this is a fun little game! really nice graphics and palette. nice music and sound. the growing effect on the plant seemed unnecessary and didn’t fit the Game Boy aesthetic. some actions were a little tricky to get working sometimes, especially preparing the new tiles for the plant to grow into. it seemed like you couldn’t go as far up against the top fence as you should, so that top row was even harder to affect. it was a little unclear where you are meant to get the plant to go, but the screenshots helped a bit. i guess the lock icon didn’t seem intuitive to me that it would unlock once the plant got near it. i really like the gameplay and atmosphere despite those small gameplay complaints. nicely done!
Seems like a cool concept, but it feels very slow. The atmosphere is GREAT. Figuring out what to do was very confusing. Having to wait forever to prep the ground felt somewhat arbitrary. Getting the vine to change directions was an act of congress. It wouldn't change directions forever then it just randomly started working. Grass grows too fast and randomly hinders vine progress. I felt like I had to chop grass down 10+ times because it would grow back instantly. In the third room I got stuck and couldn't prep the ground on the top most layer of tiles because of the collision box that encompasses the entire player sprite.
I think with some minor tweaks this could be a really solid game.
I loved the atmosphere. the graphics and the art is sinister/beautiful.
This game has good pixel art, I really like it.
Sadly, I was not able to pass through level 1! I tried everything and just couldn't make the plant grow. If you could tell me how to do it, I will give it a try!
Looks and sounds great, seems like a cool idea, but its very hard to figure out what is going on and what to do.
I think you did a fantastic job here, but definitely need some instructions. I didn't know initially that you had to prep the ground by holding the button down, and then couldn't figure out that I had to hit the vine to make it turn until I did it accidentally. After that, though, I had fun with it. Great job!
Took 5 reloads and reading comments before I accidentally discovered I have to hold down to prep the ground. So that got me out of level 1. On level 2 though, I have no idea how to make my vine turn a corner to reach the gate. This definitely needs to be introduced to the player.
Because other than that it's a great looking and great sounding game, and seems reasonably solid.
I was confused at first. But when I understand it, I feel good about your idea. But after going through another room, I feel like I need to learn more. I think the learning curve of the game is a bit too high.
it took me a really long time to understand what I was supposed to do to get out of the first room with the vine in it. i also encountered some bugs that disabled by controls and made me reload the page :(
otherwise the art is very good and I enjoy the soundtrack!!
Couldn't complete the first puzzle :'( I tried a lot but didn't understand what was happening. Liked the palette and the graphics though, and controls weren't bad but the collisions aren't clear so most of the time I became stuck with things.
Great job, like others have said the presentation of this game is great. I'm a big fan of the graphics and music. It took me a bit to understand the controls, but once I did everything was fairly intuitive.
As it stands, the charge slash/vine spread feels really slow. I felt like I spent a lot of the game just waiting for the vine to follow the path I had set without a ton to do.
The game is beautiful and very fun. Took me a while to figure out how everything, even manage to teleport my self outbounds and skip one of the rooms. Well done! I'm really impressed on what you accomplished in just a week.
This game is gorgeous, and the concept is good, tho I couldn't figure out how to give direction to vines, I may have missed something ! Except that it's a really jam game, well done !
So I had the same issue with the arrow keys - but I switched to WASD and had more success. I really love the aesthetic! the sprite work is fantastic and I love the crypt theme. The music was cool, but a little more modern than what I prefer for a Gameboy game. Despite using WASD for movement, I did still find the controls quite clunky, and some of the collisions were a little unclear. Great job though! I'd love to see it more fleshed out with a smoother control scheme.
I had the same issue with the arrow keys.
The mechanics of preparing the ground for the vine to grow is interesting. I'd love to revisit this once I can play it without scrolling the page.
The graphics look really good and the music is well written, but (this may just be my computer) the arrow keys don't get locked when the game is playing so moving around makes the whole page move up and down, making it a bit unplayable. It also seems like the game resets when the player walks through that first door, resetting the items? Maybe I was missing something, but I could figure it out :(
