In what way does your game fit the theme?
It rewinds time to 1930s where you play as a mouse fighting its way to victory.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Everything is self made, music is made by an amazing teammate/music producer.

Love the music but I think the sound design has a lot of room for improvement beside some tweaks for camera offset and more particle effects!

Good job.

I think more sounds are needed to give you information about the game. When you hit, when they hit you... Taking away that, good game.

Nice music! :)

I think you really did a great job in providing the atmosphere you want to see in such a game, being the music or the cute drawn graphics. Unfortunately though, I couldn't finish your game as it's just waayyy to hard (at least for a normal player like me). At some points it just really annoyed me, like: WHY ARE THERE 10 MILLION ENEMIES IN FRONT OF ME, AS WELL AS BEHIND ME. That is not necessarily a bad thing, and I'm sure there are players who really like that idea, but for me personally, it's just too unpredictable. Nonetheless, you really did a great job with this one, it fits the theme very well and looks just amazing, so: good job and keep it up!

Developer

Thank you very much. Lack of time didnt let me playtest or i would have fixed the ammount of enemies spawned. I will fix that in the later update though. Thanks again for such great comment.

Ok, As someone who beated games like Cuphead or Spelunky with 100% achievements, I love this kind of challenges. Your game is up to the task. Reeeeally hard, sometimes even unfair, but after some practice I manage to reach the boss second phase. Problem here is... he NEVER dies. I mean, I been shooting at him for 2 completely song loops, and the Son of... keeps attacking with the roots. i even try to shoot the roots, nothing happens, try to go to the upper platforms, instantly died. I was for over a complete hour trying to beat him, but no luck. Even manage to reach him with 3 lives! But in vain.
Apart from this, you made a GREAT work. Of course, always room for improvements (as other comments mention) but for a week game I think your game is one of the best in the jam.
The Art is AMAZING, the controls respond very accurate. I'm not completely ok with the mouse aiming, at least for this game, but maybe you manage to make it work in a fun way after the jam ends.

Very good job! Congratulations!

Please check mine if you can 😁

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much. You were the first person telling me how far you got. I didnt implement enemy feedback which would have helped quite a lot. Id make it so much better for future and will add controller support which will feel much better than the current mouse. Thanks again i appreciate you!

This game was amazing! I wasn't even able to get past the first level though...

Nice graphics, the game is quite hard to play .. the skeletron head always kill me. Some SFX could give a little more atmosphere.

Good Job.

My game is a casual game if you wanna rate is https://misterm.itch.io/mixtape-match , Thanks

Thanks my friend. I spent 100 hours on this project in one week. Luckily i achieved something people love. Thanks for your comment. I will be adding sfx for next update.

The take on the theme is pretty interesting. As some others have said, some sound effects would be nice. I don't think the health rewinding was working for me when I pressed Q, but idk if I just didn't get how it worked haha. The music is really good (a small change would be to not make it restart every time the screen changes). The game is pretty hard and needs some polishing but with some additions like sound effects, particles etc it could look pretty good!

Developer

Thank you ! I am curious as to how the audio sounded as it was supposed to restart any time you play and also it should change to boss fight music whenever you reach the boss. If possible send me a sample in discord and i will definitely check it out and fix it. Thank you very much !

Submitted(+1)

Oh this was just happening in the menu - when I went to options the music restarted. Within the game itself it was all normal :D

Developer

Oh thank you. I will definitely look into it

Submitted(+1)

Interesting little game, but I feel like you could have expanded on the theme a bit more and movement and shooting felt a little rough. Otherwise goodjob

Developer

Thank you, I will make it much more better during the post jam development and will try to keep the theme as it seems a good mechanic to have.

I mean, the style both visuals and music are great, but the inspiration to Cuphead it's a bit too evident, to the point it more like a ripoff than an simple inspiration.
Some sound effect would have really improved the experience, and i fell like you should be able to shoot behind you just pointing there with the mouse. Also, i feel like the controls could be refined a bit

Developer

If i had tiny more time i would have implemented many more ideas and removed some gamebreaking bugs. I will make sure to add it til its release to loose the feeling of being a ripoff. Thanks for the constructive comment!

