What a gorgeous and inventive little game. I love the idea that you can't always have everything and have to make do as best you can. Sounds like you're already working on tweaking the camera, so it looks I have more to look forward to soon :)

Very nice aesthetics!
The came isn't best, it's very difficult to see what's happening in front of the cube.

So glad to see that the default cube gets his light! Really fun game and a cool concept. I loved how there really was no way to always win and there was always a restriction on the controls in one way or another.

I would love to see some more infinite runner things like in Temple Run there were those sharp turns or different elevations.

Or give the shooter ability more usability or function.

Super cool and a great game!

PS The colors rocked!

Cool and fun concept of changing abilities for some variety and different options.

I definitely enjoy the mobile combinations (such as jump and dash) over the immobile combinations (such as Stop and Shoot).

I like the vibrant colors and background.

Great job creating and submitting a game!

Nice game. I agree with other comments, camera angle could be better. Also a longer stretch of floor without holes and obstacle at the start of each level would be useful. Often I didn't see the first hole because the cube itself was blocking the view. It would also help to check what the new abilities are for the level before you actually need to use them.

I did not expect to like this game as much as I did.  I really liked the limit of 2 abilities at any given moment.  I thought it made it really interesting.  I think some music and SFX would really help.  Also picking up the camera a bit and angling it down would make it a bit easier to see the obstacles.  But I'm not certain because it might obscure what you can duck under.    At any rate, nice submission!

Developer(+1)

camera defo needs some work, is on the todo list =)
SFX are also on the todo list... but music is defo there, so if you heard none, something was not working! It was the first time my jam-buddy ever composed something, and to me it's absolutely magic that people can just make music out of nothing, so the idea he could make different tracks for each power and they all work together in the different combinations is mindblowing (I am xtremely non-musical)

The lack of music was an issue on my end.   Your build was fine.

Very pretty. Took me a while to understand when you said you only had 2 abilities at a time, that included the basic movement controls! At first I thought I was in some sort of tutorial that was introducing the controls one at a time.
Very smooth and playable. I was rubbish at it but it wasn't frustrating. I did the best on the level that was just shooting and ducking haha.

Very well made, good job! I liked this take on the theme.

Awesome visuals and fun concept!

On the downside, I think the camera position could be better as often I couldn't clearly see what was going on. Crouching is OP :D

I like the look of the game and I think it could be fun to play but I couldn't get used to the controls swapping constantly. good work though!

Played and rated.

The visuals are fantastic! However I found it pretty unfun to have controls limited and changing each death, though the concept can give something interesting. Good job making this for the game jam!

Would appreciate if you check out and rate our game as well: https://hadilepanda.itch.io/rise-of-necromancy

I really loved the aesthetics, very colorful. I'm not so sure how the overall game relates to the theme of the game jam but its still a fun little endless runner.

Developer

the idea is that death is not really death, just the beginning of new controls :) I was brainstorming for ideas and got stuck on "the king is dead, long live the queen", started looking up the history of the idiom, and somehow ended up here...

Submitted(+1)

Great concept. And visuals are seamless. I love how even the game page is fully on theme.

Great game idea! My only suggestion would be to make the camera view a little more overhead as mezzanine510 said. The concept of having different abilities every time you come back is awesome though. I kept getting shoot which was nice, but I barely got jump or left and right, so I kept dying to the holes :)

Submitted(+1)

I think the concept is great, I love that you can only do a certain amount of actions at a time. I would recommend making the camera's view be a little more overhead, as sometimes it's hard to see the obstacles or holes in front of you.

Developer(+1)

that is a good point you make. Will do. I am thinking of redoing this from the ground up, redesigning powers and obstacles to make more sense, keeping the idea that what is availble changes each time. Sorry if it's hard to figure what's in front of you atm =)

Submitted

Don't be sorry, you did a great job!

Submitted(+1)

This looks great! I like the shininess, the particles, the transparencies, great job.

One great addition (yet not an easy one at all) would be to make sure that the level adapts to the movement combination available each time, so the player always has an option. I felt like I would die really quickly if I didn't have a key to move left or right.

Keep at it!

Developer(+1)

yup some combos are just really good or really sucky. My plan for following iterations is to figure out some combos which should not happen, and diversify obstacles so that all combinations which will end up happening will have a chance... but there was no time. Definitely on the todo list tho =)

Very aesthetically pleasing game!

It was fun to use different moves in each cycle. My favorite combo was jump/crouch.

However, the holes on the ground are hard to spot from the camera angle. Maybe consider adding something to make them stand out more or a way to move the camera a bit to the side so that perspective can help.

Good game!

Congrats on completing the jam! Very shiny visuals. The camera positioning made it a bit difficult to see/react to jumps. I liked how it mixed things up and you had to work with what you had, even if it was a bit unfair sometimes. I found the music very loud, a volume slider would be awesome.

Developer

uuh sprry about the volume. Did not even think about it, but yeah, makese pefect sense, will add in the future. Thx for pointing it out and not suffering in silence!

Nice endless runner! Loved the idea that at every death you can do different things, it keeps the game never the same and still enjoyable for a while. However, I never got the crouch, am I unlucky?

Nice done!

Developer(+1)

I keep getting the crouch, so I guess unlucky indeed... especially cause it has my favourite music track of the lot XD

Great Job with the explanation screen in the beginning. As soon as the game began I already knew what I was doing and didn't feel lost. The graphics as well look amazing.  But most importantly your game was fun.
