How does your game tie into the theme?
You freeze every 15 seconds. A lot of the level design revolves around this.

This was absolutely delightful! The art, animations and audio were all fantastic, but the usage of the freeze/snow mechanics were incredible! Obviously very challenging, but I was so drawn into it that I never really felt the desire to leave. Lovely experience, so well done. Fantastic work!

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm glad you loved it. I had lots of fun thinking of ways the freeze mechanic could interact with other things. :)

The movement feels really good! Great art and sound design as well

Developer

Thanks!

Good game! The art and sounds are nice, it is a cool mechanic for a rage game! Good job! =D

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Very polished little platformer with some inspiring pixel art. The color scheme is very nice and overall the simple yet effective animations of the background and the character add a lot to the game. My only gripe is the instant difficulty spike and punishing gameplay the player is met with. It would be nice to ease into the mechanics of the game before starting to put in difficult jumps that might deter players from continuing to play. Other than that, it's probably the most polished platformer I've played in the jam so far :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't done much with polish and art in the past, so I'm glad it paid off. Supahermes did a great job with the character animations!

The difficulty is way too high, especially for a game jam. Precise platforming, limited time, and huge punishment for messing up don't work together haha. Something I'll focus on in future game jams!

Very fun game. Challenging. I didn't finished. If you can add some kind of checkpoints, like the fire or something.

The monochromatic graphics are excellent. Also the music fit the theme. Great Work.

Developer

Thanks! I definitely should have made the game easier. Adding checkpoints is a great idea!

I'm glad you like our art! The music was made by Supahermes-he did a great job!

I gotta be real - I never made it past the jump where you have to "thread the needle" between the ice hazards on the ground and in the sky.

That said, I am not exactly a Kaizo Masochist, and someone who is would probably really like this game. I found the presentation to be very pleasant and I loved the freezing animation.

Personally, I wish the fires served as checkpoints, but then again maybe the game is much shorter than I thought and I just suck at platformers lol

Either way, good job!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The game is definitely hard- I should have saved time for someone else to playtest (Supahermes, the other guy who worked on this, only got to try the complete thing once it was submitted, and he couldn't finish it either). I've played almost exclusively platformers (also a White Palace fan in Hollow Knight), so that probably affected my idea of how hard it is.

The game is really short- I can finish it in about a minute and a half usually. However, the amount of punishment makes it take way longer than that if I mess up. I think that "lots of punishment" and "precision platformer" don't go together so well...

Having the fires serve as checkpoints is a good idea!

Well, it's a little frustrating, but I understand that it's part of the game.

Still, I had fun trying to get to the end, I think the art and music are very well done.

Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing it! Sorry that it was frustrating- I think it might have been too hard. I'm glad that you enjoy the art and music!

I wasn't able to finish because sadly I had to move with my arrow  keys when I'm used to ASDW so it made it difficult to play. The art is cute and I think the concept is fun!

Developer

Thanks! I definitely should have added different control schemes.

Submitted

I love it! I keep trying to beat it and will come back for sure to try again in future. I really like the puzzle elements and how the freeze mechanic helps you to surpass some platforms.

My only suggestion is to add gamepad support because using space for precise jumps was a bit tricky.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I really should have added gamepad support...Maybe after the jam. I'm glad you liked the puzzle elements, and I hope you can keep having fun trying to beat it in the future-it's definitely a challenge!

very fun sadly didnt finish i swear its not because skill issue :D

Developer

Thanks for playing it! This game is definitely hard-Hudson (Supahermes) couldn't finish it either. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though!

Submitted

Ah, very fun and just solid audio and visual cohesion. I swore I could have bought this for the Gameboy Color. Nice work.

Developer

Thanks so much! We were going for the Gameboy look, glad you enjoyed it!

Very pretty game art and sound wise, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to get past this part.

Also, I didn't know that "rage games" were a thing until today, but the genre definitely lives up to its name. Either that, or I have skill issue when it comes to platformers. Or maybe both.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the art and sound- got to give Hudson (Supahermes) credit for a lot of that.

That's a hard jump to get past, and it's hard to practice because the game punishes you quite a bit for falling. I definitely should have had more playtesting!

If you liked rage games, definitely try out FishCrate if you haven't yet! It's another great submission!

Submitted

Oh man, FishCrate! Physics-wise, that game was probably more rage-inducing, but I think the checkpoints definitely made it more tolerable.

I did notice that sometimes when I froze, I would land on a fireplace that wasn't at the very bottom. Were the fireplaces supposed to be spaced out in a way that made them act as makeshift checkpoints, or was that unplanned for?

Developer

FishCrate was lots of fun! The seals are terrifying!

Landing on fireplaces was intentional! I tried to make it so harder platforming had smaller falls, and the fireplaces helped with that. I thought of making them covered at one point, but that made the game too painful-I didn't want people to have to restart the whole game every time they froze.

Submitted

Well, the game definitely made me rage at times. But I think importantly, it never felt unfair. The platforming felt really well crafted, the mechanics were intuitive throughout, and I thought it was just the right level of challenge. The game was also very pretty, had really good sound design. This was a lot of fun and very well put together!

Developer

Thanks so much! I was really worried about the difficulty of the game, especially given that it doesn't give you much instruction. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted

I love how sometimes you can use the freezing to your own advantage. Very neat mechanic! I had a lot of fun.

Come to think of it, it reminds me a little of my game as well.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed this.

I was definitely worried about having to use the freezing to your own advantage, especially with how quickly you can lose progress. Glad to hear that you figured it out!

Your game was awesome and super polished-I'm happy that this reminds you of it! :)
