How does your game fit the theme?
It's a grid based puzzle game about cats that can scale in size. I was worried it didn't quite fit the theme so I also made it so they scale a mountain ๐Ÿ˜…

I need an undo button ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Amazing level design. Cute sprites. Loved it. It did take me an embarrassing amount of time to complete level 2 because I didn't realize I could move when stretched.

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you liked it ๐Ÿ˜

And thanks for the feedback, I definitely wanted to add an undo button but ran out of time and I may add that you can move while stretched to the tutorial

Admittedly I'm a bit of a puzzle game hater. I feel a lot of them are too simplistic and played out. If you can solve the puzzle by sight then just have to go through busy work to execute it without experimenting, that drives me crazy.

This game, however, nails it. So fun. Really clever puzzles. The best cat stretching game I've played this jam and I have played more than one.

Just a minor thing, I did have a bit of difficulty with the controls. I would maybe make space a toggle instead of a hold.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

And thanks for the feedback, if I continue the game I definitely need to rethink the controls a bit since some other people had minor issues as well. I'll keep toggling stretching in mind ๐Ÿ˜

I love this game, genuinely, the only thing I would add is an undo, more levels , and a tad more attention to the UI, but this game is my personal fav of the jam games ive played thus far

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you really liked it ๐Ÿ˜

I unfortunately ran out of time to finish implementing the undo button or improving menus, but I'm happy to hear you liked the levels I have!

Submitted(+1)

in a previous game I had made an undo button and from the amount of undistilled agony it brought me trying to make it without googling, i would have been tremendously impressed if someone made a game with it in 4 days

Developer

I made a transaction system that stores changes so it shouldn't be a nightmare to add in, I just didn't have enough time to walk it back

I'll probably leave it as-is for the jam page as I'll probably just do some minor fixes once voting is over, but if I decide in the future to continue the game there will definitely be an undo button

Submitted(+1)

if i were to make one again, I would probably save the state of the game after each input than save each input, that theoretically would have solved many of my problems. it may or may not help depending on the game, but hopefully this advice is helpful

Developer (5 edits)

That would certainly work, but a transaction system would probably be a lot less memory. I'm actually saving the results rather than the inputs.  Something like a player moved 1 unit right and 3 units down and died, or a box moved one unit left

As you said it depends on the game so the full level state should be fine for a lot of cases

The game is really great ! Quite hard at first but once you get your hand on the mecanics and possibilities it becomes easier, keep up the good work !!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for giving it a try, glad you enjoyed it ๐Ÿ˜

Ok so this dope puzzle game the way you kinda have to think about how the mechanics work with one another especially since the king never has the same about amount of movement is very cool nice game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Having different amounts of stretchyness for each level definitely helped to add more potential for puzzles

Love the cats, they are adorable.  I really enjoyed the puzzles!

Developer

Thanks! I'm definitely glad with how the cats turned out and I'm happy you enjoyed the game!

I like the music and I think it fits the theme very well. I found the puzzles engaging and I love the pixel art cats, super cute!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it ๐Ÿ˜

This is really good! Great puzzles. It was sometimes a bit hard to see which cat was active, especially when standing on top of each other. Really nice pixel art, very clear what everything is. This might be one of the most theme fitting games, both scaling cats and scaling mountains :)

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! Was the issue  that the arrow could get hidden behind another cat, or was it hard to tell which cat it was pointing to? I plan on upping the render priority for the arrow post-jam. If the arrow getting hidden isn't the issue I can try to come up with another way to visualize which is active.  I know Snakebird had the other birds sleeping when inactive so maybe I can do something like that if needed ๐Ÿค”

Submitted(+1)

A bit of both. Sometimes it is behind, which is definitely an issue. But even if it's in front, it can be a bit hard to see for a couple of reasons.

The arrow has a white outline, and a some cats have a lot of white on them, so it blends a bit.

The arrow points to the head, and when you have a bunch of long cats entangled it gets a bit confusing which parts actually belong to the active cat.

The clearest for me I think would be to change outline of the entire cat, or something like that.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure if I want to change the outline for the cats but it's something I can consider

Really nice puzzle game, good job!

The cat-themed puzzles were adorable, and the gameplay was smooth and enjoyable. It's a quirky and delightful game — great job!

The art is awesome! The snake mechanic is cool. The puzzles are clever. Awesome job!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to make the snake mechanic in time but I'm glad I managed to pull it off

Amazing puzzle game with great levels and polish, good job

Developer(+1)

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Woah! The concept here is really cool, I've never seen anything like it. Good job with the pixel art too, the game feels very polished and well made. Great job!

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! As for games like it, it's sort of inspired by Snakebird but it definitely plays a lot different than it
