One of the most complete games I've played in any game jam. Well-balanced and pretty polished. I agree the player could be a little faster, but I also think it's part of the underwater feel to make him a bit slow and I did get used to it. Overall, great controls, great visuals, a variety of fun challenges, good sound. Sadly, I couldn't proceed once I got to the shipwreck, as I'd blown up the two bombs earlier, so do consider making things a little more idiot-proof ;) For a bit more polish I would show the controls in-game at the start (i.e. "use e to interact" first time getting to the submarine), and the fact that WASD controls switch to arrow keys at the submarine menu feels a little odd.

Story was the only thing that felt a bit lackluster to me. The atmosphere feels mysterious and creepy and you're completely isolated, but finding messages every so often from my crew that seemed alive and well kind of broke through that feeling. I think it'd be more mysterious if you found bits of pieces of, perhaps, their gear, or their shipwreck, or other visual elements that hint at their fate without spelling it out literally, as I think the lack of clear answers and communication feeds more into the feeling of isolation and the mystery of the ocean. Just my thoughts.

Also, was kind of wishing for a gigantic sea monster to show up.

Thank you for your kind words! We had briefly talked about about some large creature, but we only had 5 days after our first idea turned out to be total garbage 😅
Your feedback about the controls and blowing up the ship wreck are greatly appreciated, and we will take it into account for the next patch that we're saving until the rating period is over.

Fantastic game! So great in fact that I posted a video review of it on my youtube channel.

Check it Out!

Awesome video! Glad you loved it! You are right on the money with the interior vs exterior feel of the submarine.

Unfortunately the web build wouldn't load on my mac, which isn't your fault but makes me sad, 'cause the game looks AMAZING! Let me know if you ever make a mac build!

Developer

The current 4.1.1 build of Godot doesn't seem to work very well with safari from what i hear.
We can definitely make a Mac build, but we wouldn't be able to sign it/notarize it, so anyone trying to run it would need to completely disable Gatekeeper. not sure if that's worth it, but we'll have a look :-)

oh yep. I was using Chrome, but I've read that Godot has problems on some macs in general. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

It's amazing that you could create such a complete game, super immersive, well-designed, and very intuitive. I loved it. I would only suggest that the texts could move faster to make it more enjoyable.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback, great to hear you loved it! We are preparing a small QoL patch that speeds up a couple of things folks like yourself gave feedback on such as text speed, and character and ship speeds.

Great game.

I really loved the atmosphere and presentation. It fits really well with the story. My only problem is that I found it a bit long. I know thats important that the submarine movement was very slow but at the end I felt it too much. Anyway I think is just my personal taste, not a game problem. Congratulations, you really did a very unique and worthy playing game.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Happy to hear you liked it. We are preparing a small update to address some of the feedback that felt the game was too slow, but as you said, the slowness is part of it 🙂

Submitted(+2)

Nice it cas an immersive experience! I found the player a bit slow too once inside the submarine and the intro is quite long as you cannot speed-up the dialogs. That beiing said it was well polished with a good atmosphere and it forces you to take the pace of the deep ocean. Lights effects were cool.

I would have find more immersive to add some flora and fauna even if it's juste shady shapes moving in the background somewhere... during the descent.

This game was really beautiful. I loved the atmosphere and the lighting. The animation and visual indication for what was going on was amazing. One thing I particularly liked was the design of the game itself. Starting out of the vessel was a great idea, the arrows made it clear where to go, and it was perfectly blocked to have the player not get confused. The lighting on the grappling hook was a great addition as well. I also liked how the lighting on the ship becomes more necessary as you descend deeper. I agree about comments related to player speed, though it did make sense for the underwater setting.

Very cool game! I like being able to move the submarine or the character (and the fact that I have to switch between the two if I want to explore everything). sound effects are nice. Seems to have a cool narrative even though I didn't finish it yet. I was pushed very hard in the opposite direction of the upgrade when I picked it up with my grappling hook and it made me slam in the wall and lost life because of it lol.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, we'll take a look at the grappling hook issue, it's not supposed to turn on you 😅

Submitted(+1)

Great game. The character movement does feel rather slow. Also the grapple is a bit annoying to use because it tends to pull me downwards, but I can't move upwards and still move the object. And the same with bombs.

I did get stuck somewhere near some kind of pillar blocking my way. Not really sure what to do next.

Developer

[light spoiler] You have to interact with the mines together with the wall

Submitted

Are you talking about an earlier pillar of blocks? The one I'm talking about is horizontal and does not look like bombs would help. Not that there are any bombs within vicinity.

Player is toooooooo sloooooow. overall Great game with nice main menu

Submitted(+2)

Amazing! Agreed that the movement was slow, but this was very well polished for something made in one week. Game is perfect

Submitted(+2)

It's really a good game I like the art that and the concept

Submitted(+2)

The Game is Perfect but try to make the movement faster

Submitted(+2)

This is incredible. Really good. The movement was a little slow for me. However, everything else was really good. The story is amazing. The game really has an ominous mood and the whole feel of the game is wonderful. So much content too for a week too! Great job

Submitted(+3)

WOW. this game is amazing! sadly i got stuck at the ship wrack. How can i proceed here? I'd love to play this till the end.
Just amazing. The Look, the Sound, the gameplay. Just a really greatan polished  experience!

best game so far!

Developer

Did you try to use the environment to blow it up yet?

Submitted(+1)

yes, but maybe the explosion was to far away? i didn't want to blow up myself :D
gonna try it. thanks!

Submitted(+3)

loved the aesthetics of this, and the story is really compelling so far, great job on nailing the atmosphere of being alone in a sub :D

Submitted(+3)

This game is really great! The visuals and story were really good and the gameplay is intense at times and exciting at the other times! Great job!

Submitted(+1)

By the way, the web version won't load for me on Mac. It just stalls on the loading screen and the entire page freezes.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Unfortunately a bug on Apple's part in terms of WebGL 2.0 support - it will load but it takes forever due to shader compilation, and Godot expects more modern features to work properly. I think we can deploy a Mac version if you're really interested. (Godot 4 is affected, 3 used to work because they used a very limited set of WebGL 1.0)

Submitted(+3)

I really liked this! The visuals are amazing, and I liked the story \ adventure sense. I feel like if the submarine was faster this game would be much better. Also didn't know what some objects I found do. Enjoyed exploring around though!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! We will probably push a little update after the rating period with some QoL fixes.
