How does your game fit the theme?
It's like Snake, except you play as the Pellet. Additionally, the role of the snake as an enemy and friend are reversed, as not only is it a threat, but it is also your only defense against other enemies.

When I first learned the topic for the game jam one of the first things I thought about was reversing a bunch of classic arcade games. Snake was definitely not one of them, but I’m glad someone thought of it because this is a great little concept that goes beyond just being a mere novelty thanks to some really clever design. I love how the snake is a constant source of danger, but also your only tool for getting rid of the bugs which also pose a big threat to your life. Really solid submission that definitely deserves some love. Also, well done getting this done in only 11 hours, if I’m understanding the submission time right? That’s some seriously impressive dev speed!
Haha, I wish I could finish this in just 11 hours. Itch reports the time of your first upload, not the final one. I put up my first build of the game on Friday just to make sure I was exporting it correctly, then updated it closer to the deadline. I was tweaking right up until the final minutes. :)
Thanks for the comment!
Ah, that definitely makes sense. That’s a good strategy and one that I’m sure would have saved a lot of devs (myself included) from some last-minute panic.
Cheers!
The idea was pretty simple but the implementation is so good! All of the different bugs as more obstacles to dodge made the game increasingly interesting and difficult. I especially love how the "main antagonist" is instead used and directed by the player to eliminate all of the bugs. This was a really fun game, although I don't think I did very well at it I kept dying soon after multiple snakes were introduced.
Very addictive! Super fun!
Brilliant idea, good art style, nice sounds. Great job. I think after the jam you can add a feature to make the enemies kill each other or make the snake bite itself.
Great job!
Nice job! The game looks, sounds, and feels great. I think a game that did the basics of reverse-snake would have been fun, but adding the extra layers of depth of other bugs you have to deal with or avoid really made this one something special. Great work!
Neat concept with a solid implementation! I especially liked the scale up in difficulty over time. Nicely done!
This was an engaging one! The different hazard types and luring the snake to them was a really cool implementation.
Cool concept, gets really challenging when you get to the further levels :D
Really well done, the pace of the level ups was perfect and each new mechanic was new and fun in a different way. Really enjoyed!
This is too good. I could spend hours on this game. I will come back to play more later for sure lol.
This is such a cool idea! It's so much more fun than those other "snake, but you are the apple" games because you get to actually use the snake to try and smash the bugs! The music and art are just nice bonuses on top of the already high-quality game. (The amount of polish you put in is also pretty cool!).
Enjoyed playing this one, well balanced bullet hell that has some creative ideas aswell.
One of the better reverse snakes; incredibly polished too
I'm a little back and forth but I think I may have found my second all categories 5/5 game with this one? I really like the bullet hell approach. The speed of the pellet feels just right. It feels easy to control and fair when you lose.
I personally believe that creativity encompasses way more than just the concept- it should also factor how that concept was executed. And, seeing as almost every new level adds a new, creative twist to its formula, I'd say this game is very creative. It paces new ideas really well, as difficult as they may be. And, for me, they were very difficult lol.
This game was also presented really well. Everything was polished and looked/felt good. I'm a little back and forth on the snake's move sound effect though because it's bass-y nature and quietness kind of made it feel like background noise. That's good because a sound effect that plays that often shouldn't be too distracting or take up that much attention but it also feels so in the background that at first I couldn't even tell if it was a sound effect, part of the music, or just something else. Very nitpicky, I know. There's just not a lot to complain about in this game.
I personally found it very difficult- I guess that's one thing. I only got past level 8 once or twice (3676 points, let's go!) and that's unfortunate because I did want to see the cool thing at level 15 lol. Although difficulty is just a natural thing that will range from game to game, it's not technically a flaw. But I do think the difficulty curve rises very quickly at lvl 8. I'll definitely keep this game on the back-burner and revisit it later to see if I can get to the fabled level 15.
Some other quick little things I liked: Choosing your own music. It felt like such an extra nicety that I wouldn't have expected it in a game made in a 48 hour jam, but it is really cool to have your own radio, especially in a game that you'll be spending a bit of time in because of its difficulty. The little blurbs at the start of each level. They're short enough to comprehend without taking away from the level, but they add a lot of helpful information- enough to remove the need for a tutorial screen. Smart game design! The small things like not being killed by a snake if you're touching its body and not its mouth or how the bullets don't go through the snake- and the tip screen that explains these things when you die! Gives you a little knowledge so you can go into the next round more confident.
I guess I really gave an essay on this one... Hopefully that goes to show you how much I appreciate your hard work on this! Good job and good luck with the jam results! I think your game has a good chance of going far! :)
You did write an essay, but it's like one of the few ted-talks that I actually like listening to, lol.
glad to hear lmao
This is a really well polished game. I like that you're able to get rid of the enemies with the snakes, it adds another level of problem solving that really makes this game stand out. I think the level ramp up could be a bit faster, but it's still a really fun game!
Super cool game! One of the best reverse Snake games I've ever played!
Insanely addictive, there must be something in the pellets
This game is really great and really fleshed out! There's a lot of strategy involved with the increasing intensity and mechanics, it's really neat to see Snake turned into a bullet hell! I also liked that you gave different music listening choices.
The mechanics are really cool, I like that you put a unique twist on reverse snake and added your own challenges to it, very simple concept but a little bit difficult at times!
The pacing at which things progressively unlocked was a bit overwhelming but also quite fun!
Such a polished submission, its so fun to see how much life you managed to bring into this game through the different mechanics! The difficulty scale is also very nice. Honestly, one of the best games I've played in the jam so far, wish I played it sooner lol. Really can't find anything constructive to say, top marks.
