How does your game fit the theme?
Defeated enemies become your strength adding armor and cannons, but, as that armor breaks so too does your firepower wane, with abilities that consume that selfsame resource, can you find the balance that will take you to the end?

This game is really well made! The 3D animations are really smooth, and the controls are responsive and easy to use. I love how picking up the destroyed tanks actually adds them to the player model. Great work!

haha good game

This is really good, the only complaint I had was the camera was a bit tough to wrestle with at times. Controls were great, and I love that the level would change up. Great work!

I really like the mechanic of picking up your dead enemies and creating some franken-tank. I also liked how the arena walls were dynamic. I would suggest changing the camera angle to be a bit more top down (might require a slight zoom out to compensate) since it was a bit hard to see below me if I was on the top half of the arena.

My favorite part though is when you think you're unkillable because you have so many tanks strapped to you and then the boss comes with an equally ridiculous amount of tanks strapped to it.

Developer

Haha, thank you! The boss was a pretty last-minute decision but I'm quite glad I put it in there, and yea the camera definitely needs to be changed up, probably to a more top-down view like you mentioned. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for checking it out!

Loved this game! The game was fun, and was challenging enough to be reasonable, and for the upgrades to feel worthwhile. One of the best 3D games I've seen in the jam.

This is probably one of my favourite 3D submissions of this jam. The movement is extremely smooth, probably the smoothest 3D movement I've seen so far, and it's extremely fun to control. I really love all the little animation details, like mentioned before the level emerging from the ground, and things like the tank death animations. Although the mechanic of killing things and using their parts is a common take of the theme, you've pulled it off extremely well here with a great armor mechanic. Your game's gameplay is very well polished and I enjoyed every second of it.

The only thing I would say is that the enemy projectiles were quite difficult to dodge as they were extremely fast (especially the boss) and there wasn't much of a warning when they were about to shoot, making it very easy to lose health early (Which for me kind of takes away from the fun a tiny bit). You can add some very basic telegraphing by having the tank's gun scale right before it shoots as a little warning sign, and then have the bullets a tiny bit easier to dodge (Maybe that's not how these kinds of games work, but I like it when I'm able to avoid taking damage). And, though I understand there was a time constraint, a tutorial would be nice as I forgot some of the controls later.

This was very, very fun to play. I'm hoping it continues to do well in the jam!

Developer

Yea I definitely planned on adding in some animation to the tanks' guns, and I definitely should have modified the enemy projectile to both make it a bit more distinct as well as giving people a better chance to react to it, added to the list of changes if I decide to continue developing out this project. Glad you enjoyed the game, thanks for taking the time to check it out and give such detailed feedback!

Awesome! It inspires me a lot. My game is built on a similar concept :)

I really enjoyed the game, my only suggestion is that if you want to continue development an interactive tutorial would make the game perfect, otherwise it's a great game :)

I think it's cool how the level emerges before each round. Would be cool if you worked it into some kind of procedural generation so the level could change while you are playing... Anyway, nice game! I had fun.

Developer

Yea, each wave of enemies is supposed to have a unique level layout with the boss barely having any cover at all, unfortunately, the build with those varied layouts just barely missed out on being submitted. Thanks for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this. Reasonably polished tank game. Theme connection is there, game is fun. Art/music is good. Not much to be said here, honestly. Wish it was longer, but I'm happy with what it is right now

I like the concept and all my issues were already commented by other people in greater detail than I ever could. But overall pretty good game one thing I did notice however was that there was a small bit of sound not sure if I was imagining things or if the game was just really quiet on my end for some reason. But other than that fun game.

Developer

Haha yes there is indeed sound, but, it is immensely quiet, it seems my audio setup is hypersensitive compared to most people's so when I set the volume levels they were nearly if not completely inaudible to other people, not that you are missing out on much, the sounds were all placeholders to get the systems in place, but, ran out of time to replace them. This is definitely something I'll be working on fixing for future projects.

The game lack some variety and it doesn't really fit the theme, but I really like how the level appears and I LOVE the way enemies tanks parts are being added to your own.

Wow. Definitely a fun game. A bit chaotic and sometimes I didn't know where I was shooting at but it was very fun to scramble to a dead tank just for that shield.

Hey, fun game! First things first, I'm not a fan of text based tutorials. I hate reading, but I love playing. So I recommend letting players experience the tutorial rather than reading it.

Also, I'm not sure if it's just my computer or not, but I tried playing the game in a browser and it froze each time. Sometimes before the level started, sometimes while fighting enemies. Not sure if that's just my machine or the game itself.

I really liked the speed of my projectile. It made it feel good to hit enemies. I also like that you give visual feedback that enemies are hit with a small knockback, good job on that. I think I also would've liked a small flash of red on the enemies or some other visual indicator in addition to the knockback to make it just a little more obvious. I found it got a little hard to see who got knocked back when the tanks were in a crowd sometimes.

I also really liked the death animation and the sense of permanence between levels since the dead tanks stay where you killed them. The particle effects around that were also really cool.

That being said, I didn't care too much for the speed of the enemy tanks' projectiles. They were so fast that I couldn't really dodge them very easily. It made it too hard and my health was too low to do anything meaningful with it. I never made it past wave 2, I think in large part due to this. So, turning the projectile speed down for enemies I think would help make it a little easier.

One final nitpick, I'm not sure how this fits the theme of "join together". But, I had fun, so it doesn't matter too much for me.

Overall, I think you have a fun game here, it just needs a little more feedback and polish for the sake of gamefeel. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Wow thanks for the detailed feeback! Yea the tutorial definitely needs to be replaced for a fuller experience, was a last minute addition for the sake of having "something". I think the freezing may just be your computer as I haven't seen anyone else comment on it, but, something to keep an eye on in the future. More visual and auditory feedback for the game in general would definitely be a focus if I continued development especially as you noted for when there are large crowds of tanks. Changing up how the enemies attack and their projectiles is also probably something to look at, currently they are simply the same as the players.

And finally I'll readily admit it's a looser interpretation of the theme than other more direct entries, you "join together" with defeated enemy tanks to grow stronger, you add them to yourself, borrowing their armor and weapons and as you get damage they break and you lose those additions.

I appreciate you taking the time to play the game and write up all that feedback. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I didn't even realize I could join with enemy tanks. That's really cool, I like that!

Developer(+1)

Ah haha yea that'd probably be why you had such a hard go of it, they give you armor and upgrade your weapons along with allowing you to use defensive abilities such as dodge and shielding, a better tutorial is very much in order XD

Submitted(+1)

This is the kind of concept I absolutely love! It's reminiscent of powerups in Breakout or modern versions of Galaxia. The thrill of being able to combine fallen tanks with mine to powerup my ammunition and other elements is super fun and intuitive. I only find the controls to be a bit difficult, and I think this would be an excellent game to play with a controller. Amazingly fun and addictive. Great job!

Apsolutely love the gaemplay mechanic!
I can imagine the huge things you could expand this to if you were to continue it! Great work! Very smooth gameplay

Submitted(+1)

The mechanic is pretty cool, it's polished, loved it. gj

Submitted(+1)

Very neat concept, and polished execution! I thought that the length was perfect, as it gave me just enough time to learn the mechanics before the awesome bossfight. Great job, 5-starred!

Developer

Wow thanks! Glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

I liked the mechanics! Good difficulty level, just a little short
