Mechanics go quite deep actually, and interacting with the cards is very satisfying!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad it the game feel worked for you!

Submitted

Ok this is COOL - great idea, love the theme interpration. Great art.

Developer

Thank you so much! Turns out you can do a lot with multi-coloured squares.

Submitted

Very interesting. Great Job!

Nice visual :)

This was really fun! I think some icons to track conditions like "broken arm" and "throat infection", sort of how "best buddies" have a line between them to help you remember. Overall great game and great work!

Developer

Thank you! Definitely a good shout. Glad you enjoyed!

Really Cool UI and sleek animations

Submitted

Really slick UI, I think the animations are really smooth, sound works really well with the theme of the game and I like the dynamics that form between the cast, such as two characters becoming close friends. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The animations and sfx took a lot of fiddling to get right. Glad you enjoyed the story telling side as well.

Really fun, I really liked the references to existing shows/musicals. I did find it hard to understand what was influencing the audience opinion though.

Developer

Thank you! Was fun making that list.

I wanted to make it so you couldn't brute force your way to an optimum approval rating, but I definitely agree that it's not very clear how the cast and associated roles impact the audience's opinion.

Me: Welcome to the audition for 12 Angry Men, you are a 20 years old man.
50 years old actress: what
Me: I SAID YOU ARE A 20 YEARS OLD MAN SO SHUT UP

Also, all of these people have osteoporosis.

Alright, actual review. I got to Year 20 with no end in sight, the game is definitely on the easier side of things.

  • Ideally for strategy game like this, I would like to see the stats on everything. Like for example, how much penalty does an age gap of 20 years compared to a man playing a woman? Or, the before/after stats comparison for reconceptualize, etc. Stats like these would make the decision-making process much more strategic.
  • I LOVED the random events, but them being separated from the card scene makes it really hard to tell what is actually happening to who. I would prefer say for example, when someone broke their bones for the 500th times their card gray out, a retired actor card slowly slide off the screen, a friendship forms as the green line fate in etc in the card scene. Of course you would still need the description for it.
  • One thing that probably shouldn't be random is the hiring/firing of people. I'm ok with people randomly dropping out (somewhat), but being able to hire new people should probably be in the player's control, especially since everyone ages so I have to force a bunch of boomers act as teenager (hence the joke at the beginning).
  • The friend/foes system is great, but I think you can make it even more crazier but having everyone have some relationships to everyone: friend/foe/neutral etc which changes depending on how much they worked together.
Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed! Balance was one of the thing I was worried about - hard to perfect in 48 hours. I agree that it would be nice to give the player more information on how interactions work. I love the rest of the ideas you've given!

Submitted

Quite fun, I like how there's random events at the end of the year to spice the game up. Keep it up!

Submitted

Agreed! I like that the actors have agency and things happen to them that affect your decisions in the game.

Cool and unique idea!

Fascinating concept. The mechanics end up creating a pretty interesting sim/deck builder hybrid. Could maybe use a little more feedback on the choices that are made, but still a very clever use of the theme with a lot of potential. Great job :)

Developer

Thank you so much! Definitely agree about feedback -  doing so without making it possible to brute force an optimal solution was hard, but agree that more is needed. Glad you enjoyed!

Surprising amount of depth here, I didn't expect to be knowing my casts names by the end of it but here we are!

Developer

Thank you! Accidentally turned into a life simulation by the end. Glad you enjoyed!

Submitted

I didn't think I'd spend so much time on this game, but I did! I felt like I got to know each member and the drama between them. The names were a little hard to track at first, but the recurring cast members in the later years were very memorable to me! Congrats on this wonderful game!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad I captured that feeling of getting to know your cast as if they were people for you.

I liked the stories that started to emerge from the role playing as the years went on. I think it could be a little better if after the show it was more clear how happy/mad people and the audience got.

Developer

I'm glad you appreciate it! Definitely agree about needing more feedback, but its great to know the stories emerge well.

Submitted

This game is so cute, so well polished, and really well thought out! With some sort of pixel art of the characters interacting or some other way to really humanize the characters other than just their names and stats, I think I absolutely would start to tell more emergent stories about these characters. The little cards that tell what are happening between the everyone are charming, and overall I had a good time. Nicely done.

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed! It would be so nice to see the character and watch them grow with the company too. Great idea!

Submitted

Great game! I like how complex the relationships between the characters becomes; it almost feels like a story.

Developer

Guess my strategy game Reversed Roles into a story telling experience - Glad you enjoyed!

Submitted

I loved my two actors who were friends, and then they split up??? Devastating. Great work!

Developer

Accidentally had my Strategy Game reverse roles into a Story Telling Game. So glad you enjoyed!

Nice idea

Such a neat idea! really loved the concept, tickled the brain in the best way

Developer

Thank you! So glad you got that brain tickle from Audition, exactly the feeling I was aiming for!
