very cool idea, really smart use of assests and some fun puzzles, wish there were a few more levels but better that then wishing there were a few less. smart use of the indicator helped the controls feel more responsive

Developer

I'm really glad you liked it! people wanting more is definitely the best problem to have, We've received tonnes of ideas for new levels and we're thinking about some of our own designs too, more levels and more content are 100% on their way!

Submitted(+1)

Those were some strong magnets :D

Anyway, I like the puzzle box design. If there were some polish for the controls, there could be room to expand the design. Also, very good use of soundscapes.

A beautiful and gentle puzzle, that reminded me of The Room (the game, not the terrible movie) in all the best ways. There could be more explanation for breakable objects and the tabs, but none of that took away from the experience. Loved it! Would love to see this expanded into a full game.

Developer(+1)

YESSS. I'm so glad you referenced the room. I love that game! And it definitely subconsciously inspired me even though I never verbally talked about it with the rest of my team!

I thought the controls were sluggish when I was playing, but now that I see the gifs on your game page I can see that my machine was just running it at like one quarter speed! The gameplay reminded me of those little labyrinth things with the balls which I always loved. The visuals really are beautiful though regardless, even if you used pre-existing art your use of it made it your own thing for sure. Sorry I wasn't able to play this one on stream, but glad I came back to it!

Developer

Im glad you like it even if you couldn't play it! It's running slow on a few people's computers, I think I know some of the culprits but I need to look more into it for a proper fix!

Submitted

I was unfortunately unable to play, as with my build, I would instantly just pass each level right as I loaded in, every time. It looks like a great idea though, and the aesthetic is really nice

Developer

Oh wow! I think i know what caused that! thank's for bringing that to my attention, I never would have noticed

Submitted(+1)

The clank when they finally connect is really satisfying! Very relaxing and pretty game, I really enjoyed it! Going around corners with the blue magnet is a little tough sometimes.

Developer

Haha yeah, i really like the clank too, one of my favourite bits that I coded in, so I ended up mimicking it in the menu buttons too!

THANK YOU FOR SUBMITTING TO MY GOOGLE FORMS STREAM!!!

THE GOOD (what i liked, and what stood out for me):

I love the fact that you used high quality, poly 3d art for the game, it has a nice aesthetic! The game had a mix between lenience and challenge, alongside a display of physics that was generally well thought out. The controls were fluid and makes you feel, i don't know how to put it, "powerful" moving around the magnets!

THE BAD (what i disliked, the bugs, and other problems):

The game ran unbelievably slow for me, at around 3-4 fps, even slower for the first few seconds of game loading, please improve your performance for lower end PC's, since a majority of gamedevs, especially godot users, tend to have lower end pc's. The difficulty curve did ramp quite a bit at some point, but it was generally doable. There was also some Z-fighting but I think that's to do with the fact that im running the game on linux WiNE.

THE HARSH (stuff that would just make the game better, usually just personal opinion, don't take it too heavily :D ):

I think you should have a better made UI and tutorial to help guide users.

OVERALL:  A solid 4,4,5 Amazing job!

Loved it, really nice art and gorgeous music <3

Took me a while to realise that the entrance is the finish line, also there's probably no reason after connecting magnets to go on top. But a fun game, I liked it.

The destruction mechanic also was surprising but this was probably the best moment when I learned that I can interact with stuff. This can be expanded!

The controlls, yeah as few noticed don't work so great, though I didn't have any problems with it. However, I think this would be great game for motion movement mobile game.

Also bare in mind that nowadays people own stuff like ps4/5/steam controllers which have motion controlls build in, so You could made an option to use it (just an idea, its easy to be a smartass now, its difficult to do it in 48h). But maybe an idea for the next time;p

Developer(+1)

All very true! We didn't even consider motion controls so that's definitely something we'll have a look at in the future!
Also yeah I was very close to adding more intractability (namely objects with physics that can be pushed and shoved around) but we have already locked in our level designs and it wasn't worth changing them during the 28 hours, But worry not! I've got some fun level ideas brewing in my head that may come to light later on!

Great game & take on the theme! Although it was challenging to pick up in the beginning, it is a fun experience after some time! Good job & well done :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm really glad you like the game! we could definitely make a better tutorial in the future but we don't wanna make it too easy!

Submitted(+2)

We really like the mechanics for this game! It was an interesting way to think of things and the level design made good use of the mechanics. For improvements I wish the lower plane of the cube was transparent too! Otherwise a super good game!

Developer (1 edit)

Awesome! I'm glad you liked it!! Believe it or not, I was struggling with game ideas, then Kristina (my team member) came up with this one first try!
I was actually considering making more of the bottom plane transparent, just couldn't work out the best way to do that while keeping the aesthetic of mini dioramas. Any ideas would be welcome!

Submitted(+3)

Interesting idea! Took me a while to realize that the blue magnet isn’t supposed to enter the box - I kept trying to push it through the entrance & though it’s a bug. The magnet is also a little hard to move across box edges. Anyways, nice job!

Developer(+1)

Haha, yeah it was a constant struggle working with the edges of the box, hopefully in later versions of the game ill be able to fix that!

Submitted(+2)

Nice idea, though I found the controls a bit hard to control

Developer

Yeah, that's definitely something I want to refine further! I've got ideas to make it more intuitive, just gotta work out how to code them in haha

Submitted(+2)

Super super beautiful. It took me a moment to figure it out, but I loved the magnet puzzle box!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing and commenting on Magnetum! We hope to polish the magnet controls and make more levels after the jam

Submitted(+2)

Awesome idea, looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous, Amazing work all around. would love to see this go further!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed our humble puzzle box game! We hope to further develop and polish Magnetum to make a better overall experience!

Submitted(+2)

This an amazingly unique game, and I'm so excited to see you continue to develop this!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing it, seeing you become immersed in the puzzle and environment was the shot of dopamine needed for the team to continue developing and polishing this game after the jam!

Submitted(+2)

Fun!

(+2)

I really like the concept but the controls were a bit slow and janky for me

Developer

Thank you so much for taking time to play and comment about the game! We'll definitely fix all the kinks with the controls after the game jam

Submitted(+2)

Not so fun but nice interpretation of a topic!

This is a very lovely kind of game. Something that is both pretty and zen like. You definitely can feel there was an emphasis on puzzles, but tbh I think focusing on zen would have been much better. It creates a nice gently kind of game to relax with. And then to implement a couple of obstacles/puzzles to keep the game interesting.

I feel like having both an inside/outside is a good game start, but if you want to expand upon this game then maybe more orientations can be required. Maybe add in ways to stop the magnetic/repel each other and this would a most amazing game.

All in all a very lovely and zen like game with a lot of love on aesthetics. Wish there was more then 2 levels to enjoy.
