Ah I can see myself just looking at the cute little saplings roaming around for hours! This has quite the cute and soothing vibe (like Fauna)! Here a few of suggestion:

  • Maybe make the vending machine different, right now they seems to be the same
  • Maybe some interaction with the saplings, or the game more, I agreed with Alphros there of maybe hovering to the drop coins to pick it up
  • Some way to expense excess coins, maybe some decoration you could buy, if you planned to expand on the game

Over all, very nice and relaxing game!

Really soothing and cute, absolutely love the BGM choice. Everything is really pleasing to look at.
Some personal thoughts while playing:
-Not sure what are the differences between tea stand and vending machine other than pricing.
-Scrolling on the items zooms the map as well, might get annoying sometimes
-Wish there is a little more interaction. Tex suggested dragging of saplings, and zera suggested picking up coins they drop (I'd prefer just hovering instead of clicking for this) which I think are pretty good ideas.

Overall, I really love my time with this game! Thanks for making this!

Cute simulation game!

Neat pixel art and great choice of BGM! I stayed on the game, doing absolutely nothing but chilling to the BGM and watching the little saplings moving around hehe.

Small bug report: sometimes an item's "ghost" would get stuck on the left side of the screen.

It would be cool if you managed to figure out how to make the saplings more performant so you can have thousands of them on the screen. At 256 saplings the game started playing at something like 3 fps XD

This is such a cute and cozy game. It matches Fauna's personality so well! I'm also really impressed with how much you managed to make within the jam duration! Management games are no small feat to create from scratch.

I do have a few suggestions if you ever consider expanding the game:

  • Adding  grid system for the building placement would be great.
  • It would be great to have the option to cancel a building placement if I accidentally click on the wrong one.
  • On my first playthrough, my first tree spawned 3 corrupted saplings. It might be better if the first tree guaranteed at least 2 or 3 normal saplings to start off more smoothly.

Thanks for checking it out! I hear you on the corrupted Saplings, it's brutal to get them early game. There's a flat chance for them to spawn right now, but ideally I'd like the probability for a corrupted Sapling to spawn to be a function of how many Saplings you have so they're less likely to spawn in until you're more well established, but I was worried about tuning that curve before the end of the jam. Definitely pushed myself to the limit by trying to make this type of game but that's what Game Jams are for!

Nice game >w<!

Some saplings weren't happy xD.

Developer

Oh wow, that is a lot of Saplings! Wasn't sure if the systems could handle that many, lol. Thanks for playing!

Cute little game!

I liked it.
Maybe instead of simply getting the money the saplings could drop the coins and you would need to click them to collect them.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, figuring out m ore ways to keep the player's attention is definitely on the backlog for a post-jam update

Very charming! Some potential areas for improvement: maybe add some thematic visuals around the level, such as a barrier of dense forest, rather than just having the border be gray. And while there is nothing wrong with idle games, I do think having the choice of at least some active participation would go a long way. For example, some items that can be bought/generated/collected, which help with the saplings needs. Or the option to pick saplings up and drag them closer to the things that help with their needs, if not directly assign them.

Speaking of moving things: I found that it was possible to accidentally place trees in such a way (e.g. directly next to a cliff) that saplings would be boxed in upon spawning and unable to move. There really should be some way to move or destroy objects after they have been placed.

Still, for the limited time we had, I think it turned out quite well! I also liked some of the small touches, such as the randomly generated sapling names. Good job!

Thanks for taking the time to play and leaving such detailed feedback! The latest update should make it harder to place trees in a bad position, but the placement is still a little awkward. Definitely pushed myself outside the comfort zone this jam with this type of game and had a lot going on but I'm pretty happy with how it all came together in the end!

Very soothing. Its not really my genre but I had a good time. The art is very well done and its cute. The detection for where you can and can't place things felt a bit weird to me and some of the saplings wouldn't go to the things they craved, but it was still very fun.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I've pushed an update with a couple of minor tweaks to building placement and the Sapling AI to prefer to take advantage of closer items all things being equal, so that should smooth out some of that friction, even if they're still not the most intelligent.

This game gets high marks because my sister played it and genuinely loves it and is telling my stream how much she wishes she had a full version on her phone and that she would play it every single day if it existed.
That's probably the most successful you can be in a Game Jam.

Beautifully done.

Thank you for the kind comment, that means so much to me! I'm glad she enjoyed it!
