmo lol. very cool
haha true! In the end it is pretty much a test of your kiting skills. Thanks for playing :D
The music in this one really caught me off gaurd, nice work with that! The chase sections were pretty fun, I like how you increased the players move speed to make it feel more frantic. I also appreciate the level designs forcing you into corners, or making the toys chase you to the toybox so they can all be collected quickly. That added a lot of variety to the game! All in all a short and sweet game, great job!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to see you appreciate a lot of the details and design choices :D
Such a clever and unique idea. You really nailed both the "calm" and the "storm" and did it in a highly original way. I wish maybe there was a high score system or someway to continue pushing the player to go farther and farther into the game. This is already a tremendous job well done for only 1 week!
Thanks for playing and taking the time to leave feedback! Cheers :D
Loved the game, the transition to the attack state is perfectly done!
Glad you enjoyed! Happy with how that turned out :D
Funny and interesting! The toys could be more scary during the night
Glad you enjoyed! We had scary versions of the toys to swap to at night but that feature got de-prioritized so we could get the project submitted in time. Thanks for playing! :D
