Great. Loved the graphics and the interactions. I never figure out if there is really an strategy to win, but that short of random behavior makes it perfect for a Jam. I found myself trying again and again because i don't want to loose.
Amazingly polished, well done team! No point in echoing the other comments but I do hope you continue the game, with some more/actual strategy and difficulty progression it could be great fun! Rock, paper, scissors I think is a game every kid learns, so you've got people's attention immediately. :)
Great game! I am really impressed by the care taken to make everything so polished, from graphics and animations and even on the itch.io webpage. You guys go above and beyond!
No you're crying!
Thanks so much for your kind words. Very glad you enjoyed the game! We definitely try to put as much love and elbow grease into every game we make. Comments like this make it so very worth it!
Great job gang! I had a lot of fun; as a mythology fan, this was right up my alley. Really like the effort that you put into the originality, and the graphics! :)
That is high praise for someone invested in mythology! Thank you so much for playing the game! We definitely tried our best to keep true to the gods we decided to add to the game. We did have an idea of adding elements connected to what kind of god it was. For example Poseidon would be water, Hades fire and so on. But we really wanted the game we put out to feel polished (I'm glad you liked the graphics!), so we decided to not add the elements. But who knows, we might give it a little update in the future :)
Poseidon is my spirit animal, so many puns, loved it!
Thanks for playing the game! I'm glad you liked it! :D
A great way to merge to genres together! Congrats to the team.
Looks great, love the gods. The randomness fits the theme well, who said that it would be easy to beat gods at a game of chance, haha.
(and by the way, thanks for the source code, I will certainly use your github workflow script in my next project!)
Bahaha, yeah, secretly there is no random, we just let the gods do what gods going to do! They are pure chaotic after all.
So glad that you liked it! Thanks for playing.
Oh no problem! Definitely important as a community to share ideas and implementations, it's how I found a lot of my habits now. Also the CI makes things sooo good! Just make sure your final push is outside the last 10 minutes of the jam to be safe. We had a push 2 minutes before to fix a breaking bug and it ran longer than it usually does and didn't make it before cut off. Thankfully we have awesome event runners and they were able to accommodate, but it isn't the way you want to wind down for a jam, that's for sure.
Absolutely fantastic art, well done! The music and the theme were great too. The gameplay feels a little bit too random but what can I expect with rock-paper-scissors? Overall it is very polished, the only thing I feel like is missing is a full-screen toggle unless I missed it somewhere haha. The theming of the game page is top-notch too, and the instructions section is thorough yet easy to understand. I hope you’re all very happy with what you’ve put together. :D
Haha, yeah. Who knew it would be tough to make Rock Paper Scissors fun, competitive, and not brutally random. Definitely been some great discussions here and in our private messages since the jam. Some lessons learned for sure.
But importantly, thank you so much for playing and all of your awesome feedback. We put a lot of love, sweat, and maybe a few tears (css isn't how I remembered it) into getting this to where it is!
Glad the instructions were easy to follow and understand. Would have loved to make an interactive tutorial, but surprisingly 9 days isn't a lot of time.
Thanks again for playing!
Also thanks for pointing out the full-screen. I must have missed it when making the page. Fixed that up now.
WOW this is such a creative spin on deck builders and rock, paper scissors! The graphics on this game are really eye catching. Really fun game.
Thank you, thank you! That is so lovely to hear.
I'm definitely really excited about the idea of making paper scissors rock a competitive game, haha. There are definitely a lot of ways that this could go to make it more fun as a long term game.
Watch this space? ;p
Really impressive aesthetically for a jam! I kind of echo what everyone else said about the core mechanic feeling a little too random. I counted cards (or runes?) which helped a little. Also was unsure if there was actually any difference between any of the gods or if every one had the same deck and same logic for choosing runes? Great job regardless!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for playing!
There were a few gods that had slightly different decks, they start showing up after the first victory I believe. But for the rest of them, they are using the same pattern for choosing. I think that it would have definitely been a simple addition to make it so certain gods favour runes higher, that would then add some strategy through learning their likes and wouldn't have been too much more to add in.
Ah well, I can definitely chalk that one up to a jam lesson learned!
Thanks again for the feedback :D
Nice job, it feels very polished and I like the presentation! I agree there is a little too much randomness in the gameplay and tweaking this / adding another element would go a long way. I like the colours used, and the sound design helps the atmosphere quite a bit.
Thanks so much for playing. Sounds like you enjoyed it :D
It was definitely something we fought with as how to remove some element of randomness. I think if we take this any further, we will add powers that will influence the game play. Like being able to swap a ruin out at the last minute, or see what your opponent is placing down.
Ideally each of the gods would have a power that you can collect as you defeat them. Obviously this wasn't super achievable given the scope of the jam, but still fun to think about given all the comments!
Bit random as to who wins or am I missing something?
Loved the graphics - especially that main menu screen
There is mild strategy through each player having 3 of each type, meaning you can essentially count cards to try stack it in your favour. But there is for sure too much random. We had plans for another system to help with this, but time got in the way of being able to get it working.
Really glad you enjoyed the graphics too!
Nice way of doing rock paper scissors like the graphics.
Thanks for saying that! We put a lot of effort into making it look good, so glad it was appreciated 😁
Fun take on Rock, Paper, Scissors! Enjoyed the overall asthetic too!
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the twist we put on this ancient classic 😜
I liked the graphics but felt that the gameplay was lacking. Whether you win or lose is purely up to the random number generartor.
Thanks for playing!
Totally get you on that. There is a basic level of strategy to help guide some of the play in having 3 of each type per deck, but it does indeed need more. We were wanting to add elements that the gods would grant to the runes as you won against them, but sadly time meant we didn’t get to it!
Hope you still had some fun!
Incredible presentation! Insane amount of polish for a 9 day jam
Thanks for saying so! It was high on our list of things to get done, so glad it was appreciated :)
Thanks so much. We tried really hard to make everything feel nice and put together.
Hope you had fun!
