Theme interpretation
We use the Moon as a resource to power MonMon's "shooting" ability, which we refer to as the moon ray. Also, MonMon is on an ambitious journey which takes him far higher than he's ever been before, which resembles more closely the dictionary definitions of moonshot.

Beautiful artwork, the characters and the world created are astonishing, immersing the player in a very enjoyable atmosphere.
Something that I missed is more feedback when the enemies get hit and a way to see the player’s health.
But overall I think MonMon is a great game, really well done!
Thank you for taking the time to play our game and provide feedback! Speaking of feedback, we for sure will add some feedback to player/enemy interactions when we develop this game some more. We will also look into creating UI elements to track our player's health and to create various progress tracking throughout parts of the game. We really appreciate your comments on the artwork and world! I don't want to toot my own horn, so I'll toot the artist's and music producer's instead. They did some amazing work and I'm very happy everyone has the chance to appreciate it like I did over this past month!
Sorry I left my comments in the "Post your game" thread. I'll just copy paste then here:
Thank you for taking the time to play our game and the time to comment (twice)! We'll be sure to fix the slash/dash death bug, and we'll probably include some UI elements next time to track health/progress. Good job on making it all the way to the final boss!
Thank you for the eye candy. I'll try finishing the game at a later date when I have some the time.
I loved the graphics for this and really enjoyed playing through.
The moon as an energy bar was a stroke of genious and the audio fitted perfectly.
Great stuff!
Thank you very much for taking the time to play our game and leave this comment. We're super happy about how well received the moon ray and moon being used as mana is being received. I have to agree with you about the audio too. I really enjoyed the work our audio producer did!
Enjoyed playing your game. Loved the artwork! <3
Thank you so much for playing our game and taking the time to comment! Next time our artist goes through the comments, I'm sure seeing this one will put a smile on her face!
This was a lovely game.
I thought the graphics were fantastic, and the world was so well built out. The sound fit really well. I had feelings of "Ori" when I started it. Im amazed at the amount of work you've done in such a short space of time.
I'm glad you enjoyed playing our game! Haha we worked very hard to get this much done in the allocated time, every day of the month! Having you compare our game to an amazing game like Ori makes me very happy. Thank you c:
This is such an adorable game! I really enjoyed it :D Played for a solid 20 minutes I think haha
What I think can be improved:
What I absolutely LOVED:
Additional note: I really loved the visuals a lot :) I suck at making custom textures/etc for my games and so end up just using basic shapes/polygons and adding post-processing/cool effects to make the simple visuals “pop”. However, I’d love to help out on a game which has such awesome art!
If you guys ever need another hand to do some coding, Id love to help out! Id be more than happy to help :D
Thank you for taking the time to play and for writing such a thorough comment! 20 MINUTES HECK YEAH! That makes me so happy to hear! I think many others who have played the game would agree with you on the pacing being too easy/slow. That's something we're for sure going to fine tune once this jam is over. I hadn't thought of making it take a second to damage the enemy :O, I'm curious how that feels. I think an audio effect on enemy taking damage might also be a good addition if it's difficult to know if the moon ray is working. We're for sure gonna add things to the UI when we develop the game some more. Many of our players feel like that would be an improvement, and ya gotta listen to the players.
It makes me super happy that there's a section called "What I absolute LOVED"! Our artist absolutely knocked it out of the park for the visuals. She's behind a lot of the "making the game user friendly" stuff! Our artist and our music producer were our game testers, and they helped make the game so much more user friendly. The game didn't even have a tutorial section until our artist pointed out that it'd be nice if we introduced the player to how the controls work. After hours and hours of playing the game, it can be difficult for a developer to take on a new player's point of view, but our artist and our music producer made sure to play it and provide excellent feedback!
Getting to work on games with such an amazing artist (who is also my best friend in the world) is always such a pleasure. I don't know when we'll participate in a game jam again, but I'll keep you wanting to lend a helping hand in mind! Once again thank you so much for playing it and leaving such a well thought out comment!
This is a really fun game, I love the tutorial and the background music that went with it, it was very relaxing music. The game looks really polished and the moon ray is such a cool ability!
I think I'd like to have seen some progress indicators of some sort (player or ship health, distance remaining, level, etc). Overall a great game. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for taking the time to play our game and provide feedback! I have spent a lot of time chilling on the tutorial island and the main menu just listening to the masterpiece our music producer made. I'm really glad to hear you like the moon ray too! From what I've seen in the comments, I think a progress indicator would be a very good addition to this game when we work on it again in the near future. There were a few things that could've been improved with UI elements, and we're for sure going to look into implementing those. Thank you for playing!
