An excellent homebrew of doom and luigi's mansion, needs expanded spawn checking and aggro range, as well as a bit more enemy variety to hit the 5's

This was incredible. I was so shocked to read afterwards only one person had made the whole thing!!! It's a full, "real" game, and the monster designs were really cool to me--especially the blue, column/ballerina-type guys. So unique! I had a ton of fun and I never felt like I was super-cheated. It went on for just the right amount of time and kept me excited and interested up until the ending. The only thing I can even think to say as constructive criticism is that I didn't really enjoy having to open up the game again after I died; a menu would have been nice. But overall, still probably the most polished and complete game I've played during this jam. Hats off, that was crazy good!

...Wow, you have no idea how humbled I am by this comment. This is probably the greatest thing anyone's ever said about one of my projects. Thank you so, so much. And I'm very glad you enjoyed it!

Amazing doom like, lot's of fun to play. Only thing I would add is slower shooting rate/reload time.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I tied the firing rate directly to the animation, and I wanted it to be that quick on purpose. Mansion of Doom is supposed to make you feel like a badass, blasting down these spooky demon monsters like they ain't no thang. The exact opposite of a horror game, but that's totally fine. :D

quite fun and short. Nice game.

Developer

Thanks for playing! :)

More enemies!!!!!! I think this was the most raw fun I had playing a game from this jam. The movement is quick, the shooting is fun. Knocking in doors is a blast! Its as much on theme as you can get without making a boring jump scare game! I love this one!

Submitted(+1)

Loooooooooooooooooooooove it!!!! Also, I can kick enemy bullets but not the enemies themselves, intended?

Developer(+1)

Not at all! :D

Always playtest, kids!

Submitted

That's not a bug; that's a feature :P

Submitted(+1)

Great work, I like the fast movement. I wish there was more than just two enemies or more levels but overall very fun!

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Short, fun, and to the point. Wish the boot worked on enemies too and that the boss was more fleshed out. Really does remind me of the original Doom game.

> fleshed

Haaa!

I'm glad you liked it! I was trying to be mindful of dominant strategy. If the boot worked on enemies, there'd rarely be a reason to use the shotgun. Granted, the fact that it has one specific use while the shotgun has the other specific use makes them more of a no-brainer to use and therefore not super engaging, but I thought that a better solution than the player almost never switching weapons and just running around with their boot the whole time.

Though fun fact, in the early days of the game, the boot was used to knock down the spire monsters (which is why shooting them makes them ragdoll like the doors do, I didn't have the time or energy to give them a proper "I've been shot" way to die). Then I decided it mucked up the flow I was going with, and just went "gun = enemies, boot = doors" to keep everything as clean as possible. Make sure that my players know, with as little implicit instruction as possible, how things work.

Anyway, I'll save the rest of that story for a post-mortem, if I decide to do one. Cheers, have a good jam!

This game is definitely not a horror game, more like an action.  Enjoyment wise, this game is really awesome and I can see myself playing this on my free time. I really like the kicking down doors mechanic, it's just really satisfying.  The gun is also really cool to use, and there are no apparent bugs. Overall, it's a really great game, just not a horror one.

Developer(+1)

Well, remember, the theme of the jam may be "horror" but that doesn't mean you need to make a horror GAME. I actually hate horror games, and decided to use the theme to my advantage instead of doing the obvious and making a Slender knockoff or something of the sort. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though!

Theme: Not really horror, but a nice action game

Fun: Was fun shooting monsters, but then again I do like action games. It doesn't do anything remarkable.

Game Design: Solid design, kind of cheap enemy spawns, but a good experience overall. It knew what it wanted and did it well.

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I should have playtested a bit more, that would have solved the "cheapness" issue.

As far as it not being a horror game, it wasn't supposed to be, and didn't have to be. Horror is just the theme, not the required genre, after all. And my interpretation was "horrors of darkness", not necessarily "be scary". I hate scary games.

I loved it! It wasn't that scary but it was super fun! Definitely gave me inspiration to make similar games lol

I noticed there were some boarded up doors aswell, are those content that you had to cut or just decor? Or maybe I missed something. I had to play it twice because pressing ESC immediately quit the game, so that's one thing I'd change.

Also noticed a minor thing: If I stand still and let the floating red eye get me, he will only damage me once and then just stand next to me hugging me (since I assume the damage is only dealt when he collides, and not by an attack animation)

Really nice work on this game, I esepcially like the attention to detail in the fact that you can shoot the bullets out of the air. And of course giving the player hitscan weapons while giving the enemies projectiles is always nice. And the fact that I had infinite ammo felt really good.

Also I love the fact that I can switch to wield my leg as a weapon lol, that cracked me up :)

Awesome game.

Developer(+2)

Nothing better to hear than that I inspired someone. :) Though about it not being scary, it wasn't supposed to be. "Horror" may have been the theme, but I hate horror games. So I just made a game with the dressings of horror. Demon monsters, spooky mansion, etc. I combined two beloved "non-horror horror" games - Doom and Luigi's Manson - and everything sprouted from there.

Yeah, I had to cut what I planned for those boarded-off doors. It was going to be an outdoor garden-like area, but I realized too late I'd have to make more outdoor decor and a proper "outdoor" scene on top of the mansion itself, so I cut it. Glad I did, the game needed the polish.

Yeah, the eye monster only hits once, until it leaves your damage zone. That uh... never registered as a problem until you mentioned it. Always playtest, kids!

My whole plan was to envoke the Doom feeling, where it just feels good to run around and shoot things. You're not worried about ammo or tactics, just shoot things and don't die. The boot also fit that design I was going for, with that borderline goofy over-the-top action that just feels good to do. I'm really glad I succeeded there!

Overall I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I definitely did enjoy it! Also, you're absolutely right about the Jam games not having to be in the genre of horror, I guess I was just expecting it after playing through other games in this jam :)

Developer(+1)

A lot of people are expecting it, though, and will be voting based on that. I'm automatically losing a few points for not being a "horror game". It's inevitable, unfortunately. But that's totally fine; I made a great game and people enjoyed it! That's what counts.

Submitted(+1)

ok so this isnt a real horror game, the only scary thing is the fact that most enemys spawn 2 inches infront of you which kinda jumpscares you. now as a doom fan i love this game, its so much fun, now it needs more enemy diversety badly and mybe dont spawn the enemys 2 inches infront of the player, also the boss is too eazy but other then that very well done!

Developer

I made the boss easy on purpose as a "victory lap" after being obliterated by the rest of the level. But I suppose a "boss" is supposed to be a final challenge, so maybe I could have upped the difficulty.

Really nice game! A mix betwwen Luigi's mansion and Doom . Wish I could rate it but I didn't have enough time to finish my own submission.

Very well made game! As a fan of old school first person shooters, I love this!
