The music is a total bop! And the visuals were crisp and beautiful! The movement and gameplay felt really good too. This is was super fun to play. I gave it many tries. Two things I would consider making better:  (1) The blue-tenna ability was probably the weakest of the three, I didn't try it too many times. (2) It's very easy to get in a situation where you lose multiple hearts consecutively. I would add some invisibility frames after taking a hit to make it a little more forgiving.

Those were minor criticisms though. It was a great game. The boss was really difficult and in the end I couldn't get quite past them, but I had a blast playing this one. Nice work!

Developer

thanks for the comment! I'm glad you gave it several tries :D the boss is definitely a tough one, but I hope it was fair too!

I agree that the game can be very brutal at times, so I'll be sure to make invincibility frames along with some clear visual indicator!

thanks again for your thoughts <3

pretty cool! although couldn't get any of the other abilities to work but the mandibles o_O great job though keep going! loved the music + art.

Submitted(+1)

The most polished game so far. Very high quality presentation and replayability. Got to the end and the text stopped at "debugged" so I think I won?

Submitted(+1)

Y'all did a great job with this game! Everything in the game is superb.

One improvement would be not placing enemies directly next to spawn points. Sometimes when I jumped up to the next room and enemy would be almost directly in the same spot I spawned in the room. This would unfortunately cost me a heart at times.

Developer

yep I definitely agree that some rooms need tweaking in this way! there's one room where the beetle charges at you immediately and I think "aw man, I need to change that asap," haha!

but I'm super glad you liked the game otherwise! thanks for the comment <3

loved the metroidvaina vibes and the level of polishnessss: great graphics, gameplay and music :D.

Submitted(+1)

wow! excelent!
really good finishing of everything doesent look like you rushed for the jam xD

Submitted(+1)

Excellent graphics, audio and gameplay. Character ontrols really well. Very cool entry!

Submitted(+1)

Graphics are awesome ! Vey polish ! nice game ;)

Submitted(+1)

It's so polished as other folks mention! Are the stages randomly generated.. ?! Loved your challenging level design :) Great job.

Developer(+1)

thanks! and yes the stages are randomly generated each time you start a run! :D

Submitted(+1)

A very nice game but too difficult for me. The graphics are amazing above all the kind of pipes in background.

Developer

glad you enjoyed the art despite the difficulty! I understand that hard games can be offputting sometimes, but that's okay :D

Submitted(+1)

A really fun rouge-lite game. The art is gorgeous and the gameplay is very smooth. The different powers are cool but I could not get the remote control one to be effective especially against the flying enemies. Overall a really cool game.

Developer

I'm glad to hear the game feels nice to play, it was very important to me for this to be the case!
and yes I definitely agree that the blue-tenna is very difficult to use compared to the other two. this was intentional, but I'm also brainstorming on possible ways to buff it in the future :)

Personally I would like there to be some way to actively kill bugs with it. Unless I misunderstood how it works the only way to kill bugs with it is to lure them into the spikes you push out of square blocks which is very unreliable. I like the idea of modifying the environment to help you clear levels but the offensive capability seems lacking since you have no other weapons, at least until you find more.

Developer

you've understood how it works! the original idea is that the ability is a weaker starting point from which to grow, by taking more abilities, into completely dominating the room, but not directly doing damage yourself. something like controlling objects' movements, spawning new ones, causing them to explode, etc. it's the "magikarp" path, if I were to use a pokemon analogy. I'll definitely brainstorm some more direct "last-resort" options for it though, so it's less punishing to be in a bad spot

right now, I agree it is very difficult to use. but I assure you that it is possible to clear every room with just this ability, having designed each room this way. it takes a completely different playstyle though, which is where a lot of the difficulty comes from

hope this has been enlightening, and thanks again for sharing your thoughts! :D

Playing the game and skimming over the comments other folks have left, I can safely say others have done a great job summing up my thoughts on your work.  Thus far, this is the most polished game I've played. From graphics to sound to completely different play styles depending on your chosen ability. It all just works wonderfully.

Personally, my only beef is with the controls. Specifically, decades of using my left hand and WSAD to move has made controlling character movement with my right hand a bear. For me, it was like throwing a ball with my non-dominant arm... I suck at it. While I enjoyed my time with the game, it was a struggle due to those decades of muscle memory (or, I suppose lack of muscle memory with my right hand). I think I would have enjoyed the game even more if I could move using my left hand.

My one beef aside, you did an absolutely fantastic job creating a wonderful game. Well done!

Developer(+1)

wow thank you for the thoughtful comment!! it's good to hear that people are all agreeing on how to improve the game, it makes the next update that much easier :p

I totally understand feeling weird about the controls. on pc, I've most recently played pokemon emulators and deltarune, so arrow key movements are what I am most comfortable with right now, but I do like to play with a controller for platformers, so it killed me that I couldn't implement an "edit controls" feature in time..
needless to say, that's going in the next update for sure, along with lots of other QOL stuff! thanks again for the comment, hearing your experience with the game was super valuable :D

Submitted(+1)

Really cool and polished. Movement controls are tight and music is on point!

