Fantastic game! Loved the artwork and sound design and the sled controls felt really smooth! I like the upgrading structure as well for more variability.

Great artwork, and a very unique sort of runner game! The dog sled felt great to control. Really well done!

It was really enjoyable to play! Jump and falling snow animation is very satisfying. Although since the avalanche is not visible all the time it does not feel like you are running away.

Holy crap what a gorgeous game. And I love the pup and the whistling noises. Great ambience!

I really liked the sound and vibe - probably because I love snow and dogs together :D Unless you did it for a wild card - I think it would be better to have some meters of speed, experience, etc. It also benefits from some goal (or maybe there was the goal, but no indication) - so fat it just felt like a fun but a bit aimless run.

Developer

Thanks!

UI is locked behind upgrades, which we now realize might not be the best decision...

Such a fun game, I love that you control the dogs but what matters is the sleigh. Barely making it while going turbo mode it's awesome.

Art and audio wise, it's excellent. Enjoyed the muted color palette and the trees shaking up. The sound effects were really immersive and well done, and the dynamic music caught me by surprise, I enjoyed that detail.

I only have two things to comment: 1) I wish the UI upgrades were already unlocked since they didn't feel as rewarding as the others. 2) I felt like the avalanche wasn't a threat at all, I was more afraid of the trees and fallen logs :P

Other than that, it is a really fun and good loking game!

Developer

Thank you!

Initially we wanted to add an element of customization rather than just a straight way forward with the UI upgrades, but... well, we had to cut the scope, so what was left probably feels a bit lukewarm :P

It's nice to see there's another people more afraid of logs than the avalance, I thought I was biased because of my low reflexes ;)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. We felt we needed a game designer at the end to actually balance things like the XP curve and the avalanche proximity. We needed a lot more playtesting to turn the avalanche into a threat throughout the game, as it is, I think it becomes a bigger threat later in the game when the speed almost matches yours, but few will get there.

This reminded me of a mobile game!

Like others said I thought the art direction was very nice. The sfx and music were simple, but I think it helped convey the tone in a great way.

I did think it would feel more intuitive if the dogs could also pick up presents, it took me a bit to realize that the sled itself is only able to pick up the presents. However, once I got farther in, the rogue-like quality was very fun to experience.

Developer

Thanks!

We did debate whether dogs should be able to pick up presents or not. In the end we decided the dogs were too busy running to pick up presents :D

great game. pixel artist deserves well praise. Great concept.

After jam touchups, after you accelerate on HTML there is a blur (unintended or not) it takes away from seeing the visual of the pixel art on the dog.

Developer

Thanks!

Aw, that's a pity you couldn't see the the dog animation properly. We'll look into it, thanks for the heads up.

952m :) thanks for the fun ride! I just want to compliment you on the beautiful choice of color palette and details like the way the sleigh bends or the animations of snow falling down the tree, all wrapped up in a well-balanced ability system, which all amounts to what one might rightfully call sleighride-roguelike of the year.

Developer

Thanks, I wasn't expecting our little game to be GOY, but I'll accept it, whichever category it is!

That's a nice record, sure beat mine...

I love the pixel art of the game :D

To be a runner game, I found the issue of improvements very interesting, it makes it more dynamic. great job! :D
