I really like the setting and art of the game, it's a top down shooter where if you're systematic you will never have to run from anything. I did kind of forget to check the loot from the killed rabbits, but once the ending hit it did make perfect sense, while still being a plot twist, good job!
The game itself felt quite tedious though, and I would've closed it at level three if this wasn't a story round (many other people will miss the ending though). It worked well and felt interesting the first three levels but after that it didn't really bring anything new(could also be cause I didn't check the dropped of stuff, so I missed a bit of story there). Especially the increased search area made it feel very slow. That being said, the slow nature of the game also fits into the narrative, with this being your "day to day job".

The game would've been perfect if there was 3 levels instead of five, so well done!

Yeah, I made up my mind about the 5 days way too early and just stopped thinking about it after that.

I originally had plans for gameplay changes for each day, but never got around to making them.

There are still small bits of text info you can find though. The stuff you collect from rabbits and the text that pops up when you check the paper bag changes each day, all hinting at the ending reveal.

The gameplay is definitely a bit dull. But I feel like shooting the rabbits shouldn't feel too exciting, given the story's purpose. I originally wanted to add an ending where you shoot too many rabbits for no reason. The game definitely needs more horror elements to make it more interesting. But I got really burned out and couldn't add anything else.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Something cleaver I noticed once while playing is that due to the shotgun spraying, you can accidentally hit a rabbit even if you did shoot the correct one. I actually liked this interaction. I wonder if you could've made it so that at one point you're aiming at the right rabbit, but your aim twitches when you shoot, setting off a larger fight. (this could be the main character having subconscious second thoughts about killing all these (innocent?) people.)

Developer

Yes, there are supposed to be innocent. Hence, they are viewed as rabbits.

Very interesting idea, I will definitely consider it if I continue to develop this game.

Oh yes of course! I the connection with rabbits and innocence didn't hit me before somehow

Let me start with the positive - the art and atmosphere are gorgeous. The story was fairly engaging and kept me playing. That being said, the game didn't really come together for me. This is probably a personal thing, but I felt kind of bored throughout the whole game. First of all, the gameplay was pretty repetitive and menial. I think that expanding the map wasn't a great choice as it just increased the tedium of finding the right rabbits, maybe having more variations or rabbits that look more similar to one another, to make it more risky to play. I think having a menial task like this as the main game loop could serve as a great vessel for horror but my other issue was that the game wasn't scary, and I think there's a lot of reasons why. Firstly there's no actual indication that you are in danger. The music is still calm and the vibes are still immaculate. There was at least one moment where there was a monster chasing me and I didn't notice. Having some adaptive music, maybe a tint on the screen or a vignette would have gone a long way. The other thing is that the monsters are complete nonthreats. I don't think I got hit once over both my playthroughs (during the jam and right now). They are way slower than the player, and not only that but shooting knocks them back and stuns them. Something I did in my first round game was have the monster increase slowly in speed, creating moments on tension where they're close but then you pull ahead but then they start getting closer. This forces you to get out of danger as quickly as possible too. Finally, there's never a moment where you are actually forced into danger. If you are just careful while playing, even if you don't know to avoid them, you might not encounter a single threat.

This feedback may come across as overly critical or negative but I think that's because I genuinely wanted to love this game. I thought that it looked amazing, and found the ideas behind it and it's story incredibly compelling. This game was very polished and did a great job incorporating individual elements, they just didn't come together for me.

Developer

All of that is pretty fair criticism. Originally, I wanted to make some changes to your journal every day like “paper please” so you would be more likely to make mistakes. I also wanted to make a perfect ending where you make no mistakes and collect all items. These two ideas were quite conflicting, so I eventually didn't add either of them.

I wanted to add more horror elements. Unfortunately, I got really burned out just finishing the story part and the game loops, so I couldn't add more.

Regarding the difficulty, I always prefer to be on the easier side. Especially since this is a story-focused round, I was afraid that some people might not see the ending if it was too difficult.

Thank you for writing so much about my game. I really appreciate your feedback.

I loved this. The story was nice too.

Also, any vegans here?

I love this. Good story, simple mechanics but perfectly for the task. 5/5 gj!

Got to be up there with the best games of this jam. Great job with the atmosphere and overall story. Shooting mechanics felt crisp and you the way interpreted this rounds task was very clever (animal crucial to gameplay). Fantastic job!

That was intense ;) Good job.

One thing, you might want to consider is hiding the reticule until it can be moved, just a little game feel thing.

Really good game. The artwork is amazing, I especially like the swaying trees and the rabbits when they get bigger. I found the engagement ring too and the twist at the end is brilliant. Coming back to the new title screen is a nice touch. One idea that I think could improve your game would be to automatically go to the next day rather than clicking it

Fun game. This really fits my style of storytelling and I enjoyed it. I had to play through again to see the other ending. Minor nitpick is that the music felt wrong for me, almost too light hearted for this dark game. Fantastic job overall.

I cannot think of a single thing I don't like about this game. Without any spoilers, the ending gave me chills of realization. Very well done, I hope you win!

Amazing entry.

A couple of things:

  • I think you don't need to press "J" for journal, instead you can keep it always open because I didn't see a reason to close it once I've opened it. I would prefer if you have a log for dialogs so you can come back to it.
  • When the day ends was a bit unclear that I need to press the button in the top right corner because I was still moving and shooting.
  • I think would be great if you let character to move while he is shooting.

Apart of these nitpicks I hope you'll get at least top 10!

Great work!

Thanks for your feedback. I added the dialogue log and made the journal pop up automatically after the dialogue finished. The next day button is now more obvious and placed in the right bottom corner where players will look for the journal.

I also accidentally found and fixed a bug which made you skip the whole dialogue if you clicked too fast before the dialogue started. I hope that you didn't encounter that.😅

I can't change shooting though. I didn't draw animations for shoot and move. So the player would be sliding if I made it able to shoot and move.
