A man with his tall black hat plays the story of his life. I liked the tale of this game. Your storytelling got me dragged into the world. The dialogs were entertaining to read. The 2D characters and 3D environment contrary had an impact as one positive style. The puzzles were not that hard to crack, but it was ok for the jam. The only frustration I felt was the long walking time when I wanted to run fast. But overall I enjoyed your game! Congratulations!

In what way does your game fit the theme?
You use a clock to rewind time and solves puzzles in different eras of time.
Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Most of the code was written from scratch by me and another person and all images/models are drawn from me and another person. Almost all sounds are free to use from freesounds but the voices are from me :).
PS: when it sais "letter on the wall" we mean "number on the wall", sorry :/

Amazing game! Really enjoy solving all the riddles through the timeline. And the graphic style is lovely.
Very clever puzzle design, and the story is great!
We're using the same 2d pixel art character in 3d environment in our commercial game (Not the one in this Jam. It's call Shikon-X, if you're interested https://store.steampowered.com/app/1298270/ShikonX_Astro_Defense_Fortress/ )
Good job! Congratulations! You deserve more ratings
Thanks for playing our game, and finally someone likes our gameplay concept hehe 🙂 Most people HATED that you had to go to different timelines to solve the riddles since it made everything so much harder. Also I checked out your steam page, I'm pretty amazed that you've been able to create that with friends or co-workers or whoever you work with 🙂. The graphics and effects are stunning, hopefully you get some media attention towards that game
I don't know... I loved the concept of travel through time since Day Of The Tentacle. Looks like people gets uncomfortable when they encounter a real challenge. Our last jam was a graphic adventure, and had to tweak lots of things that for as were obvious, cause most people lack the ability to think more than just "push that button" "open that door"
Anyway. Glad you like ours, and that you played my jam game!
Cool artstyle and a really neat way to use the rewind mechanic in a very original way. The characters and environments in every time are really well done and the 2D in 3D style it's something I like to see. Good job!
This was an excellent game, great stabilization and fun story, a lot of people have touched on the pain points already so ill try and just keep to my main pain point which was the math problem(ill just put "roffe" here lol), I think if there was just away to recall what you have already heard people say like the equations that would have helped a lot. overall it was and amazing game.
Thanks for playing our game and congratioulations on finishing it! Thanks for your feedback, we would also think a recall ability would be benefital, but there is actually a "speedrun" strat, if you go back to the first time (the ? time) and then to the time you want you'll be teleported back to the house, it was found by one of our developer's brother hehe.
Nice game, I like the time machines concept.. I did some of the puzzles but not all.. I was stuck in 1930.. I think I will finish later. I notice how the tree change size in every timeline...
You can improve : speaking sound it is a little repetitive.. maybe put more "no sense" voices, also a nice background music that can change in every timeline.
Good Job..
I thought this game was super awesome! mixing 2D and 3D art was so cool! I also loved how easy and seamless it was to transition between times. I would LOVE to see a bigger version with more story and puzzles! I thought the puzzles were fantastic, but did feel a little lost at what to do at times. Giving the player a little bit more of a hint at what to do could be nice in parts. Also, I know this was already mentioned but the player could move a bit faster. Overall, this has been one of my favorites so far! (roffe)
Hey colter thanks a lot for playing and finishing our game, you're now the 6th person to ever finish it, congratioulations! We're really happy you enjoyed the game and we agree with ur feedback, although we wanted the game to be a bit of a challenge since it's so short hehe. Anyways we really hoped we could've polished it up more but time management is hard! Thanks a lot again, happy jamming.
I really enjoyed the art style. Also, I thought puzzle design was clever, but got stuck for a while on the equation. I love the time baby!
In terms of constructive feedback, I think there was a bit of rough English translation here and there. Also, the least "fun" part of the game is walking from place to place and there is quite a bit of that in between puzzles (which are the highlight)
Regardless, I really enjoyed the time I spent with this game.
Awesome! I loved the time shifts and how the aesthetic changed. The menu bomb sound was a bit loud for me. I liked the male and female "huhs" in different pitches, that was unexpected and funny. My movements got stuck on some ledges, but jumping usually resolved it. Great game!
Wow, what a good story and characters! It all flowed pretty well except for when going from one place to next and talking for too long. I think adding nice little music in the background can help as well as increasing character speed, and with the text where it starts typing on the first line then jumps to the next because the words too big to fit on it, try adding "\n" for line breaks so it automatically starts the next line. Great story and it was a nice and weird change with the time baby! A lot of decent stuff done in a week!
I really liked the game story, but the back and forth you have to do in order to experience it is very annoying, i wish the player was a bit faster... (And the text, too)
Also, the puzzles aren't the best: you have to memorize pretty much everthing you see, in order to find the solution, because if you don't it's more back and forth... Some sort of "hint system" it would have been great... (Maybe talking to the wise man after you completed the first puzzle??)
And let's not talk about that equation: i spent 2+ hours of (hand made) calculation and trial and error, only to find out later that the "letter" that i need in order to resolve was... well, i don't want to spoil the solution to the other people that will play this game (I've already given a BIG hint, for that matter...), but i'll say that i've tried every possible letter that there is... at some poin i even tought that you had done the calculation wrong.... now, my brain is tired... 🥵
Since you've shared yor ratings, i wanted to try to do the same, i usually don't do that because i don't really like doing that, but for this time i will make an exception:
- Game Design 3/5: Overall a well around designed experience...
