Definitely better jumping puzzle than mine :) Really loved the art
Thank you for playing! Did you have any suggestions?
Not sure if it was just me but I felt the controls for a direction were a bit random, wasn't sure what made the fish fly off left or right, but I get that can be part off the mechanics.
Beautiful. Has no right to be as fun as it is
Thank you so much, did you have any suggestions?
The music is the biggest thing that sticks out to me. I'm not sure what I'd prefer but it doesn't feel quite right. The sound effects for the fish could be a little fishier too, I think. It'd be easy to ask for more control or just a little bit easier obstacles but it's a delicate balance to mess with. Maybe if you could flop a bit while mid-air? Not enough to constitute actual air-controls but just something to give the player one more bit of agency or way to add chaos into the system.
I think one of the (many) cool things about a game like Getting Over It is that some sections require a pretty specific , usually hard to accomplish, approach, but some sections are also pretty open and let you do them in at least a couple of different ways. That's going to be harder to accomplish when you only have 1 button's worth of input compared to GOI's mouse controls, but I think the way the level is designed has a big impact, irrespective of the character controls. Those first few obstacles have such a prescribed, rigid solution, so much so that they're drawn on the screen, which then takes away the fun of getting to figure out *how* to do them and only leaves the (not insignificant or unfun) challenge of *doing* them. In fairness though, I haven't finished the game as it really is very hard.
Oh, I also greatly dislike that you respawn at chip points with velocity. I would prefer to just spawn on top of the point with 0 velocity.
Really though as an idea it's perfect. And the art is all spot on too.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I agree completely that the music doesn't really fit - I was just trying to follow Mark's suggestion and there wasn't really much choice available to meet that criteria: imgur.com/a/nXAwZlj
What sort of sounds would make it sound fishier? It's already like a wet slappy sound.
A bit of air control could be interesting, I agree. Perhaps some sort of double jump mechanic?
The first few obstacles actually have many solutions! But it's really hard to figure them out so I put a hint for 1 because otherwise people just won't play the game.
I'm really glad you liked the art style :)
That was fun and charming! Good work!
how the hell did you manage that you fish jumping maniac
I thought the same thing! How is that possible. I jumped over 600x
Wow that’s an impressive time! Thanks for playing, did you have any suggestions?
i love the visual and the gameplay a bit like getting over it pretty everything feel great maybe I’m just trash but it a bit hard for me but I can understand why so gl for the competition
Thanks! Yes I can see the resemblance to “getting over it”.

It's really annoying when you accidentally make a large jump the wrong way. Good game. I like the bragging rights message XD
Thanks! Yes please do brag. Did you have any suggestions?
Hmm…
The background was a little busy with the ocean foam widening and shrinking as fast as it did. You could slow that down or change how it looks in another way.
Predators. I thought the birds on the beach we’re going to eat me! Maybe if you land on them they push you backwards a bit. Or there’s a seagull that dive bombs you periodically. That you be frustrating :).
A scale up powerup where you have to fit through a tight space could be cool. Perhaps you visit an apartment building next and have to climb through its vents! (Cat for predator in this level?)
Thanks! Those are some awesome ideas! I was actually going to have a bird that pecked you in the nest right next to the end, but I ran out of time.
I never thought of a cat but that would make the perfect enemy!
I like the duct idea as well!
Do you have any other ideas?
I love the visuals, and have always enjoyed this style of "jank gameplay"
Yesss jank is exactly what I was going for with this. Did you have any suggestions?
Nice challenging game. I Love like you move with just space and you need to land correctly to go where you want.
I’m glad you liked it, did you have any suggestions?
It is quite hard to controll. I'm not the the type for rage games, if that is what you were going for.
The core concept and the art art interesting though. Thank you for your submission!
Not so much a rage game due to the checkpoints and cheats! But yes sort of.
Did you have any suggestions?
It's a bit hard for me but I really like the attention to detail, like having save points so I don't feel terribly frustrated. I also like the visuals, very enjoyable for a 48h game!
Thank you very much! Did you have any suggestions?
I hope there can be an easier way to control the direction of the fish a bit, or that the minimum jump can be a bit smaller:)
Thank you for the suggestions, I think most people are asking for this also
The game seems hard at first but it isn't that hard when you get the grip of it. I noticed that you can get an incredible speed if you jump on a ledge the right way. If you want to continue the game you could maybe use that and make somewhere a gap where you need to get a huge momentum. Also, I got a little insignificant glitch where I find myself flying really high in the air
Overall it's a nice little game
Thanks for playing! You’re right, if you can time it ok you can definitely gather quite some speed. Where was the part that glitched you btw?
Also did you have any other suggestions?
It's a little short :\
But I had fun!
Did you reach the end?
Fun little rage game. Although, I ended up using a cheat towards the end :) When respawning at a chip I wish it was accurately placing the fish. The art was nice.
Thanks for playing, I’m so glad you liked the art! Did you have any suggestions?
Enjoyment ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Solid gameplay. I liked the little guides that appeared, saved it from being too frustrating by giving you a clear goal.
Creativity ⭐⭐⭐
The theme interpretation is a bit more word-play than actual gameplay, and I'm biased against that I admit. Still, I appreciate that you took the word-play so far, and there is at least one size element!
Style ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Really good job! Satisfying sounds and animations; pleasant music; cute and funny visuals. Has a great vibe.
Thanks for playing, though I’m a bit confused about your rating regarding the theme. The theme is implemented 4x but you’ve mentioned only 1 (the smallest part).
It’s a direct implementation of a theme suggested by Mark Brown himself.
I get the play on words, but I think the theme "Built to Scale" as he described it in the video, is about size. Anyway yours was the first game I reviewed this year so I was a little harsh in retrospect. I'll update my review since you took the time to reply. Your game is really good, I'd love to hear your thoughts on mine! 🐟
Thank you very much for updating your review! Btw when I said it was Mark Brown's idea, I literally meant that this game was his suggestion on the Discord! imgur.com/a/nXAwZlj
Fun game, love the alternate take on the theme, only criticism I have is that you can get a bad chip point position and get stuck going back to start every time you reset.
Thanks for playing, you’re right! Though I’m not really sure what the best approach for solving that would be? I tried making the collision box smaller but then sometimes you miss it entirely. Do you have any suggestions? (About chip points or the game over all?)
Super unique take on the theme! A well implemented, if frustratingly difficult, core movement mechanic. Reminds me of Getting Over It. Love the art and animations! I got stuck after the second checkpoint, though. I would love to see a way to swap the fish's direction without needing to jump. It feels too frustrating when you get onto a little ledge, but are facing the wrong direction, so you just have to jump back down. But overall, really great work!
Thank you very much for playing, so glad you liked the art.
If I made it so you could swap the fish direction without jumping, that would defeat the purpose of the game lol (but if you enable cheats, you can do exactly that, using WASD!). Did you have any other suggestions?
I'll have to check out "Getting over it"
Maybe you can add a little meter to show how much force your press is adding, so that it can be a little easier to duplicate your inputs?
That’s a cool idea! I like it
Fun, but
infuriating.
Good job!
Thanks for playing, I added the checkpoints (and also cheats) so it wouldn't be too infuriating! Did you have any suggestions?
No, but checkpoints and cheats were very good call actually.
Haha I know you have to make it as accessible as possible for jams
Incredibly fun idea and amazing vibes. Especially the ocean sounds in the background did wonders.
The controls were a bit too hard for me though. Didn't really get that far sadly.
No worries, thanks for playing! Glad you liked the ocean effects! Did you have any suggestions?
This was really fun to play once you get the hang of the controls and the movement of the fish! Hahaha it's a very fun and funny game
