This game is so addictive. Didn't even realise that I was playing for so long. Loved the art and gameplay mechanics. It did bugged later on or maybe it was intended that I was not getting any break time for setting the crops. But I enjoyed

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! It is actually an intended feature. One you hit a certain number of orders (20 or 25 I forget which) it stops giving you time between them so that you have so stockpile a bit before that.

Interesting concept!

I had fun, but I don't think that the movement concept is working. It feels like moving the character is just busy work for the sake of busy work, a Pappa's [whatever]-eria or even a Papers please style interface would have been more suitable for the game.

The crafting mechanic isn't that well explained (well I accidentally skipped the cutscene so maybe it was in there who knows, the cutscene needs a speed up or "go to the next dialogue" option) but once that was figured out it was neat. The names of the combined items were good however. I could deduct what two things needed to be combined from the name alone for the fist time, so thats great.

Was the music made in house? Its alright but feels a bit all over the place.

Developer(+1)

The reason the player movement exists is fairly simple. It's less about busy work, and more about the strategy of how you choose to prepare for the future. The game is also based on another game called overcooked (but of course, is much watered down from that). Also yeah I'm gonna add a way to speed the text up, but yes, crafting was explained in the intro.

Also yeah I made the music lol.

Submitted(+1)

I see. In Overcooked the movement is one of the core experience due to the obstacles and hurdles, which here it isn't present, but I get what you're going for. Maybe even for the jam a simple C shape room or something that would drive the point home better imo.

Developer(+1)

Makes sense, I'll try to fix that in the future.

Once it clicked that I was supposed to premake a bunch of stuff in the downtime, I was having a ton of fun frantically producing everything possible. Text animation and intro/outro cutscenes are a great polish touch , but I would recommend adding a way to speed up the text. Another note I'd have is either increase the pickup radius of stuff or have some indicator that I'm close enough to pick something up. A few times I thought I would pick something up and started walking away only to realize I wasn't close enough and didn't actually grab it. These are minor notes though, overall this manages to succeed on creating the core feeling of this sort of cooking/order prep genre to an impressive degree of polish for such a short game jam.

Developer

Thank you, it means a lot! You can skip the text, but i might be able to add a secondary speed up function as well. I'll have to play around with the pickup and probably add some sort of indicator like you mentioned. Thanks for the feedback!

One of the most fun games I've played thus far. I am not good at it AT ALL, but it was still weirdly addictive in a way I didn't expect for a game so simple. And the portrait art (is that what you call it) for the characters was awesome as well. Amazing work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm building an update as I type this, so I'm hoping you'll consider playing that. It adds a few quality of life changes, such as a notepad to check what fuses into what, and a way to skip cutscenes. I also added a banger of a music track, and I'm pretty proud of it.

Also, yes, you would indeed call that a character's portrait. ;3

Submitted(+1)

I actually had the exact same notepad idea not more than five minutes ago, what a coincidence! Just followed your account, so I think I'll be notified when you post anything new (I never use itch, so I'm not completely sure lol). I'm looking forward to hearing this banger too, you're gonna need some pretty fire songs for a game about hell, haha. Can't wait to see where this thing goes!

Developer(+1)

I just posted it! Idk how itch follows work, so I figured I'd let you know just in case. Anyway, I'd say the song is pretty fire, at least to my personal tastes. ;3

Submitted(+1)

OOOOHH I DID NOT EXPECT THE MOST FIRE THING IN THE HELL GAME TO BE THE BEAT DROP (or beet drop in this case I guess)

Also, itch did not notify me, so thanks for letting me know! If you don't mind me asking, what software did you use to make that song? I've tried making my own stuff for jams before, but I've only ever used Beepbox and Garageband.

Developer(+1)

I used FLStudio to make it. It's a pretty steep price point though...  You can use the trial for free, but you can't save anything in it. If you want to be able to save it'll cost anywhere from 100-500 USD. Realistically though, the minimum is about 200 since you lose a lot from the trial if you only get the $100 version. Beepbox and garage band will probably suit you well for a free DAW. Otherwise, soundtrap is also free, but kinda overused, so a lot of people might recognise it. Glad you liked the song though, I'll probably upload it and the title version of the song to my YT at some point in the future.