Submitted(+1)

What a solid game. I love everything in this--gameplay, music, art. It's so clean. This will definitely go up in the ranks! Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game and well designed! It was very challenging for me personally cause it took me a while to figure out they eye quip. This game is definetly underrated - should be a top game tbh for me so far, really nice job. Very polished artwork and very responsive game!

Developer

thanks so much omg! it means a lot to hear that it's underrated, as I've been sort of obsessing over numbers these past few days haha..
but I'm really glad you liked it! <3

I’ll share it in the hidden gems section of the game off discord - cause that’s exactly what this game is c:

I love the atmosphere and art style of the game. The environment design was great and I got some Hollow Knight vibes while playing. The antenna ability was definitely not a good first choice though. I had a lot of trouble finishing off the enemies and I didn't realize I could move around the level while activating objects.

Developer(+1)

thank you! it's funny you mention hollow knight, because one of the inspiring questions I had when conceptualizing this game was "what if hollow knight was a roguelite?" :D

and yeah, blue-tenna is by far the hardest ability to use. I usually can't finish a run with it as it is now!
I was very close to creating a system where you got more first-item options as you played the game more (on the first run you'd only have the red mandibles, on the second you could choose mandibles or stun, on the third you could choose from all three). I think I'll make this for the next version, and maybe a way to test out each ability before doing a run

thanks for the feedback!! :D

Submitted(+1)

What a visually stunning game! Music and sfx were also amazing n.n

Lots of fun and a little bit of challenge
For me, jumping on enemies is my favourite playstile!
I think the antenna is the most difficult style, but still fun to play with

Congrants!

Developer

yay thank you! I'm super happy with how the audio of the game turned out :D
super glad it's a challenge, but not offputting with its difficulty. the starting abilities do increase in difficulty as you go left to right, but I tweaked all the rooms until I could consistently beat them without taking damage with each starting ability. but anyways, thanks again for playing and for the comment! <3

Very good roguelite with really catching music !! (I really like this game genre)

And I love the style of the main character 🐜💚

It took me ~30 mins to beat the game (with retries).

  ^^

Developer(+1)

woohoo congrats on beating it!! :0
even as the developer, it took me several tries to beat when I first put it all together! haha!

Submitted(+1)

Nice little game! I really enjoyed the cute graphics (the bug looks like Appa from Avatar :) ) and simple mechanics of the game. The concept is simple yet really well executed into a game. I only managed to play a small part of it cos I died way too many times and way too quickly. I didn't originally realise that I could only pick one skill and was confused as to why something I expected to work wasn't working. :P I'm also unsure of what the X slot does as  seeing other comments, its to equip another skill but I tried it and it didn't work for me. (Not sure if its a problem on my side) But otherwise, it is a fantastic game! Great job!

Developer

thanks so much for playing!!

yep, after some feedback, it is definitely unclear how the "choose starting item" room works, so I'll be sure to release an improvement as soon as the voting period is over!

how it works currently is that when you pick one of the three weapons, the most recent one that you picked is equipped. if it is an active item--red madibles or blue-tenna--it is equipped to your Z action slot. green stun is passive, so it is not given a slot. when you find other active items, the button you press--Z or X--determines which action slot it goes into. You can tell it's active by the text at the bottom of the equip screen, which essentially asks "which slot do you want to equip this item?" I'll definitely improve this too

hope this helps you, or others in the future, and thanks for the thoughtful comment! <3

A little buggy but extremely charming! Took me 30 mins to beat the game, some heals would be nice. The Green Stun and Blue-Tenna skills at the start are very creative but a little clunky to use and I would definitely like to see a more polished version! I assume I should be able to equip more than one skill (?) judging from the two slots at the top right but I was only able to use one. Otherwise, this is still a great game and I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing it. The sprite animations and music are the highlights for me!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm honored that you played until beating it, and I'm glad it took several tries but less than an hour! Your critiques will be super helpful for improving it in the next update :)
I planned on having a "room rewards" mechanic for restoring health and gaining some type of hub currency, but there's only so much that one programmer can do in a month haha
Also, when you equip an Active skill, the button you press (X or Z) equips it to the respective slot. I'll make this more clear in the future!

Thanks again :D

Submitted

I figured that might be the case (use X or Z) to equip different skills but it does not work for me. Pressing X does not trigger the skill description prompt.

Developer(+1)

ahhh I see the confusion. This was an intentional choice due to time limitations, but currently, the first ability is always equipped to the Z action when starting a run. This is because when you enter the "start run" doorway, the ability is actually equipped, and not in the "ability-select" room. I'll add some sort of check for this in the future so that you can equip it to whichever slot you like! Maybe make the "interact" button different from the "action slot 1" button too.
