uuuuuuuu it's too spooky for me

On a serious note though, you've nailed that classic Slender-esque ambience really well that it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Plus, I don't think I can say I've ever played a game that actually made me jump and scream at the sight of Wide Fauna until now so you've really accomplished something here XD

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad I was able to make you scared of Wide Fauna hehe.

I can't believe you made my oshi scary!!!

Joke aside, a very nostalgic trip of the Slender Man era indeed!

If there's something more, I would wish for at least a map layout for me, doesn't need to be real time, just something I could gauge where some point of interest I need to investigate.

Developer(+1)

Yep, I'm planning on adding a map since it's a bit too easy to get lost in the forest. Thanks for the feedback and for playing!

This really really captured the feeling of the old Slender game, the flashlight, the music, frantically checking behind you. Seeing wide Fauna made me jump more than I'd like to admit (and more often). Not a super ton new here but there's a lot to learn from understanding and recreating a style regardless. Also, the music is Let Me Stay Here?? That rules.
I think replacing the pages with items to use adds a lot of complexity and back and forth that maybe makes it tougher than the og, though her getting stuck is new and funny also

Developer

Yep, I really tried to replicate the ambiance and feel of the original Slender game (even if it made it feel a bit dated lol), and it was a really fun learning experience. And yeah the music is actually clips from Let Me Stay Here slowed down and with some effects! I was surprised with how scary I could make such a happy song sound. Thanks for playing!

Spooky Fauna game! Uuuuu!

Seems like your standard find-stuff-while-running-from-the-monster kind of game. However, I couldn't fully enjoy it because of the following:

- I couldn't figure out the map layout before I got sniped by wide Fauna. You get easily lost in the dark. A compass and a minimap would help a lot.

- It didn't feel possible to outrun Fauna in the dark due to the lack of a stamina bar (am I running? am I tired and just walking?) and no way to know if I'm walking into a tree when the screen is pitch black.

- I could only find one item and the description didn't give me any hints about how to use it.

I like that the music is a hint of Fauna chasing you. The jumpscare sfx is also effective.

One more thing that can be improved: The UI doesn't scale well in ultrawide displays.

Developer

Thanks for the helpful feedback! This gave me a lot of insight on how to improve the game.

I had  a lot of fun with this one, but I got stuck. I think I found everything I needed besides one item which held me back. I'll probably be back after I play the other games to find that item and beat it.

Developer

Glad you had fun with it! I'm pretty sure I made the game way too hard so well done for almost beating it! I'm definitely gonna make it a bit easier though lol. Thanks for playing!

It was a fun game with great horror atmosphere. Never thought Fauna would make me jump from surprise. I didn't realize until the second try that the music means Wide Fauna is nearby so it really got me the first time.

Developer

I actually genuinely jumped one time during testing so that was quite a surprise lol. Thanks for playing!

Can't say I'm the target audience for these type of games, but for what it is, I think its done very well.
The mood and atmosphere really sets up the creepiness, even if there isn't an entity out to kill you this place will still creep me out.
Though from gameplay standpoint, there needs to be a better indicator when Fauna's near or something. Too many times it is happening from behind and I am oblivious to it until the jumpscare pops.
Regardless, thanks for making this!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and for playing the game! I put a lot of effort into trying to make a game about Fauna creepy, so I'm glad that you were creeped out hehe.

I'm not good with horror games. It was too spooky for me to continue so good job on the ambience.

Developer

Thanks for playing even if you aren't good with horror games!

I'm not super familiar with this genre, so maybe my takes are going to be very weird, but I had fun! I'm weak to horror games and did this game did a very good job scaring me lol. I'd like it to be a little brighter without the flashlight because I literally couldn't see anything but maybe that's an issue with my screen or that's just normal in the genre. Nice work!

Developer (1 edit)

I also honestly felt that it should be brighter when the flashlight is off, but it kinda messes with the balancing since it makes avoiding Wide Fauna a bit too easy. But I'm sure there is a way to find a middle ground so thanks for the feedback! Thanks for playing and I'm glad I gave you a good scare hehe.

I am a little sad that you pretty much just did slender. But you did a really good job doing slender so I have to give you a fairly good rating. My sister came in and played it and her biggest critique is that there really needs to be some indication of wide Fauna's presence. Otherwise it's just too easy for her to sneak up on you and end it.

I am also biased against it, I just don't like this style of game.
You did really good!

Developer

Thanks for playing! The indications of wide Fauna's presence were supposed to be her footsteps and voicelines so that you could still hear her in the dark, but judging from feedback, it seems that the audio clips for her voicelines and footsteps are too quiet. I'll definitely work on making them a lot more audible. I'm also planning on adding more mechanics/puzzles so that it isn't just Slender, so I'm excited to work on the game even more. Thanks for the feedback!