I got the dash/slash bug on the boss and i couldn't dodge the lightning :'(
Great game mate! Awsome artwork, great hollow knight vibes, nice music and atmosphere!
Awww that flippin bug has led to the end of many MonMon journeys. I got around to the boss a bit late into the jam, so there's a good chance the lightning ability might not be well-balanced. I love seeing people compare it to Hollow Knight. That's one of my favorite solo player games! Our music producer came on board late into the jam, but she absolutely popped off. Thank you so much for taking the time to play the game and comment!
Wow. Great vibe super smooth gameplay. Artwork is off the charts. Such a lovely game. I really gotta level up my ray shooting skills to get further. Well though tutorial and story unfolding from the get go. So professional. Big Up guys, great job.
Thank you so much for taking the time to play our game and comment! I am super duper proud of our artist for all the work she did over the duration of the jam. I'm sure you're a ray shooting master. You're just being humble! The tutorial was an idea our artist had late into the jam, and I'm honestly so glad she did. It's a good intro into how attacking in the game works. Once again thank you so much for taking the time to comment especially something so nice and thoughtful.
Your game was on my to-play list even before you commented on The Ogi, but let me just say, I am so glad I didn't skip this. I didn't get far, because I'm an artist and admittedly a horrible gamer, and I got stuck at the middle ocean checkpoint area, on probably I'd assume to be the first level, but holy. The coding is so smooth. The art style is fantastic. The sound had me dancing in my chair. Honestly, can I connect with you guys? I'd love to hear more about your behind the scenes and see more of the assets I didn't get to see. Fantastic job guys, 5 star ratings across the board.
Thank you so much for all your praise and for taking the time to play through our game! I can definitely relate when it comes to being a horrible gamer, I too am an artist and struggled with completing our own game :0
I'd be more than happy to chat and share some of our art process/concepts and assets!
the web version stopped for me after i did a shell dash while talking to the second friendly character.
agree with other comments about it being a bit slow at times. But it gave me more time to take in the lovely graphics, i love the level getting darker when you drain your mana.
Thank you for taking the time to play the game and to comment. I'll take a look into why that error happened. I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed the graphics of the game!
The art here is incredible. All of the characters look really cool. I also like the Moon Mana mechanic where you can see the world getting darker as you use your beam. The pacing is a little slow though. The beginning boat ride feels like it could have been a lot faster and still maintained the chill vibe you were going for. Overall, though, great job!
Thank you very much for playing it and providing feedback. I'm glad to hear you liked the Moon Mana mechanic, it was really fun to implement. As for the pacing, we plan on increasing the pace of that first level on the post-game jam release!
Well done! So happy to hear you accomplished this with your best friends that's amazing! The art is beautiful gameplay is fun and unique. So many things done well here, amazing job!
Thank you so much for taking the time to play it and comment. Making games with my best friend is honestly living the dream, and I'm glad we got to have a taste of that during this game jam!
Some of the coolest art I have seen this jam! Very nice. Reminded me a bit of Hollow Knight. Cool atmosphere and the moot beam felt good.
Great job!
Thank you very much for taking the time to play and respond! To be compared to Hollow Knight makes me really happy! I'm very happy to hear the moon beam works well too!
Saw your post in my thread. 5 stars for u guys!
5 stars holy guacamole...Thank you so much for taking the time to play! We're honored to get such a high rating. I'm smiling from ear to ear right now.
U guys deserved it lol. I put more detailed feedback in the thread u posted in. I got Wind Waker grandma vibes form the first character haha
Beautiful game, cool mechanic with moon being your ammo, and really nice chill music. I think the whole game could be sped up like 50% i.e. first level is long, jump is floaty, enemies take too long to die. But really one of the more polished examples out here. I'm amazed you guys pulled this off in a month.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and play our game! A lot of people have mentioned pacing issues, especially at the beginning of the game. When the next version of MonMon is released to the world, it will for sure have faster paced gameplay, especially early on. Thank you for the kind words also! It was quite the month!
i wasnt really sure how to handle the enemies that flew to the ship and exploded, but the game is really great overall. the little world you built is wonderful :)
Thank you for taking the time to play our game and for the kind words! The safest way to destroy the skull enemies is with the moon ray, but if you're fast enough, the slash can work wonders too.
wow. this is great, i especially enjoyed the animation and the artwork.
Thank you so much for playing and taking the time to write this comment. This was our artist's first step back into animation in a long time and she absolutely killed it.
of course, it's next-level
The art and the moon game mechanics are simply amazing. Love it!
This will put a smile on our artist's face when she reads this later. Thank you!
It is unfair how good this is.
It's unfair how kind you are!
