Really dig the UI map guides. Also the entire game had a sort of Star Control 2 feel to it and that's great! Congratulations on your submission.
I like this game. It's got smooth movement and shooting, and the visuals are really good particularly the backgrounds and particle effects. I also like that you put icons on the UI to guide the player on where various things are. I love the controls because I go forward depending on where my mouse is aimed. The little mechanics are neat. Like some comments here have pointed out, I would've liked to have some gating mechanics to avoid players cheesing the game or rushing to the end. There was also the issue of the menu buttons remaining on-screen when I was already in the game, which I had to restart to fix. I understand a lot of these issues can be fixed with more time, though. Overall, great game, I can see why it's got many ratings :)
Thanks for the comments and feedback! I just pushed out a build that will hopefully make things harder and where the boss bottle will need a better ship or at least more upgrades. Also put in fixes with the UI, not sure if it will help exactly with the bug you faced but hopefully it will improve it.
This was a pretty neat game! I liked a lot of the mechanics. I've seen your replies to some other comments, and while there is, of course, always room to improve and progress your game design and implementation, the important thing about the jam is to learn something from it. Well done!
Hi GDTV2021 friend :) I saw the logo and it vaguely jogged a memory of your last game. Very ambitious, I'm impressed at what you got done in the time available.
I have a dream of adding Elite style elements to my 2D shooter, though this time I stuck purely to the action elements.
Nice game and it looks great. I got my butt kicked by the enemies so the second time round I sniped them outside their range and they were helpless. Same for the boss. Maybe add in some mechanic to avoid that. Good job!
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks for the comments and welcome back! I completely went the wrong way with a lot of things on this project, mostly because it was my first attempt a 2d player controller, but it was too late in the jam when I realized it. Such is the way of a jam :)
I didn't see your project in the sea of submissions, I'm heading over right now to check it out!
Nice game.
I was able to make a run and go straight to the final planet, and defeat the boss, without doing anything else.
So maybe add some mechanics to avoid using the warp gate before all enemies are killed or while collecting resources from asteroids/enemies.
But otherwise, great job :)
Ok, I've gotta say that was pretty great! You were able to achieve a huge sense of scale but in a short, fun experience. The controls felt nice, the world and ships were all well done. The only thing I wished for was a little bit longer of a battle at the end. Either way, the combat overall was enjoyable and the journey was awesome.
Nice game, could've done with a bit more variety on the upgrades - felt like getting cargo was a little needless.
Music & planets were superb.
Good game. I wish there were more enemy variation and different ways to upgrade player ships. But given the time limit, great job done on the game. Did you made those planets models yourself? They look awesome.
