From gameplay mechanics to UI design to art style and soundtrack... everything about this was excellent. Really good use of colour to indicate the change in cartridge and therefore skill. Amazing contribution, you should be very proud.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I really appreciate the compliments and I'm glad you enjoyed my game so much!
Okay, that was extremely cool. The art was incredibly cute, and while it took me a minute to realise what was going on, the abilities were amazing and creative, and combining them all to create a puzzle game was such a great idea. I'm pretty sad that there was only two puzzles to solve, I would really really love this idea to be expanded upon and to have to mix up the abilities to solve different puzzles along the way. I managed to skip a step on the second level by rapidly changing through the skills mid-jump, which was awesome and felt so fun to game the little systems you had put in place to gain an advantage.
Only thing that annoyed me was every time I switched "cartridges" the popup paused the movement and slowed down the flow of the game a bit. But other than that I loved it! Great job!
Hello! Thank you so much for playing my game! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Based off of the feedback I've been getting here, I'm heavily considering continuing development on this outside of the jam luckily my level building system is pretty modular so it's easy for me to design new levels. I've also had some good dialogue about how to switch up the dynamism of the puzzle designs so I'm excited to try some of it out. Haha I'm glad you found one of the little shortcuts, I was thinking of taking that out after I discovered it but thought it was a nice little reward for creative thinking and skill level. That is good to know about switching cartridges I'm definitely going to have to overhaul my input system as it hasn't quite been working as intended. Thank you for all of your feedback!
I enjoyed this game a lot! I thought it was a very creative use of the theme and the art style was super nice. On the first level, I would have liked a clearer distinction of what was able to be jumped on and what wasn't, but it only took me a minute to try and jump on everything so not a major issue. I thought all the powers were super unique and I really liked the touch of the level-changing color to help keep track of what power you were using! Well done!
Thank you so much for all the positive feedback and for playing my game! I agree I do need clearer distinction on what objects are jumpable, at one point the AC unit and shelves were but it kind of broke up the flow. Also I saw Adam play your game on stream and it's super creative I love it! I can't wait to play it myself!
Super fun I had a lot of fun playing this! Great work overall everything came together well although I wish there was more UI to let you know immediately what cartridge you have without the text appearing just my opinion though
Hey! I'm so glad you enjoyed my game! Thanks for the positive feedback. As far as the UI, I did want to have a highlighted version of the cartridges on the side letting you know which one is active but time constraints dictated otherwise. Thank you for taking the time to play my game!
What a fun gameplay! Love the art and sound too. I accidentally found a cheat on the second level by staying on top of the bookshelf and jump before the gravity stage so I can skip the previous one. Anyway, I really enjoyed this game!
HI!Thank you so much for playing my game! Haha good to know, there's a couple other unintentional shortcuts like that I found after I submitted it. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Like others said, I really like the art design and concept! I'm kind of surprised there isn't a game or super hero that utilizes this idea (i.e. different powers from different game cartridges) or if there is, I haven't heard of it at least.
I got the float above the ground glitch after beating the game, so I thought it was a literalization of no longer being grounded for a second.
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed my game! I've never really heard of a game or hero with this concept either! I'm sorry you ran into the jumping bug but that is absolutely hilarious how it manifested right after you won. I actually think that's a better ending than the slightly vague message I used lol.
Sounds to me like I unlocked the true ending!
Wow this is a really cool concept! The second level was very intuitive, this was a great design. I think the only issue I had was with the Sonic Dash level, it was difficult to give the game multiple inputs at a time, sometimes it wouldn't work. Also I couldn't interact with the gameboy on my first try, I had to reload the game. Other than that it was amazing!
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed my game! I really appreciate the feedback. I definitely think the input handling system I built could use a bit more tweaking and the Sonic dash could definitely use some more fine tuning. I'm sorry you ran into the interaction bug but I'm glad refreshing took care of it. Thank you so much for playing it!
The music was a bit repetitve and with the 8-bit sound it can get a bit annoying, but other than that the concept is really cool and the execution well done, very good game overall!
Hey! Thanks for playing my games and thank you so much for your feedback! I totally understand what you mean about the music, making music isn't my strong suit and I ended up not having enough time to flesh it out more. Also I had never used Bosco Ceoil before so there was a slight learning curve. Anyways I'm glad you enjoyed playing my game!
Nice work! The 8bit graphics with music was a good combination with game mechanics.
