Obviously love the graphics and sounds.

Although this worked fine when you shared links on discord during the jam (not sure which browser I was using then but I think firefox), the final version just hangs on 'loading' for me (firefox). Works in Chrome, but massive (3+ seconds) lag during the game where it hangs for no obvious reason until you get through the first couple of levels then it seems OK - so I guess some background loading that should happen during loading screen but isn't.

I didn't realise it there was a move counter until late in the levels ,and I think it was a bit harsh to just wipe all progress instantly with no warning or way to go back. Replaying all the levels again seemed like a chore.

Also I had no idea when to use the powerups, knownig that they would cost money I ended up not using any of them. I'm not convinced that tieing them to a limited resource - in a game with instant permadeath - works that well.

COOOOOOOL ! that was incredible ! i had written like a long comment about things i found to improve the game as you asked but maybe itch was not okay with that so it was never posted xD.£

Incredible game to be honest

Developer

haha too bad with the comment limit. what would be the top 3 improvement aspect one liner in your opinion?

Very nice polish, well done! It feels like a store ready game already and I could easily see chess enthusiasts enjoying this. Art-style is simple and fits the theme, there is a bit of story which is nice, and the purchasable power-ups are a fun addition. Overall very good!

thanks for the kind review!

Nice puzzle game, simple  but effective. The ability to purchase 'cheat' moves is both a fun mechanic and also greatly increases puzzle complexity. Pastel colour palette is a nice touch, and the audio is very soothing. My only complaint, and this is probably an issue with Godot more than your code, is that my modest laptop (with integrated GPU) was running flat out to render this game, so I had to stop playing because my thighs are buring, even though I was having fun! :-) Regardless of that, great work!

Developer(+1)

ah yes, i need to fight with godot to make web export works well haha. thanks for playing!

The game feel is incredibly polished! The micro-interactions are super satisfying. While the animations can occasionally feel clunky or fail to appear on screen, it's not a big deal, haha (the restart button [R] really saved the day). IMO, it would be great if the movement mechanic switched from multi-click to drag-and-drop—it would reduce 'unnecessary effort' and help me stay focused on the fun parts.

Developer

will seriously consider drag - drop to move, thanks for testing it out!

A fun play on chess movement! It's pretty impressive that you actually made this game in a week and submitted it very early. I've made similar comments that puzzle games aren't exactly my interpretattion of "secrets," but I feel like they are still valid for the theme. Well done!

Developer

hey, thanks for playing!

Had a great time playing this! The art style is so fun, and the screen shake when you try to redeem invalid coupons is such a fun bit you incorporated. The keybinds feel pretty natural, and the audio set a nice ambience. The concept of patches is really unique and adds a great dimension to the game, and the "move up one" and "move down one" patches are a really creative idea.

Developer

thanks for playing the game! good to hear that the patches is really blend into the game

This game reminded me of how I'd move the pieces in chess in my head all the time when I was a kid. It makes sense in a way internally to me that tetris makes sense. I think that this is a great puzzle game and could be easily expanded with different pieces or movesets into a fun puzzle game or thoughtful exercise in chess practice.

Developer

thanks a lot for playing the game! totally relatable in moving chess pieces inside the mind before making the move!

Super charming visual style, and I really adore all the little UI touches. I think that sort of thing is integral to a game like this and you nailed it!

Developer

thanks a lot for playing the game!

A really awesome game, I really enjoy the chess inspiration of the puzzles! I was a little lost where the goal tile was at first though, but that is mostly due to color blindness lol. Wonderful creation overall! :D

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing! you’re right, i could’ve put more attention to the accessibility setting, hopefully for future builds!

A very solid entry, I'm glad to play this game after seeing it on Bluesky ;)

The concept is really innovative. It's quite original to have a story within a more cerebral game like this one, good job on this as well :)

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot! i saw you on Bluesky as well, happy to connect!