For sure a good game for only a week to do it, but it feels very unresponsive, lacks feedback for the player and sound effects overall. I would also change the default mouse cursor into some sort of crosshair to indicate where are we aiming. I also had some troubles with the health rewinding for some reason.
While I appriciate how well the game is made, and I see a lot of people are really enjoying the "Cupheadiness", hope nobody will take it personally, but to me it's a little bit over the line, and could really be called a rip off, when it's paired with mickey mouse it really starts to go into copyright infringement teritory. While I understand the game is just made for this jam and for fun in general and not for commercial use, as I said to me that's a little bit too much. I think it also really hurts the game that it resembles Cuphead so much, because while you can appriciate the inspiration or even parody of some sorts, it puts the thought of Cuphead into my mind instantly, and when you compare any jam game to Cuphead, there is no way the jam game would win, so problems with this game are just standing out more by comparison.
After that rant I still have to say that some aspects of gameplay, dashing for example are well made, and both the art and music is really top notch and instantly resembles what it should resemble. Enemy-wise skeletons are my favourite, great looks overall, and also they telegraph their attacks in a very cool way.
I'm sorry if that seemed a little harsh, but I really appriciate your skill, I would just like to see this set of skills used in something more original next time. Anyway, keep up the good work, and I wish you good luck for both this jam, and any future jams.

Developer

thank you very much. Due to lack of time i got too unoriginal but post jam j want to change quite a lot about this game and maybe if possble get it to release. Really appreciate the detailed feedback and how well you explain it all. Thank you very much my friend.

Hey, nice game! The art and animations are fantastic.

I have some notes, if you don't mind:

  • The game lacks feedback, like, when the player is hit or when the player hits an enemy. For example, you can make an enemy's sprite flash when the player hits it. You can throw the player a couple of units back when hit or make a hurt animation (even one frame is enough, especially when you combine it with throwing back and some sprite flashing);
  • Would be great if I could shoot when moving backwards. For example, right now, if I move right then I have to press 'fire' in the half of the screen I am facing;
  • I didn't get how the rewind mechanic works here. I pressed 'Q' when the coin was active, but nothing happenned.

Anyway, good job!

Developer(+1)

thanks very much for the feedback. Unfortunately the rewind broke right at the end when building the project. The feedback is very valuable and id definitely add all of those to my list for the future. Thank you very much again and wish you good luck in everything.

Pretty cool game.

The animations, art and music were amazing for a game jam

Now that I've seen what you can do in a week, I'm curious what you can do in a month or year.

The only thing that I struggled with is the lack of checkpoints in the first level and I wasn't able to beat the (first) boss.

Also I found 2 bugs:

the boss instantly attacks you when you spawn and you can't dodge it.

in the bossfight you survive at 0 hp, until you get hit again.

Good game overall!

Developer(+1)

thanks for finding the bugs. I had to make the level transitions at the last moment haha. They were quite buggy and the health is a result of not putting equal sign in less than or equals to zero haha. Thank you very much and for post jam i will improve it all.

Overall it is a nice game. It is just a Cuphead ripoff, but it looks fine and is kinda dope for 1 week.

Things i would improve:

-Feedback for the player (When you get hit, When you hit, Arrows when an enemy is out of view...). This one is actually the main problem of this game, and the one that made it kinda frustrating.

-Main menu is too simple, the font is blury (you need to scale font size, not the font gameobject, so it doesnt miss the clarity), and the Exit button doesn't work, at least for me.

-Audio for shooting, enemy attacks, jump, pressing buttons... The music is really nice and really suits this game, congrats to ur producer friend.

-Change the build name to something that isn't Oblivion lol.

-Improve the overall UI, it looks really rushed i guess cause of Gamejam time.

-Some minor bugs that need to be fixed (Animations, not being able to shoot backwards if you are walking...)

-A pause menu.

Thats pretty much it, of course it also needs polish, but for a 1 week game, it is pretty dope. Good job!

Feels really great to play all around!

Developer

Thanks Alex!

heey I see some cool take on the cuphead format, and i like this take on it! The music and art style is exellent and realy feels 30's ofcourse!  It would be nice to have some clarity when it comes to damage. Somtimes you get hit and somtimes you don't. Maybe some polish+ some sound effect and a animation ?    However, geat jobb!

Developer

Thanks man i didnt have much time to make it all but I will for sure make it better post jam!

Submitted(+1)

Thank you for coming to my stream and showing me your game it's one of the best out ther in this jam!

hey its roboknight from the discord cool game i liked the artstyle and sound

Submitted(+1)

Really nice graphics and sound design. I really didn't liked the fact that enemies spawned the way they did. Sometimes I was attacked from behind and I really couldn't react to that. Also - after reaaally long level I came to those holes in the ground that I had to jump over. sadly - I landed exactly where enemy was - because he spawned there just as I landed. Also, the animations bugged for me once and my character was running in place.

Despite those issues I really liked it

Cool game! I really liked the music