Thank you for playing my game! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! :)
I enjoyed so much this idea of having lots do do even when your "grounded" lol. Congratulations on your entry! very creative
Some considerations:
Thank you so much for playing my game! I'm sorry you ran into some bugs. A few people have mentioned the interaction bug. Usually moving away from the Gameboy and back to it or refreshing solves it. I'm not entirely sure what's causing it just yet. The jump bug is weird, I only found it in testing a couple times towards the end of the jam so I didn't have time to implement a solution unfortunately. As far as the levels, there is only two levels in the game. The tutorial level and the second level. Once you get the second key you beat the game. Thanks again for checking it out and I really appreciate your feedback!
Very clever idea! That was a great use of the theme
Thank you so much for playing my game! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
I got a bug where I was floating at 2 pixel above the ground and I couldn't jump or interract, maybe a jumping animations that didn't got cancelled ?
Anyway very fun, I like how not only the terrain changes but you get different abilities with each one.
Hi! Thank you so much for playing my game! I'm glad you enjoyed playing it! Sorry you ran into a bug, it is very much the jump animation not being cancelled properly I only noticed it during testing toward the end so I didn't have time to implement a solution unfortunately.
the interact isnt working for me? i love the art tho
Hello! Thank you so much for trying out my game! I'm sorry you ran into an issue with the interaction. A few people have mentioned that bug, try moving around and try to interact with it again to see if it solves it, if not others have mentioned refreshing takes care of it. I'm not quite sure if it's a browser or collider issue causing it. I'm glad you. Enjoyed the art!
This is a very creative concept! Swapping between the different powers and level geometry provided a very interesting puzzle-solving element.
While I was able to grasp the concepts pretty quickly, the popups describing the powers hurt the flow a fair bit on the first level. Considering that it is required for the player to demonstrate they know how the power works in order to unlock the next cartridge, it would help if the popups only appeared once.
Granted, of course, that was only an issue for the first level, being the tutorial. Still, something to keep in mind for the future.
The aesthetics were charming, and the change in the palette for each power helped me remember quickly what power was selected.
Very well done!
Thank you for playing my ggame and thank you for all of your feedback! You're absolutely right about the pop ups breaking the flow during the tutorial stage. The development of the tutorial turned out to be a bit more rushed that I wanted to but that's the game jam life lol I'm glad you enjoyed playing it!
Great mechanics! I love how you can switch between the different abilities/platforms to make one cohesive level! Would get a great rating if rating system worked :)
Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to play my game! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Aww, I like this one a lot. Gameboy aesthetics tug on my heartstrings, and I love a good puzzle platformer. I ran into a little finickyness interacting with the gameboy the first time. Got stuck and had to reload to get it to work. Might be a browser thing, I don't know. Took me a minute to realize only left shift would work to change carts, as well.
But yeah, really solid all around. Nice take on the theme, cool core mechanic, good art, good music, good "hup" sound.
Thank you for all of your positive feedback! Glad you liked the aesthetics, I wanted to capture that nostalgic feeling of being stuck in your room as a kid with nothing but a Gameboy and your imagination! That's odd about the Gameboy, I think it might be an issue with the collider, could be a browser thing too. Ah! I was wondering if I should clarify left shift or not I'll make sure to tweak that. I'm really glad you enjoyed the game!
Also thanks for noticing the hup sounds totally justifies me recording strange noises in my room at midnight haha!
Great game I just beat it haha. I absolutely love the idea so creative.
Thanks so much for checking it out! Congrats on beating it!
Woow great game! Love the idea! The design was really great also the sound effects, great job!
Thank you for playing my game! I appreciate all the positive feedback!
What a fun game! Maybe you could add some way to know what the next level will look like? Because there are a lot of blind jumps atm. This is the first game I finished playing from this jam, and the art is awesome! Great work!
Thank you so much for playing my game! I appreciate the feedback! I was wondering about adding a "hint" to the next platform but I was afraid it would make the puzzles a bit too linear. I'll have to tweak with the levels to see if I can fit that in.
I was wondering about that. Maybe you could even let the player pick the game instead of having a linear order, that would make the puzzles more dynamic, and you could have a minimap of all the different layouts so they know what they're getting into
Thanks for the feedback! Those are some great ideas! I considered having the player be able to choose which cartridge to play but trying to come up with a clever way to pull that off without the linearity was difficult in such a short time. The gravity inversion in particular tends to break the flow (which was a last minute discovery) hence the giant blocking platform in the second level. I do like how it can make the puzzles more dynamic though. I also really like the idea of a minimap showing the different platforms ahead of time that way the player can see it and kind of plan out which cartridges to hop to. If I continue development with this after the jam I'll test these out and if they make it into the final game I'll make sure to give you credit!
