I like the idea of playing as the pokemon, but gameplay felt a little simple. Definitely understandable for the short time period we had. Cool concept and I could see this being expanded into a great game.
really fun and get the point of the topic
i am the pokemon el chapo and i got put in jail
they style and music sooooo good. Good luck i think this has a solid chance of being in top 10
A very solid entry, the game is beautiful and cute, the music matches the theme and brings me pokemon red/blue memories, good job :-D
Clean visual and pleasing music. Cute!
Took me a short time to notice the arrow, sooo would be nice if it is a little more noticeable. (though possible that it is just me) (p.s. nvm, I just read the description xD) (p.s. update the description, it's 5 days noww)
Also I found a little bug (probably?), if you face a wall and try to move in the direction of the wall, the turn isn't counted but the trainers still move.
Overall, very well-managed game within 48 hours! Nice balance between art, sound, and design!
Thank you for checking out!
I planned to have the trainers' sprite turn to the direction they're facing in the next round instead, but there wasn't enough time for me (because I'm a pixel art noobie TwT) so I went with the arrow instead. I will improve that later for sure.
Yep, you're completely right about the bug; that's not supposed to happen lol. I just didn't think of that case before. Nice catch!
Thank you again for a very informative feedback!
it remembers me from pokemon but you control the pokemon, it matches the theme, it's really polished, but it's hard to think where the human will go after, but overall well done! Can you also play my game so I can get feedbacks!
Glad you enjoyed the game! I will improve on the enemy direction signaling for sure since a handful of people does struggle about that.
I'll check out your game as well!
Very neat game with a cool twist on the theme! I love the retro art style and the cute animations. I feel like it could be a tad more complex / harder though, it is easy to master the gameplay :) Very fitting music as well! Good luck in the jam
Thank you for playing! I agree with that suggestion as well. I'll see what I can do post-jam.
Good luck with your jam as well!
Loved the screen effects to make it feel retro, very loop hero esc.
Fun little puzzle game, great job!
Thank you so much!
A fun concept and it really make me see the perspective for all those pokemons I fought while exp farming!😆
Thank you for checking the game out! Those monsters really had it hard XD
The game is really fun! I love the idea of being a grassmon. Hope there are some obstacles in the level so I can use them to run away lol
I'm glad you had fun! I agree with that suggestion. I did plan to add some tasks for Grassmon to have some evading moves like throwing distraction rocks as well. Sadly, the time ran out first, haha.
awh was I on the last day? nearly earned my freedom. Really like the effect you used to make the screen look retro, even the border that makes it look like the screen is curved. And loved the theme you went with! I'm such a sucker for pokemon, and I thought it was super cute! Nice work :D
You were almost there! Thank you very much for playing, and I'm glad you liked the visual!
Very cute game.
I think it could benefit from having some indicator of where trainers are going to spawn in the next round.
Ohh, that is a great idea! I'm adding that to the post-jam plan right away.
It’s a very fun game. I would have liked to explore more areas.
Thank you for playing! That suggestion is very interesting, I'll add that to the plan!
I liked the game! Easy to understand and play. I think the game could have benefited from some extra fun things like a distraction mechanic to influence the trainers, but overal, great job!
Thank you so much!
I did have an idea to throw rocks on the other grids to distract the trainers as well (the main reason why I added the mouse-highlight-grid system), but couldn't get to it in time. I will try to implement that post-jam!
Cool idea; I would have liked to have seen more mechanics, as you mention in the description. It feels like there could be interesting things you can do; e.g. have a legit pokemon-esque battle system where you level and eventually go destroy the town or something.
I tried my best to find pro strats, but I could never make it past Day 4. It was quite difficult to understand where the trainers are walking; having a lerped movement rather than just an instant move might have been helpful in making their patterns a bit more understandable.
Oh, and there was a level that went up as you encountered trainers; is that just cosmetic? I couldn't figure out what it did, if anything.
Also, I loved the swarms of trainers running around aimlessly for this one grassmon.
Thank you very much for checking out!
I planned the food-exp system, which can heal health and add exp to level up, as well as the leveling system where you can "attempt" to fight back. Though both plans didn't come through, so that's why there is some stuff left over. Level as of now only tracks the amount of trainers you killed haha.
There actually are small pixel arrows on the trainers' bodies that indicate which way each will move on the following round. Using that, you can plan the path step by step and complete the game.
