Game with simple mechanics that combine to present a challenge. I like the overall premise of the game, the ore collecting is fun and more intuitive. The zombie part is a little less intuitive. There are some instances where killing the zombies near you is impossible and they are too close to the carts to start them moving to kill them. Would love to see this expanded maybe with score and more polish but there is a cool idea here.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! Many people complained about zombies, so I’m going to enable jumps to make it easier to evade them. And the score system is already planned for the game. :-)

Wow such a lovely little game with a real sweet core mechanic! It gets surprisingly stressful when the zombies are all lined up and you're desperately trying to get the cart up to speed. Great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and for the kind words! I was going for this “stressful” but rewarding feeling. :-)

Great game! I think it would be really fun if you had to use up and down in a rhythm to move the carts, instead of just holding down. This would make the carts harder to operate at first, but easier to control once you get the hang of it, and it would help with immersion in the world as well. Different sound effects for the different gems would also be fantastic.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Good idea about different sounds for each gem, I’ll do that!

You actually aren’t the first to propose a similar way to control the carts, I personally like the gradual speed up, but I may add a rhythm game mode!

Submitted(+1)

I like the idea, but I think it could use some more sound effects or general juice stuff, good job!

Developer

Thanks! More sound effects and improvements are coming. ;-)

I like the concept, but I really wanted to mash different buttons by default. I think a remap menu would be a good idea!

Also, I need more gold......

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll try to implement a remap menu!

And there you go! :-)

Submitted(+1)

SO MUCH GOLD!

You should have an endless Gold mode! XD

Submitted(+1)

I really like the concept here! I wish there was a way to jump over zombies to get back to your cart if you get separated from it. I think with a bit more polishing this could be really fun!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing! The jumping is actually already coded in the game, but I never used it during play-testing, so I remapped the Up button to mining. But jumping may be actually useful when your cart is on the edge of the map, so I’ll likely readd it!

Nice game, it's a little slow but I had fun.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

@THEOR wow great concept man I would love to see more progress on this one, one thing I would say it will be good to add some tutorial to make things more clear I was a little confused at first but overall very good game :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! There’s already a tutorial in the development build, it will be released when the uploads are enabled again. ;-)

This is an interesting concept. It is a lot of fun to play and the pixel art is really well done.

Right now all ores are the same. If you continue working on this, you could make it a little more strategic, like giving the ores different properties, rearranging minecarts etc.. I think this game can be expanded in a lot of interesting directions! Good job!

Developer

I’d like to know what properties for ores you have in mind. :-) Different ores were introduced to enrich the gameplay by making player mine them selectively. So, you can’t just spam mine everything (except for the first level), you have to stop your cart and align it with the desired ore.

And thanks for the kind words, I’m glad that you liked my game!

Submitted(+1)

I thought along the lines of having a score system. So maybe some ores fill up a cart faster but are less valuable? Maybe some have to be put into a special cart? Maybe some enemies steal certain ores? But that's only in case you wanted to add mechanics to the game, right now everything makes sense as it is.

Developer

Awesome, thank you! Those are really nice suggestions! I was actually planning to include a score system, so it’s likely that it will end up in the game at some point!

It was a fun game with interesting soudn and art design. I have nejoyed the time I've played the game. However,  I had some frustrating tiems when using th ehook. Maybe implementing a throw hook system would've make the gameplay feel better in my opinion as I've had trouble with clicking the wall itself. Really fun game though, good job!

Developer

I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand, what hook are you referring to? There aren’t any hooks in the game as far as I’m aware. :-D And you don’t need to click the wall to mine an ore, you just press Up while below it.

But anyway, thank you for playing the game (if you didn’t confuse it with some other game) and for the kind words! :-)

That was super fun to play! I loved the little clink sound effect from mining. Th pixel art is amazing . amazing for a jam game. I couldnt stop. But yes as others have noted, the adherence to the theme as a little bit cheeky, Doesn't matter though! you made a great game mate.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing and for the kind words! Is it the sound when mining gold? Because it’s actually the only sound that I recorded myself. I just made it by shaking a bundle with coins. :-)

Submitted(+1)

yes! tht was the one. So cool. I have never done sound effects by myself, but I think that it would be so fun to experiment. Great job on that.

Submitted(+1)

I think you might be stretching the theme of the jam a little bit, but this is a really fun one. Managing your location while keeping enough runway to kill zombies with the train takes a fair amount of thought and was pretty engaging. I’ll definitely play this again in the future!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I’m glad that you found my game fun! I agree that the theme is not the most obvious in it, but I liked the idea of this game so much that I just decided to go with it. :-) Still, the carts are most definitely joined together and the whole game revolves around them. ;-)

Submitted(+1)

thought im cheesing it by driving and mining at the same time but the ore just disappeared

you should make it impossible to mine and drive at the same time and also make the ore drop to the ground or something to be picked up cause i just got softlocked

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Good idea about disabling mining while driving, I’ll do that. EDIT: Just implemented it in the development build! But, unfortunately, I can’t upload it before the voting period ends.

I intentionally made it so ore disappears if you don’t mine it over a cart. This way, you have to align the carts correctly, which is one of the core gameplay mechanics. I did consider that players may run out of ores this way, but if that happens, you can just surrender yourself to the zombies to restart the level. :-)

Submitted(+1)

fun, well thought-out mechanics, I would make the cart a bit shorter I think

Developer

Thank you! By shorter, do you mean make each cart thinner or have less carts (the current maximum is 6, or 4, if exclude draisines)?

Submitted(+1)

oh, make it thinner so that it's easier for the zombies to get you but at the same time it's easier for you to get to the other side of the cart. Also having some mechanic that forces you to leave the cart once in a while would be interesting. I don't know if this would actually help the game, I'm just guessing.

Developer

Good points! Though, if a cart is thinner, it’s harder to align with an ore (which is already pretty hard).

There actually were some plans that involved leaving the cart and doing some platforming, but I had to scale the project down to make it to the jam. It’s still a possibility in the future though!

Thank you for your feedback, it’s duly noted. ;-)

Very fun, very simple, almost addicting gameplay. 5/5/5

Developer

Thank you so much! I’m glad that you enjoyed it. :-)

Submitted(+1)

Really fun gameplay and cool art. Maybe give a bit of the instructions in game. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! For sure, I’ll include an instruction screen when uploads are enabled! For now, you can read some hints on the game page.

Cool

Submitted(+1)

Just a really cool game, nice job!

Developer

Thank you very much!

Submitted(+2)

A cool take on the theme! Definitely needs a tutorial or at least a thorough explanation, took me a while to understand how to move the cart & how to kill zombies. Managed to finish it, though. Great job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! I agree, I really wanted to include a tutorial, but I just barely managed to finish the game as it is.

Submitted(+2)

Good concept, the operation of the cart needs to be explained. Took me forever to figure out how to move it.

Developer

Sorry about that! I was planning to include a tutorial screen, but ran out of time.

Submitted(+1)

All good, most games don't have them this early. But controls in the description would be good.

Developer

Already done! ;-) I was really worrying that Itch wouldn’t let me upload the builds of the game (due to the terrible slowdowns before the end of the jam), but now that they are all up, I can spend more time polishing the game page.
