Just me. (Aaron Zeng).

Software used
Unity!

Use of the limitation
Attempted to implement color, but didn't have enough time, so there's only the red and orange dungeon for now. Also made it so the players projectiles also kill the player.

Awesome game mate!

Great concept well executed

This is my first jam too

the player has too much health, i could just spam shoot and not care about dying

This game was so fun~ I really like the "your own projectiles can kill you" implementation, and I especially love that the projectiles bounce off of the enemies and walls, as that lends to some nifty math-based shots, ahaha~ The player sprite and the enemies are adorable, too! I also enjoyed picking a "twist" for the subsequent zones, I can see how you would be able to expand on this foundation you have created! Very fun, actiony game, overall! ^^

I really like all of the various games that have played with your projectiles bouncing and dealing self damage, and this does it pretty well! It would help a lot if there was more visual feedback that an enemy has been damaged, and indicators where they are appearing from off screen so that the player can get out of the way would also be helpful. Good work!

Fun game! I like to just spam projectiles and hope the enemies die before I do. I think a health bar for the enemies will be good.

Developer

ok, thanks for the suggestion! i will make it in the near future!

Really nice job on this!  It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to see where you take it after the game jam ends!  One idea I had for a possible future twist to increase the difficulty without limiting the fire rate is to make the bullets bounce off each other in addition to the walls and characters.  (It would probably make things incredibly chaotic, but it would also force the player to think more carefully about their attacks!)

Hehe, this was so fun to just shoot as many bullets as I could and just try to avoid them XD Very enjoyable game, and I thought it was a great use of the theme and limitation :)

Thanks!

Fun game! However, I think the game could be made more challenging by limiting the number of projectiles you can fire at a time. This would prevent players from firing 50 projectiles at the enemies, killing them instantly and beating the level before they bounce back.

Developer

thank you for the suggestion! i'm currently making a limitation that limits your firerate.

Very well made I loved every second of it! :) the enemies were also really cute 11/10

thanks!

Cool Game! I really enjoyed the shooting and the bounce mechanic on the enemy. The only thing was that the audio was a little loud. Other than that good job!

Developer

Sorry! ;p i had some problems making the music audio and it turned out really quiet, so i tuned up the audio for everything and thats why the sound effects were so loud! I'll remake the music in the music for the next update!

Submitted

Are you using unity with audio sources? And triggering them with audiosource.Play() or are you using another method such as audiosource.PlayOneShot(audio clip here, volume here in a float)….

Developer

i'm just getting a dontdestroyonload gameobject and sticking an audio loop on it

The limitation works well, and the game is pretty fun to play!

I like the mechanics overall, and though having a tutorial is nice, I think that some elements of the game could be introduced without the text (like the exploding enemies). Also, cool idea with the powerups.

Good job!

Oh, one extra thing: for some reason, the sound effects were really loud and the music was low.

Nice use of the limitation with a really simple concept.

I found it pretty hard to actually dodge the bullets consciously, maybe a more direct response of the character could help here.

It may also be nice to have the option between shooting a few strong bullets (easier to dogdge) and many not so powerful ones (harder to dodge, but less impact). Could be a good addition to the powerups. The existing powerups options are also cool already.

Developer

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm making a fire rate limitation and on the transition between orange zone and yellow zone i'll add some powerups for firerate.

It was a really clever implementation of the limitation...

It's simple, but I can really feel like I'm making the game harder for myself by attacking the enemies.

Would be great to see the design of the limitation being expanded... Something like another mechanic that is weaker, but doesn't feel like I'm playing against myself, and having to choose between them...

Making a kind of Risk and Reward situation.

Thanks! I'll continue working on this game but I also have school, so this is probably going to become a long term project.

I would remove the less bounce effect, it makes the game much too easy. Also you don't need the text explaining the game, outside of "point and click" everything else the player can figure out by themselves without distracting text.

Developer

thanks for pointing that out! i've debuffed it so much that you can only see the difference after ~5 bounces.

Had a bit of trouble starting the game at first

BUT

Underneath that, WOW This is incredible! First of all

- Quick gameplay, fast and fun, action packed

- Good dynamic of, being able to spam bullets, but that also affects yourself, especially in those longer levels

- I was enjoying the red area quite a bit until it ended, Then i saw the powerup screen and went, ?!?! WHAT?! THIS IS SO COOL!!!!!!!! Giving the player freedom to choose something like that is super good design, and all the powerups seem to be really good too! Personally i took the gravity powerup and had a nice degree of sucess with it,
Overall lovely game & would love to see more levels! (Maybe adapt into some rogue-like-ish form? Also add a small bullet cooldown or autofire feature!)

thank you :D,

Great suggestions!
