Great game, the concept is really creative and fun, I enjoyed playing through the entire game. One idea I had while playing, it felt a little frustrating that you could play "perfectly" but still take on corruption because you have to enter a corrupt space to recover a memory. I think it would just feel a bit better for the player if you don't take corruption only for the first time you enter a corrupt tile, so you can have "perfect" runs for levels where you never take any damage. Overall balance would be exactly the same since you can then reduce the player health by 1 to account for the change, so it'd be a purely psychological change for the player.
Excellent submission!
Very creative approach to minesweeper, love the minimalistic approach to the visuals and fits Ina's personality really well. Like most have already pointed out, it needs a reliable way to move diagonally, since it is a pretty important part of the game. One way I can maybe think of is to have a little tiny delay before the player starts moving so players have enough time to register 2 directional keys.
I've enjoyed my time with it, thanks for making this!
Ooh that's one way I hadn't considered. Thanks for the suggestion!
Level 7 has good game design for teaching the player how to use empty spaces to count. At least in my case I hadn’t considered it until then, since they’re pointless in regular minesweeper.
Wow! I'm glad the level actually worked as intended.
Really like this inverted Minesweeper Gameplay. This is truly something I havn't seen before!
The diagonaly movement sometimes didn't work for me and I missed some soft and somber Background music but I still really enjoyed my time with this game.
Good work!
Interesting inversion of the standard "minesweeper" puzzle where stepping on the "mines" as quickly as possible is required. Later rooms can get a bit rough with only 3 sanity, there's at least one where you can easily get a layout where you might lose without making a "wrong" move (blind diagonal wall-crossing onto a 1 is the worst offender).
Cute game! You may want to reconsider how much sanity gets restored after picking up yellow thingies because you can straight up ignore mechanics and rush trough the game and still survive.
Yep, in the early levels you can. That's intentional so players have time to learn about other mechanics first. Beside, the amount of max sanity decreases the more you progress. On the last three levels you'll get only 3 sanity, which is the optimal amount, I think .
But I get what you're trying to say. Perhaps it should restore a static amount of sanity throughout the levels. Or perhaps the difficulty progression is a bit too slow. I'll continue to think about that. Thanks for the feedback!
Several comments have mentioned that the diagonal movement feels a bit tricky, and I agree! I find it especially frustrating on the last level. Originally, I planned to implement point & click movement, but I wasn’t confident I could pull that off within just two weeks. So, I went with keyboard movement instead. But no worries! I’m looking forward to implement point & click movement for the next update.
diagonal movement can be a bit tricky at times, but this is a cool game!
Really unique gameplay, nice job!
Moving diagonally sometimes doesn't work or it's really hard to get the timing, I died a couple times because of this.
Aside from that, great job overall!
Very interesting concept! Considering I was only able to make a regular minesweeper game in the last jam, this one is definitely a 5-star innovation for me.
Others have described it as a "reverse Minesweeper," but I think it's the limited choices that add a unique twist. Once a player steps on a corrupted tile, they’re kind of forced to guess where the mines are instead of coming back later as lingering would cost them sanity.
The pun is on brand too and I think this references the maze in Ina's dungeon during the ENReco event.
Thank you for the generous rating! Glad you like the mechanics. It went through multiple iterations before it reached its current form.
Also, having someone noticed the pun really made my last two weeks. Because fun fact: coming up with the pun was the moment I thought, "Yep, I'm toootally gonna make this game a reality" lol.
You're art is really cute!
I love that you took something that sounds so silly and made it into a working thing! "Reverse minesweeper" This probably has some set of rules by which you could win most of the time the same way actual minesweeper does. I sort of just bumbled my way through it though.
Nicely done!
Really fun! I love the theming and art, and the reverse minesweeper idea was very fun.
Very cool reverse minesweeper!
I cleared the first 5 levels.
Some suggestions:
- Make it so sanity doesn't go down if the player tries to walk into a wall (hence not moving at all)
- It's not very obvious you can walk diagonally. You could add more control keys for the diagonals or add a simple graphic as a tutorial explaining all possible movement directions and the game's goal.
Thank you for playing! About the suggestions:
Love the Idea! At least i never heard of a reverse Mindsweeper xD And it really is addicting xD I'm a sucker for puzzle games. And it was decently difficuilt too you really need to watch your next step. Definetly a fun one!
Really fun IDEA! I think it instructions are needed though. I didn't realise i was suppose to tank the mins to get the cores until i messed around. And I thought i was suppose to mark the mines for a while.
But really addicting thank you.
Thank you! I'll be working on the instructions immediately.