- Fun 2/5: Like i said, gameplay too slow, and too much back and forth made the experiece quite annoying
- Innovation 3/5: A guy travels back in time to save the world. not very innovative (thematically and not)... It's not 2/5 only because of the cool story
- Theme 4/5: It fits, but it dosen't stand out enough to recive a 5 star rating
- Graphics 4/5: i personally don't like the aestethic of the game (it feels like it made some collision junky), but i certainly see the appeal of the art style...
- Audio 2/5: There are some sfx in the game, but other than that...
PS. I'm sure you already know that, but you know that leaving out a category it's like not voting for that category, and not like giving it a 0/5, right?? (I'm referring to your vote of my game: I'm writing it here because i feel like is more appropriate to write it here)
Thanks for trying it out! We understand that it has quite a jump in difficulty from the first quest to the second with the passwords and such, we intended to implement more quests (about 3-4) before you even got to the keypad, which at that point you would naturally memorize things, so we understand your frustration (a lot of the playtesters were also frustrated with this, but yknow time constraints :d)
Also sorry about the "letter", we're not native speakers so there's a lot of errors in the text, but it's okay if you didn't finish it, it's a brutually hard game and most people wont complete it just because we couldn't implement the "easier" quests
I completly agree with your scores though! I would've given it the same, the graphics are kinda fun but the actual gameplay is very slow, repetitive and grindy. We'll try and make our scope a bit lesser for our upcoming titles.
Thanks for taking your time to write this detailed review, we appreciate it a lot
But i did, in fact, finish it... 😶
Btw, i know my review make it feels like i didn't enjoyed the game at all, but that's not the case at all... Execpt for the grind and stuff i liked the game a lot, especially the story!!!
Also, don't worry about the letter error or the native speaking problem (I'm also a non native speaker) too much, when i writed the comment i was frustrated so maybe i've kinda exagerated
The only thing that i want to point out, because i feel i haven't espressed well enough, is that the equation one isn't the only one puzzle that suffers from trial and error/memorization, in fact i think every puzzle suffers from trial and error, but i think the ploblem relies in the way the problem they're presented to the player, which you already ardressed in your answer
Thank you for taking the time to read my big chunk of text, and, of course, for partecipating in this jam!!! 😃
I realy enjoyed your game I like the way you implement the theme.
You could say the game is a little roffe around the edges, but I enjoyed it. I like the mix between 2D and 3D, though I wish I had a sprint button to travel just a bit faster between the cabins. The humour within the scripts was nice. Not to spoil for others but it would be great to have different options at the end. Well done overall!
Congratulations on finishing the game! And thanks for the feedback, we never thought of adding sprinting during playtesting but we've had some comments about people finding it annoying to walk around, which is understandable. We planned on adding more puzzles and quests to complete but unfortunately life got in the way, we're glad you enjoyed it though (also multiple endings was planned but had to be scrapped.... one of them included blixten the cat :eyes:)
I remember playing your seal game yesterday, not sure if I remembered to comment on it or not but was pretty good, just the lighting that was too dark
Wow, this game is great, one of my favorites from the jam. The artstyle is amazing, I love the mixture of 3D and 2D. The idea of time-changing is great, and the attention to detail is amazing. Even the trees grow in later timelines! The puzzles are also absolutely great, I loved all of them, though the stuff with the code was a little too convoluted. And there was a great amount of variety, like the time-baby puzzle - absolutely not needed, but a nice addition to change up the gameplay. The story also was interesting, well at least in combination with the puzzles and the different characters. Sadly it didn't really make sense at the end, but I suppose you didn't have time to finish it properly. Also, there are some minor errors in the texts.
However, overall, I really enjoyed this game. Well done!
Edit: "roffe"
I am playing your game right now and it is super fun, but I can't progress at the code. Would you mind giving it to me? I think I found out x and y but it still says wrong code. I'll edit this comment and give you a real review, but I would really like to finish it first.
Edit: made another comment.
Yes, I saw it. You can delete :)
But also, in the equation -------, it doesn't make sense for me that ------, because the smith tells you he doesn't remember the last "letter", and as letter, I thought he maybe meant y, not the number from the wall. Maybe you should clarify that :)
Edit: deleted the equation parts.
Nice game! It was a little tedious walking back and forward and the math codes were a little confusing, but overall it was fun! Good game! "roffe"
Thanks for playing our game, impressive that you acutally completed it, none of our playtesters managed to figure all the puzzles out, codus for that! I tried your game but I can't really figure out how the rewind mechanic works, mind explaining how I can rewind my towers when they break? Nice concept though, haven't seen a tower defense game yet
Thanks for checking my game out. Move the character up to a turret when it powers down, and then press E to rewind it. I tried to explain it on the first level, but I definitely could've made it clearer. With your game I had the numbers at the end but had to trial and error it cause I wasn't sure the order. Once I got the codes it made sense looking back. As difficult as it was, solving it made me feel good about figuring it out lol.
Ah I see! I didn't even see you had a playable character, interesting
Sorry that you had to trial and error, but thanks for mentioning about how you felt once you did! We designed the game so that players would feel "smart" after completing the puzzles, exactly the type of response we were looking for
