Wow, lovely visuals and beautiful story - I wasn’t expecting to have all these feels while playing jam games!! The controls felt pretty good, and the game had a handful of challenges leading up to the final battle. Once I got the hang of it, the first half of the boss fight was not too bad but I struggled before eventually beating the second half!

Would have loved some retro sound effects/music to go with this game, but honestly that was one of the only things that I felt was missing. I like that you even included a little self-reference to the short length of the game - with a bit longer levels I think this would make a great full-fledged arcade game in its own right.

Congratulations on the great entry!

Great art style.  Touching story.  Nice feel.

I, for one, loved the warp effect.  Retro feel was awesome. Minimalist art style very well done. Controls felt pretty tight for platforming, but not great for the boss fight.  Not sure if that was intentional, but the inability to turn around in the air rendered 90% of the final stage unusable.  It was frustrating to figure that out...but it was a pretty awesome feeling defeating the wizard, so bravo.

The art is cool, while simple it really fits the atmosphere. I liked the warped screen, reminded me of good ol' screens, it was a nice detail. An undertale-like music would have made it incredible. I was honestly amazed by how good the controls reply, it's just too bad that there was no tutorial screen at all in game to tell you what keys to use, and you have to read the game description instead.
I kind of suck at platformers though, so I was stucked in the room with the kind of big eyes that shoot projectiles at you. While it's great that there is a checkpoint here (I could try multiple times), I found it quite unfair that the projectiles go through the plateforms, cuz the only time I managed to not land on the spikes I got killed by a projectile from under the plateform.
Though, I had quite fun exploring the cave and testing stuff, and my awful level at plateformers is not a real criteria :D great job :3

I had lots of fun, and I have to agree, that wizard is BS unfair!

Well done!

Really cool metroidvania, the level design works really well. It looks like you can grab the sword and the dash in any order, wich i really like.
Congrats again on the level design.

Fun little metroidvania! The art style reminds me of VVVVVV. The shader on top makes it all fit together. I agree with others, camera regions seem to overlap with creates some confusion, and some nice audio would give more life to the experience.

Even though I’m absolutely not a 2d person, I was still very attracted to the game. Really cute entry! I like the ears while jumping. Always cool if the player reacts to input. Can’t really add anything which has not been mentioned before, great story, very nice and fitting graphics and an interesting story! Only improvements I see is a slightly camera Transition on some spots and as others mentioned sad that this one got no sounds and music. Really good job!

Apparently I needed to cry today, thanks.

This managed to do a lot with what appeared like very little on the surface. +1 that SFX and music would really elevate this. I thought the pairing of the nostalgic gameplay with the story and theme was really, really good. Congrats on this!

okay, i'm literally astonished. loved it. the boss was hard, it took me quite a few tries but i eventually got it. the ending definitely brought a tear to my eye. as was mentioned already, audio would've pushed game that much further, but even without it i thought it was amazing. congrats!

Really awesome game. Loved the mechanics. I got to the boss, but I couldn't beat the wizard. I really want to know the ending so I might have to come back and try again. The cut scenes were so captivating. Great entry!

try this: Stay grounded as much as possible. You're invincible for a little bit when you dash...use that a lot.  Don't jump unless you ABSOLUTELY have to.  Spam the sword attack.

I was immediately reminded of You Have to Win the Game - was that an inspiration? Anyway, I had fun with this one. The lack of sound definitely hurts it, though - some introspective music could have helped drive home the story, a la BotW.

HUGE inspiration, actually! Glad someone caught it!

Hi Ribbon,

Congrats on your entry! :)

The game captivated me from the first seconds, it has a really nice atmosphere and aesthetic to it. The story was wholesome and interesting as well, I definitely didn't expect that. The boss fight was challenging yet fun, maybe it was a bit hard to see those small circles around him.

For me personally, the fish-eye effect made me a bit dizzy but not a big deal.

Awesome job, was a pleasure to play it! :)

Beautiful game, this is right up my alley. The aesthetic is just perfect, I disagree with what the other people said. I didn't think that ending would hit as hard as it did but man those lines about playing that shitty game w her gf... Loved the gameplay too, honestly this is my favorite game I've played so far during this jam. Was there supposed to be audio? If you wanna make this into a whole game and add audio, I would love to help out. I sent you a friend request on discord.

I'm a real sucker for metroidvania style games, so that was a bonus! I really enjoyed the story and the way it was told. Definitely reminded me of some of the indie darlings that have grown really successful! Keep making games, I definitely expect to see great things from you!

The final boss was pretty tough, and I had to work out a strategy to actually win. The upgrades were fun and worked well and exploration was exciting and not tedious. I appreciated all the small details in the map.

I do have to say though the distortion effect almost made me quit playing. It was nauseating. For such a strong effect it'd be nice to include an option to turn it off even if it sacrifices some of the aesthetic.

Glad to see how this turned out! I love the art style you chose and the sprites, very well done! I do not like the warped screen look and find it is too distracting. I am terrible at platformers so I was not able to complete the game but I got the double jump boots! All this needs is some sound effects and background music and this could be something special. Well done!
