The amount of cutscenes and engaging dialogue in this is super impressive for a jam game! The "collecting" part felt a bit long, otherwise the pace was perfect and kept me engaged! Sometimes there must've been some weird physics issue cause the ball got super slow, but jumping made it normal speed again. (This happened if I hadn't moved for a while, for example after a cutscene)

Great work with the music too, when it was used it felt great and added a lot, I wish there was more music!

Developer

Ah, those weird physics things were definitely terrain sculpting issues where I didnt properly smooth out slopes, thats my bad.

Glad you liked the rest though! I really wanted to make more music, but I had to focus on bug fixes and polish. Next round for sure tho!

the animation at the start of the game is sick, how'd you do that? great submission! looking forward to see what you do with this in the future

Developer

Haha thank you!

The intro cutscene was made using Unity's Timeline tool. Makes it easy to animate a bunch of objects in a scene like that.

This game is absolutely packed with character and charm. Had a great time, only played through story but I may come back to try the other modes later. The animals and the story and the art are just so cute. I had a horrible time during the aim training level as it felt pretty bad to aim but not egregiously so, however my cannons stopped firing and I had to restart the story. I found that even though I was having a horrible time I was also having a great time because of all the charm and cuteness. The story mode alone was incredibly impressive given the time constraints, and great job working in the story and the animals and mostly the projectiles. Well done, very impressive!

Developer

Ah! Sorry to hear you had trouble with the cannons. Theres definitely a lot of room to improve with the projectile system.

But I'm glad you liked everything else!

I don't know if it's just the cel-shaded art style, but this game reminds me of Wind Waker. Lovely vibe. Cinematics are top notch and just an all round fun game. You did a great job telling the story.

The game looks and sounds great, the story is simple but compelling, the cutscenes are cute and funny. I loved the Katamary when I played them and I love seeing it back here; my favorite part is still the arena battles. I had some trouble in the training when I was supposed to shoot down targets. I assume I need to throw myself at them with some degree of force (I am the projectile?) but I was only able to shoot down one. Other than that, everything else, great work.

Developer

Ah sorry to hear you had issues with the projectiles.

There were tooltips and dialogue in the training camp that explained how the projectiles worked, but as I thought it was a little too much info to dump on the player at once. (And tough to maneuver)

Amazing story and cutscene! I like how you implemented the projectile in your round 1 game. Can't wait to see what this game turns into. Great job!

Amazing work this round. Very clear story-telling, cinematic opening was high quality and didn't overstay its welcome. Plenty of story tied into the gameplay. This is S-tier stuff.

Fantastic update to your round 1 game. I’m really happy we got to see more from beetles this round. Great cuts scenes, fits the story round perfectly.

Man, the level of polish here is nuts. I'm just blown away by how fantastic the cutscenes have come out, the framing and character animations, it all just looks really polished and juicy, even for a non-jam game. The narrative flows well with your dialog system, it's cute and funny and integrates so seamlessly with the game play. Also just having all the assets in place (Music etc) with a cohesive art style (That cartoon outline depth shader thing look sick). Just a really impressive game.

Mechanically the movement feels good, I actually feel like it's a bit more controllable than round 1 but maybe that's just in my head. The shooting is tough!

Super awesome job.

Developer

Ahhh thank you sooo much! Im so glad especially that everything gels together well.

And don't worry, its not just in your head. I spent weeks between rounds just refining the motion haha

The story was so cute! I love the cutscenes. The shooting mechanics were really tough to control to be honest, but everything else about the game is perfect!

Thanks so much!!
Yeahhh its hard coming up with a sweet and simple shooting system when its stuck on a rolling ball, but I'll try to improve it as time goes on.
(Honestly I shoulda just given the player a BUNCH of cannons so they could shoot like crazy)