The game was really interesting! The gameplay was fun and got pretty stressful after the downtime between orders stopped lol. One thing I wish was added was a way to fast forward the text, it moved really slowly. Overall enjoyed playing it, nice work

Developer

I absolutely agree with the text skip, I'm updating the game now and just finished adding that a little while ago! I'm glad to hear that the end of the game was a bit... Shall we say, hellish? ;)

Submitted(+1)

I liked the concept of the game, except for the many working for the devil refrences. I wish there was also music. The intro was a bit long, but did give story! cool game!

Developer

Thanks! Working on an update now that's going to add music and the ability to skip the dialogue, actually.

Submitted(+1)

This game is fun, altough sadly there is no music. I really liked that you included a dialogue at the beginning. Also, maybe having a recipe list in-game and the crop name above the box would help lol. Great concept and good job with this game!

Developer

Definitely good Ideas, since we can technically update the game, so long as we keep the original available, I think I will probably add those today. I guess that's really just if I have time but we'll see.

Submitted(+1)

I love the collission system in this! I think it plays nice, I think the intro is too long specially when you cant skip it in any way it seems. I feel like the vegetables could have been a bit more intuitive on fusion (for example, have a redberry and a blueberry transform into a devil grape or something purple) Since most of the challenge was on that, the 2 plots at the bottom feel useless too because by the time you have 4 on the field, the first one you palce is already ready for pickup

Developer

Makes sense, I tried to make it really seem like the fused plants were from hell, but I do agree there were definitely some issues with the fusions. In the future, I might try to add more of my original idea, which is doing a sort of biome-swap that would let you go between different places and each biome would have different crops. I really enjoyed making it, even though it might have taken me 9 hours to get the interaction working (as stated in my reply to another comment).

P.S, Don't tell anybody but the collision system totally doesn't just exist so crops don't get stuck inside each other

Submitted(+1)

Interesting concept! I like the wobbly movement of everything. It took me some time to get used to the ingredients and combinations, but it was pretty cool one I got the hang of it. Good job!

Developer

Thank you! Glad to know people actually like this one. I wasn't so sure about it when I submitted, but it's doing pretty well. Out of curiosity, if you don't mind sharing, which ending did you get, or did you get both if you played multiple times?

Submitted(+1)

Oh! I didn't realize there was one! I'll play it again to get to the ending

Developer

Yep, there's 2 endings: If you get above 3000 score, you'll get the good ending, and below 3000 score is the bad ending. Of course, if you get the bad ending it's not really that bad. After all, who would stop loving someone because of a couple of turnips? ;)

Submitted(+1)

Really liked the aesthetic and the concept! Nice work! Felt a little lost at the start even reading the combinations (maybe being dyslexic kinda threw me off XD).

Also felt like the it could have some feedback on how much time it takes to nurture the crops to kinda plan ahead depending on how much time is remaining.

I don't know if there is something implemented about that, but maybe something to speed up the dialogue would be nice as well.

Really minor details, but nice game! Keep up the good work!

Developer

I was really pressed for time (For some reason it took like 9 hours to get the item pick-up working) so I didn't get to spend as much time on tutorial elements or dialogue as I wanted, but I do plan to update this in the future and those are some of the first things on the to-do list! The crop growing could've used a bit of work  too, but I just didn't think of that at the time lol. Thanks for the feedback! Totally gonna fix those things in the future.

Submitted(+1)

Pretty good game. Loved the art style! Would have loved some music though.

Developer

I totally wanted some adaptive music, but I'm only one girl, so I didn't have time for that lol. If I update the game it definitely will have music.

Submitted(+1)

fun game! i love the idea and the farming aspect was really cool! it did get me a while to get the controls and figure out what was what. overall fun though once i got the hang of it! good job :D

Developer

Thank you! I wanted to have a better display for what items were being requested, but time limits and all that. Best I could do was a make a little joke about it in the opening dialogue.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting idea I like how character is moving :), but it gets difficult if you don't know how the food will be in English (really it will be better to do icons near order, but now I know a few new words. Good luck!

Developer

I didn't even consider that non-English speakers would play this, so thanks for the advice! I'm glad my game could help you learn a few words, though.
