Definetly the most accurate recreate i played so far. I love it, that you also included a 2 player mode. In fullscreen was the standard skybox visible, but to be honest thats just nitpicking. Really good job on this one!
Yeah that skybox bug is so dumb, it was introduced when I made the main menu scene and forgot to remove it there. If you start the game, then click play, and then go fullscreen, it should be black. But if you go fullscreen before clicking play, the skybox persists :')
A very accurate and fun near completely accurate recreation of the original. Very fun and very well done. I think you nailed the round and judging criteria. Well done!
This is a really fun game and very faithful to the original but with an awesome modern look. It's cool that you added multiplayer and although I found the first person perspective mode difficult, it's still a really good change of experience. Betty was my favourite character and the explosions looked great. I noticed that on stage 5 the archers at the back didn't shoot at me and I think throwing a spear while running to make it go further would be an improvement. Very solid game and enjoyed it a lot! Here's my final score:
Thnaks for playing! The archers on stage 5 don't shoot in the original game, they only start to chase you once you get close to the exit, so that's not a bug but a feature :')
Faithful remake of the game and very well done. I liked that you included a first person mode, feels like a little easter egg and a nice way to add on top of the original. You remixed the original soundtrack which was another nice touch. Everything worked very smoothly, I didn't encounter any bugs. I feel like every round you absolutely nail the task to a tee and you didn't disappoint here either. Fantastic job, well done!
I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this given how much I disliked playing gain ground, but this was a blast. I think making it in 3D was a great twist that while preserving the elements of the original still sets it apart. I love how the music is a remix of Gain Ground's. While the UI is similar to the original games it is nice how you cleaned it up a bit. There's a ton of polish present, it looks and feels great to play. I think maybe a bit more balancing and changes to the original might have been nice, to make it more fun and fair but I can understand if the intent was to remain faithful. The first person mode is incredibly cool. I wish that the tutorial had not been a wall of text because I didn't read it at first, resulting in my first playthrough only using special attacks which was pretty annoying. I think having a better tutorial or just a separate screen with just controls would have fixed that issue too. Overall though, amazing job!
Thank you! I ran out of time for a better tutorial. I wanted a few screenshots with arrows and text to tell you what is what. But I had to squash a bunch of bugs that popped up in the last few hours instead :') so the main menu was a rushjob and it shows :D
I think I made the game slightly harder than the original. I tried to match everything with the base game, but it's all guesstimate work. I think I overtuned some of the enemies in hindsight, as the original AI feels a bit more forgiving/dumber at times
Perfect score from me. I think the most underrated thing you did was improve everything the OG did poorly. Something as simple as "Frontal Arced Bomb" made that part of the UI 10000 times easier to understand. Not to mention that the enemies don't blend into the background since you actually designed good characters.
The only thing I even had a small issue with was the FPS. I loved switching into this perspective, but there were times when this perspective became really hard to play. I'm certain that for the character controller to be compatible with both top down and FP, you had to think way outside the box, and I think you got it working well, just not quite 100%. That's such a small nitpick though, I can't emphasize enough how amazing this remake is.
Thank you! Yeah, first person mode definitely introduced some challenges, because you can't fake height in 3D like you can in 2D. I tried my best :') but honestly it's just so much better to play it topdown with the way the levels are designed. FPS mode started as a gimmick, turned out to be a very bad idea, but I kept it just because I could :D
Really good recreate! The 3D was actually a nice adition to the game! also very impressive you made it COOP!
For criteria:
Fun: Yes it was as good as the original game, not really wow moments but like I said the 3D was nice
Core elements: 5 stars on that its almost an exact copy, I do think exploring around with balancing wouldve been intresting but I wont score you on that.
Polished: I did not encounter any bugs so no feedback on this.
Sound effect are great I love that you remixed the original song!
UI: Its just the original so I do find it kind of bland? I do think this was more of a creative challenge and just copying the original while being part of the criteria I do think you couldve done something with this.
The 3D version is a fantastic addition! However, it's a bit challenging to play since it's hard to see enemies that are positioned behind.
You've done an amazing job capturing the essence of the original! The UI style, music, and mechanics feel almost identical to the original, which is impressive.
The camera view seems to have some issues for tall screens (16:10).
The level of detail in the models and weapons is absolutely incredible! That said, the animations don’t feel as polished as the rest of the game. Adding a touch of up-and-down motion to the animations might bring a lot more dynamics.
The music feels spot-on, just like the original. Is it a remix, or did you make some edits? Either way, it really enhances the nostalgic vibe.
The in-game UI and fonts are very polished—great work there! However, a few elements, like the exit area, feel a bit unfinished.
Thank you for playing, and for the video! I noticed you didn't use the special attacks that your characters have, so that may be the cause why some levels were a bit challenging. 3D mode was definitely just a fun idea to see if I could get that in, and I agree that playing it is much harder that way lol
For the music, I basically listened to the original track and copied the notes of the main melody, bassline and drum pattern for most of it and as best as I could, then assigned my own instruments, additions and details to it. There's another track playing on level 5 (or 6? can't remember) and on the bossfights at levels 8 and 10, which in my opinion is even better :D
Honestly nobody should have to play the original version of Gain Ground ever again when this exists.
Also, amazing work with the first person mode. I had my doubts about whether it would even be possible to have a first person mode that is so faithful to the original game but honestly my doubts were crushed.
I would say I hope I don't get paired against you but honestly losing to this game wouldn't be so bad.
This is definitely a recreation of Gain Ground. The music remix from the original sounds great. I love the 3D art style. The FPS mode feels kind of trippy. LOL Great job!

Super impressive that you managed to create this in two weeks! Not only did you recreate the game, but also the music, awesome!
Your favorite Gain Ground, but now in 3D! The game simply must get the highest score for recreation.
And for the cutest character models!
For some reason, the game did not launch for me in the web version.

really accurate, i do think this could be the winner! its really good loved it!

Nice, I ought to have actually played the original to know these things. Great job on implementing everything so well
That was really fun :)
First person mode was a very nice addition.
Well done.

P.S bring back mean mia for R4!

Very close remake of the original, great job!

HONESTTLYYYY???
This should be the definitive version of Gain Ground.
I actually have no notes, my first full 5 stars
This is definitely a recreation of Gain Ground. The music remix from the original sounds great. I love the 3D art style. The FPS mode feels kind of trippy. LOL
Great job!
WTF, this is a near perfect recreation of the original game. I'm absolutely dumbstruck.
Amazing work with the music and SFX btw. It's honestly so peak.
