I think you have something really great on your hands here. Even though it's linear and punishing I stuck with it way longer than I thought I would bc the core concept is so strong. And those visuals are sooo good. Would love to see this expanded with a smoother ramp-up!

Wow, thanks! I probably won't expand this specifically, but I plan to make something bigger in this vein. I like a game structured this way, an RPG with a separate abstracted system for handling encounters, like Undertale or Everhood. I made something of a pretty good size in Pico-8 a few months ago, where I worked out a lot of the fundamentals of this kind of game. I like it a lot, it's also tough, but not to it's detriment like this project. You can play it here!

Well this looks and sounds AWESOME !!!!!! :)  but it's bloody hard, event the first combat I can't beat after so many tries .... I want to see the story :)

I'm glad you like it! Once the jam is over I plan to slow it down a lot so that it's more playable
You aren't missing out on much, the writing is all a little rushed XD

Very interesting ! very challenging. Art and music are pretty cool ! Good work !

definitely unique but very challenging!

I find this really hard and frustrating. It took me 143 retries to complete the whole game.

I really like the animations displaying at the side of the screen. Nicely done.

The character may be fast but I am not! Hahaha. This game is really addicting even though it is pretty hard. I would have liked to see an easier boss at the beginning just so I could get a bit of a taste of sweet victory and see more of the game. I saw the other comments so I'm sure you already know that box speed probably could have been slower for at least the first boss. Other than the difficulty I would say the sound was a little loud for me so it probably could have used a volume slider. On the positive sides is pretty much everything else. The gameplay is fun and addicting, I like the art and the animations particularly the guy tapping to drop the boxes. The sounds are all fitting and immersive. I really like the quick restart so you can be in the action and learning constantly. After I rate more games I will comeback and try some more.

Yeeaah, I should have made the first guy substantially easier. It was a sunk cost thing; I had time to restructure the fights and I knew they were too tough, but I didn't want to throw away the work to make them. Jam games should skew more accessible, so that you *can* show off your whole game to everyone, I just messed up royally XD It's alright though, it's a good lesson to learn.

Solid game, still stuck on the first guy. I’ve got my pattern down but the execution needs to be perfect!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I definitely overshot the difficulty. I'm glad you like it though! Fundamentally it's about learning the pattern, and when you're the one writing the pattern it seems a lot easier to figure out; and where the challenge is figuring out the pattern, execution should probably have been less of a factor. This was a good game to make for sure

i'm sure this game is great but I can't play it because it's way too fast

maybe add frameskip or use dt
