Very nice! A cool way to join the past and the present. The writing is very interesting and gives a good imagery.
Thank you for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed the time aspect and writing.
This is a interesting. There is sadly not too much to do and for the most part it was simply go to all possible locations until I find the next part of the story. This in and of itself wasn't bad, I've played more than enough games like that. I was more disappointed I didn't see more changes each time I traveled after making a change. Not sure if I did miss something but eventually the toilet was simply telling me I could travel with it and I didn't seem to be able to do anything more.
Were you able to leave the apartment? And while there's not a lot of specific changes, the two main puzzles of the game do result in some changes in the world that highlight the small ripple effects that occur when meddling with the time. Thank you for playing!
The idea is intriguing, that you would need to bounce between 2 different times in order to solve a problem. It wasn't super obvious what I was supposed to be doing, so I found myself constantly looking at the bowl for guidance. ;)
Thank you for playing! Yeah, I definitely should've made some parts of the game clearer, though I'm glad the toilet bowl was of some help.
Cool game! I liked the story mechanic of going forwards and backwards in time, and the writing was very creative!
Thank you for playing!! I'm glad you enjoyed the writing.
Such a great piece of writing work ! I kinda got stuck in between but then the comment section helped a lot xD. I guess it's the only narrative-based game in this Jam so far. Will you expand this story?
Thank you so much!!! I've stumbled on one or two other narrative games, one other in twine, but they're definitely few and far inbetween. I'm not sure if I'll expand it, but I definitely had more ideas for the concept! Time will tell.
Oh yes, I have checked your previous game as well. It seems really nice. Will play it soon
Nice job! I enjoyed the story telling of this game and the concept of time with the toilet.
Thank you for playing! I appreciate it.
You left a good mental spatial reasoning!
Thank you for playing, and coming back to comment after the stream!
The writing was really good! The story was funny! I wanted to be able to figure out what to do next on my own without the hint, but the hint was a good stand in for limited time! As well, I don't know if I finished it. The game just kind of stopped having progression. I might've broken it? Reply if there's like, an actual ending, so I can come back and see it.
Thank you for playing! There is an actual ending, you need to get both items (scarf and coat) and then go back to the future, there should be a new location to go towards. Let me know if you're able to find it, if you do return to it!
Yay, I got it to work this time! I don't know what happened the first time, but I found the end. Really cute little story!
Yay!! I'm glad to hear it! Thank you again for playing, I really appreciate it!
I liked the writing. My only problem with it was how often I felt like I needed to gaze into the toilet to figure out what to do next.
The idea is pretty cool though! I'd love to revist it with more fleshed out interations between the past and present, so it's easier to stumble upon some things if you missed the hint in the story.
Thank you! We had plans to add an inventory but we didn't have quite enough time, but ideally we could add that post-jam. There were also a couple more puzzle ideas, and I'd love to expand on the toilet's power and the amount of things to find and explore in the apartment. I appreciate you playing and taking the time to comment.
I quite enjoyed this text adventure style of game and the process of exploring around my apartment. The long-winded process of gaining the item that I had lost through the use of time-traveling toilets somehow made me feel sentimental and that I had a personal connection towards that lost item C:
Thank you so much for playing the game, and your nice comment! I definitely aimed for a sentimental feel with the writing, it was a way for me to cope with some things in my life coming to a close recently and I'm really glad to hear that resonated with others.
Several things you may add to improve the narrative:
- Even simple text-based games may require you to be expressive in some ways, in this case you only change color, but I recommend adding text effects, some images indicating which item you are holding, a map to show the next area you can come to.
- The font is too generic, you may use multiple fonts to ease the boredom of reading long text.
- Other than that, the story was fun, with lots of choices (still too little impact, I think you should implement more diverse outcome).
I like books, I like reading, this has reading, I like reading. Fun story, but I'd give some flavour or some reason for the options that result in:"you dont find anything here"
Fun game if you're into text adventures! Haven't seen those in a long time so it's kinda cool to see someone just doing it even though it's not the most popular category! <3
I liked it!
I do have some things to note, but just keep in mind that overall I think it was a good story. I think that the concept was great but it doesn't take advantage of the text adventure format nearly enough. One of the amazing things about text adventures that is part of the whole reason they were so popular IMO is the free-form gameplay. Once you know the base set of commands (move, go, go to, open, pick up, etc) it can become a very immersive genre where you are effectively translating what you would do directly to the game.
Restricting the options to menus reduces that feeling, and automating the player's actions in a railroady way also does. As well, it felt like there was no direction in the narrative if that made sense - I felt the need to keep gazing into the bowl as there was no indicator of what i was supposed to be doing after I had hung up the coat.
At the end of the day, because of those restrictions, it feels like this game would have been REALLY good as a point-and-click graphical adventure in the vein of The Neverhood, Kings Quest or the Monkey Island games, and with a minor hint indicator of what the player needs to do that comes up between actions (when you finish the coat hanging, character should remark about the knitting). It already plays exactly like one but just without the visuals, rather than playing like a traditional text adventure, so giving it those extra features would just push it to another level.
Overall I really enjoyed it though. Don't take this as me being harsh; I give it a 3/5 overall, it's a pretty good adventure game especially provided the limitations of the jam. I just think it crosses genres (text adventure style presentation, point and click style adventure/gameplay) in a way that doesn't really work.
I really liked the mechanic where you can go back to the Toilet Bowl for hints. The only thing I found a bit hard to do, was remembering what items I was currently holding!
Thank you so much for playing!! We weren't able to incorporate an inventory system, but it's definitely something we may add later. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D
This is a word game
Indeed it is!
I love it!
The combination of the time travel mechanic and the vivid, poetic descriptions of the setting makes for genius story telling. I enjoyed exploring the house and seeing what my actions did, however, I did get stuck sometimes, as it wasn't obvious whether or not I was carrying an item I found or not. An inventory or simply a statement that I picked up an item would've helped. Luckily, I could stare into the toilet bowl for hints, which is very useful. The bits of dry humour scattered through the writing was the cherry on top.
Very nice narrative game! I almost always had an idea of what to do, and where to go next. There was just the right amount of exploration, but not too much so that I would get lost. Little things like having the text color be different in the present vs the past were very helpful. I like that the themes were subtle, but definitely there. Great job!
y e s. toilet.
toilet!!!
When I saw the thumbnail I knew I had to play this.
I wasn't mentally prepared for a text-only game though :c
I hope there was still some aspect you enjoyed about the text-only game! <3
