This game is brilliant. It looks very complete. I love the art style here.

An important issue is: losing is too easy, and all progress is lost afterwards

Developer

Thanks for playing! Losing being too easy and permanent was an intentional design choice, and also one we went with for the historical accuracy element, because in the historical context, most of the combat that happened during this rebellion was decisive. I understand how that as a gameplay element may be frustrating, however.

It was a bit difficult to figure out how the game worked, maybe some easier to understand tutorial would help a lot, but the art was great, the sound was good, and was definitely involved in the story, would love to see more!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yeah, not being able to implement an in-game tutorial is one of my biggest regrets coming out of this jam.

Looks like a cross between Civilisation and an old game called Slay or maybe Genghis Khan (even older!). The hex map and the units are really very well done. I found it very confusing trying to work out how to manage my area though. I tried a few attacks against neighbouring factions but that did not go well (You Lose).

It looked like I could recruit a bigger army in the main building hex but could not figure it out.
It looks like I can setup hexes to fish, grow rice etc but wasn't able to achieve that either.
It could be very interesting if you can get all the elements working in a way that's easy for the player to understand.

Oh - and it looks really nice in full screen.

Developer

Thanks for playing! In regards to building up your army, that can only be done at Barracks or Elephant Pen buildings, after units are produced in those tiles. As for building Fishing Boats and other buildings, towns do not start out with any resources, so you will need to wait a few turns in order to get the resources to build in a town.

Not badly done just that by choosing to make a turn based strategy (TBS) game you choose a high level of difficulty to complete. Since in TBS games the design can become very complicated in a very short period time of development. When making TBS you should try to keep the game mechanics at its most primative level of structure as over time with addition of AI and game rules the game mechanic will begin to vary drastically.

But never the less the gameplay is interesting one problem was when scrolling in you zoom out and just a little bit of too much content introduced to the player at once. Graphics fit the overall game design along with the audio.

Overall nicely done and when in future you design TBS games is concentrate on creating smaller elements of the TBS genre (player controls, AI decision, game space) and then combine those small elements to see the overall affect. All in all the game you made is well done.

Developer

Thanks for the advice! This was our first finished TBS game, I’ll try and keep what you suggested in mind for future projects.

I really liked this! I'm bad at these kinds of games, but I had fun stocking up just to get demolished after hehe

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Really liked the art and gameplay! but I didn't manage to win:c

Developer

Thanks! I recommend an army of 30 elephants. That tends to do the trick.

The pixel art is soooo good. Even without tutorial, I was able to understand what to do quickly. Amazing strategy game and would love this if you create a bigger game with this!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you managed to understand even without a tutorial.

Really cool game, beautiful art and great music!
One small thing I wished for is a reward screen for completing the game! I wasn't sure if I was able to successfully completed the game but I had no more enemies to fight and all of the towns had the light blue borders. Since it took a bit to get to that point, a screen to let the player know they're done would be great!

Thanks for playing! Something might have bugged out, you should have seen a “YOU WIN” popup when you captured the last enemy town.

Submitted(+1)

Ah, that makes sense, it was probably a bug! I feel like the rest of the gameplay was really satisfying and worth investing a lot of time into as a player!

I can sense a lot of potential in this, a bit confusing at the beggining tho, I would suggest putting all the instructions on the game itself

Developer

Yeah, we would have had an in-game tutorial, but we were running out of time by the time we were going to add it in.

Really got into this game, loved it. Such a strong concept.

Developer

Thanks for the compliment, glad you found the game interesting!

I loved the graphics and audio. Also nice with a game featuring some famous female historical characters. I did find it a bit hard to understand how much I could move and all the different units etc, but with more time it will probably get easier. It would be nice to have some tutorial style gameplay in-game and not just as text outside of the game.

Overall, enjoyed it, and it looks beautiful. :)

Thanks for playing! Yeah, we would have implemented a tutorial and made the interface navigation less janky, but we were a bit short on time by the end.

This game is absolutely incredible for the amount of time required! The visuals and gameplay were really something else. I would say that there is an exploit right now where players can easily spam end turn to farm resources. But that's an easy fix.

Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, if we made the AI a bit more aggressive, players wouldn’t be able to farm resources as much.

Can always appreciate a well made grid even more an hexagonal one. Good luck!

Developer

Thanks for playing! The grid was a nightmare to implement, but it looks like it was a good call in the end.

Amazing game! Really cool graphics and polished gameplay. You have to read the instructions to be able to play it though.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, we weren’t able to include an in-game tutorial because of our time constraints.
