Once I got used to the mechanic I found it quite refreshing to not shoot the fish directly. Very nice artstyle and the chest at the end was quite funny. Were you planning to put something in and ran out of time or was that the plan from the beginning?
Small things...
On the Itch-Page it says Right-Click for both, but it seemed to be Left-Click for both.
You ate 36 Oreo packs or 36 Oreos???

Developer

The ending was actually planned from the beginning since I never wanted a boss, so I could focus on the rest of the game more.

Although I had put in a bit less polish and enemy variety than I hoped for since I changed the game idea about 3 times in 2 days, since I was unhappy with the previous versions and was quite sleep deprived by the end.

Thanks for noticing the error, I changed it to left click now

I ate 36 oreos from a 36 pack I got for cheap, if I ate 36 packs I think I might overdose :P

wow , this is cool

Real cool game, like how You were able to make the deep atmosphere, the sound took it to a way another level.

Great coding, Jacob.

I love the atmosphere. Nicely done!

I love the pixel art for this.

oddly enough, this a mechanic i was planning on adding to my game lol.

really fun game, the harpoon body slam mechanic is really satisfying to do when you get the hang of

it.

although the third area is insanely difficult with the big enemies jamming you into walls and such.

So much fun! You managed to make it both soothing and exhilarating .

The dithering, the lights, and the tutorial I like especially. You kept is simple to make things very polished, and make the gameplay very fun and refined. The harpoon mechanic is so clever and awesome.

This is great - the harpoon body slam is a very fun mechanic that works really well.

I'd agree with other comments that downwards movement should be a little faster

The music is wonderful, congrats to Christopher Purnell :)

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Beautiful graphics, the base movement speed could maybe be a touch higher, particularly for the down key, there's  some waiting moments that take a while

This was really fun! Once I got a hold of what I could do it was really fun. The spear gun was really fun and was very satisfying when you hit 2 enemies at once.  I think it would work nice visually if there was a line connected to the spear and the player so you could get a visual of the past before you reel in and there were collision issues where enemies that were close enough to attack me wouldn't get hit when using the mechanic. But this is a really fun game!

Developer (1 edit)

Originally it was going to have a line connected but line2D in godot is really clunky and wasn't working with me, so it would always display incorrectly

Submitted

The game looks fantastic! However, when you die it takes too long to get back to the fish, so you could maybe have a way to skip the tutorial bit?

Submitted

Really good use of the limitation! Killing fishes feels really satisfying! Good job!

Nice game and nice graphism ! It is always a pleasure to play  an arcade type game in a game jam rather than an unfinished ambitious game (like mine...)

It  is very hard, I nearly reach the after sand zone, and yeah the bottom button doesn't really work and that's a shame because we have to wait that the  character goes down the easy medusa before begining the difficult part

Developer

Was originally going for something more arcade but was quite deprived of time, because of changing the game mid jam

The S actually does make you drop faster but was unshure how fast I should make it so it's not just a normal platformer

Nice little game with a chill atmosphere. The core mechanic is really fun, and the visuals are nice. Great job on the sound design too (music seems to only be playing on the right speaker though?)

Some criticisms:
- I tried to slam into the jellyfish for quite a while before I realized there were other fish, probably because there is a jellyfish right on the text where it tells you to slam into fish.

- Takes too long to go back down after going up, that feels unresponsive.

- If you're on one HP, there's no way to recover because as soon as you shoot, you die.

- If I need to slam really quickly as soon as the harpoon hits, my instinct is to spam-click in that moment, but I end up canceling my slam.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out man!

Yeah, should have thought more on the instructions placement.

When you're on one hp you can actually recover(you have one second) but should have probably made it a larger recovery window.

Submitted

Love the atmosphere and the main mechanics! I would maybe put an outline around the jelly though? They can kinda blend into the background.

Submitted

I Love that body slam mechanics :D

Submitted

the game is so good but the player is kinda slow

Submitted

nice game!

Nice game, I like the idea. However I feel the tutorial is confusing. It tells me WASD to move, implying it is top-down, but then uses AD for left and right, W for going up and S doing nothing? Apart from that I really like the use of the limitation.

Developer

Thanks for checking out my man,

I was originally going to exclude S but instead  made it move the player down a bit faster

Nice game! Love the aesthetic, love the controls, love getting eaten alive by the eels.

I think some of the tutorialization is a bit out of order. For example, the first thing I'm told is to use my left click to move, so I spam it and then I'm confused when I die. A bit further down, it explains this, but I think it should be higher up. Also, I was trying to spear the jelly for a while, so maybe the "avoid jelly" text should come before the spear tutorial.

I had the most fun in the sections with the fish and eels, it gets very intense very fast.

Had a lot of fun playing!

Developer

Thanks, I should have probably put some more thought into the positioning of the  tutorial text,

but didn't want to spam the player with text so I somewhat half hazardly just put them somewhere.
