Thanks spikegamedev!
This game is definitely the best game I've played in the jam so far. It's just so polished and fun to play, I really just love this one. My one critique is the two last bees abilities were kind of buggy, (pun not intended) for example smashing a block could let you stand on air, and the wall climb was kind of weird, as you had to basically spam space, but all in all really good job. Also, the text bubbles coming up were a nice touch.
Hey kingjaw! Thanks for checking out my game!
They are really buggy, had to add them last and probably changed something and I can still not figure how to solve climbing... the smash I think I have a way to fix.
For the pop ups, I was so happy I had recorded myself doing them, otherwise there was no way I would have remembered. It is so easy and makes so much sense once you do it once, but then you forget hehe
Ive fallen in love! Amazing job! This would be a great metroidvania! The art, concept and music fit very well togheter. Amazing work!
Hey memile!
That is great to hear! Taking a break these days to rate games, but I am happy you think so! I will see if the next challenge offers a way for me to expand on this!
I really like the art style! I also like that the bees kind of act as powerups and help the beekeeper.
Thanks for enjoying it MeagerZombi!
I had hopped the bees would also be used in fights with NPCs but I didn't have neither the skill nor time to pull it off hehe
This has to be a top 3 game, there's been nothing I don't like! It fits the round theme and does it well, keep doing what your doing, it's amazing!
That is too generous Riotous Games! Glad you enjoyed the experience! Thanks for your kind words, I might use them to finally make a proper devlog other than this:
lovely art as usual :D very cute metroidvania and character, great job :)
Heyo Fennec! Thanks for dropping by! Loved your video with all the ~#£$%
Quite good, only bad thing is the bugs but they don't ruin the game.
Thanks for that Helper Duck!
The bugs are annoying, happy you could look past them!
Very cool! I love the art and the different abilities. I think the character design and story is really special here and that makes everything feel much more unique.
Thanks MightJor! Cheers for trying it out!
I did put a lot of work on the character design, happy it paid off! Planning to make a video soon, hope it is soon SOON!
This game made me really habbee!
As with the best Metroidvanias, I had to collect everything! I'm pretty sure I got it all. I even went back to that early stage breakable platform thinking there was a secret there. I liked the world too much. i didn't want to leave it yet.
The art here is amazing and cohesive. You squeezed so much out of the assets you made. I love it. The animations are spectacular (when they worked, sometimes my smash down wouldn't animate, the platform would break though). I'd also watch for making sure things like the honeycombs are on the layer beneath the player so you don't end up with stuff like this:
I've been watching this come along on Twitter and didn't know what to expect as far as gameplay and I was so happy and surprised you took the Metroidvania route. I want to keep exploring this world and gaining new abilities.
I think the movement needs some tweaking to feel more satisfying. There's nothing wrong with lumbering movement, in fact I think it fits the character design well, but like GhostBit said, give me a little more love on that jump because some of the simple jumps were a challenge because the window for getting it right is so tight. Climbing the walls was like a totally different character because I could move so fast and the animations were at lightning speed.
I'd remove the need to crouch before rolling and slamming and just give them their own buttons. I feel like I could move around more fluidly if that were the case.
^none of that affects my rating and wasn't part of the requirement. I just really enjoyed this game and wanted to leave feedback on what I noticed. When it comes to making an original character with a unique ability, I think you did a Beeautiful job!
Hey EndmarkGames! Thank you for such an indepth analysis!
Really happy you enjoyed it and thank you for your support throughout my tweets! Was great seeing you there!
For the climb, it is bugged. It didnt have this crazy speed nor looked so weird... ( i am still too annoyed to open the project and start again to be honest...)
But with the Jump, I agree, it needs more love.
Cool idea with the rolling and slamming! That might make many things much easier!
Thanks again for your support!
Interesting character with a great ability! Really loved the art and the combination of abilities! 😁
Thanks vintually!
Sorry for the bugs, things did get weird the last day...
great game! art is always fantastic, won't lie to you sir...the controls are a bit weak... the character is very slow and the jump isn't good... please polish on that! otherwise great job! i am a sucker for metroidvanias love em!
Hey Ghostbit! Thanks for dropping by and being so truthful! Respect.
That was indeed my aim, to have slow, punishing movement for a high stakes, strategic platformer (I did want to add coyote Jump though).
Hoped to introduce a system that allowed for just a few bees to be carried at a time, thus forcing the player to make meaningful choices. Like in pokemon, you had to decide if you take the HM slave with you, or a more powerful creature.
ok I can respect that, add some coyote time would benefit you, yeah I got that comment that I should treat the slimes in my game as Pokémon as well! Seems like we are both heading into great things!
loved the chunky pixels <3
Heehe, thanks DerpyDino! They look cool no? The also do allow you to make easier puppet animations, since the pixels overlap, and a few do not make a huge difference.
so cool!! makes any character look polished
Kirby but bees? Yes please!
Really great idea!
One note for future iterations that doesn't really affect my rating of this: Seeing as you can't use space to jump when crouched, you might as well just use the crouch + space combo to roll instead of having to use a tertiary button.
Hey Andrew-David!
I unfortunately haven't played any Kirby games! Are there similarities? Sweet!
That is a very nice idea! It would make so much sense! Thank you! I will keep in mind!
Not gonna lie, I have peeked and saw your posts on twitter. It is just awesome and I am very very afraid of you in the later rounds :)
Thanks for being around Flamingo Games! Don't be afraid of me, be afraid of this:
Feel free to say hello on Twitter/Youtube!
Nicely-presented and already quite polished, I'd love to play with this some more.
Thanks Pens_n_Pixels (great profile picture I must add)
I hope to work on it more, reaaaally wish future rounds allow us to go back and rework on projects.
I love the art and animation, really great!
But tbh the abilities don't feel the most unique to me, still a great sbmission and cool how you did a little metroidvania level were you unlock the new abilities etc.
Hey Federico (that hair on the profile picture is sick)! Glad you liked it!
This is a common point, you are correct, in terms of mechanics they are the classic platformer/metroidvania ones. I am really happy I managed to pull them off and create them in the end (even with last minute bugs popping up...)
also. memes. huehuehue
This is a great game and I love the art.
The only issue is the movement is just soooo heavy and slow. It felt really punishing to fall off even the little platform and have to walk back.
Thanks for trying it out FuzzyChurro (hehe what an sweet name you have there! Creates texture, smell and taste in my mind. Nice!)
You are right! Well spotted! I wanted a heavy character, carrying a hive on their back, climbing dangerous and treacherous cliffs like the OG honey Hunters. LISA was one of the inspirations behind my game, so I was thinking of a very simple walking and jumping movement, where the important thing would be the encounters (that was were the abilities of the bees would shine). I toned it way down of course, since this is just a jam and people are testing the game, so they shouldn't suffer too much without their choice :D
This game is one of my favourites!
thank you GameFavorites! Coming from you, with that name, it gives me extra points hehe
This game is one of my favourites!
Loved the character, the art and animations were super cool! Thought the powers were a little generic though... Still, loved the project.
Thanks Alexio Games!
In terms of mechanics I have to agree, they are the classic platformer/metroidvania ones. I am really happy I managed to pull them off and create them in the end (even with last minute bugs popping up...)
