Description
A soundtrack written for Lone Rabbit's OST Composing Jam #7 based off the theme "Inside My World". Chiptune tracks were made using FamiStudio and the orchestral track was written within MuseScore.

Pond Tales is an imaginary GameBoy RPG about a young boy and the imaginary world he explores by jumping into a pond by his house. Together with his friends, exploration is a non-stop adventure whether it be helping local wildlife or defeating dangerous enemies. Immerse yourself in the laid-back and fun atmosphere of this world while helping our protagonist go on as many adventures as possible! The game's soundtrack is written in an 8-bit style, with the first track being an orchestral piece for the game's cinematic/animated trailer. For those who are interested, my thoughts on each track are posted on the game's project page.

Message from the artist
Hi everyone, this is my submission for OST Composing Jam #7. This is my first time doing an event like this and overall I had a great time. I'm by no means a good composer yet, but events like these really give me the inspiration to try and take that next step. Thanks for listening and hopefully you find a track that you like!

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I tried to take the theme of "Inside My World" and apply it to myself. Thus, the game's/soundtrack's whole premise is based around the sort of adventures and world I daydreamed about when I was a kid.

It seems like only yesterday I was playing pokemon fire red on my Gameboy Advance :')

This OST was full of very catchy and memorable 8-bit melodies. Title Track and Battle Theme were the standouts in that regard. It was so cute and wholesome and fun. While the Cinematic Trailer on its own merit was well made, it felt out of place compared to the rest of the soundtrack and could be misleading as a trailer. I think if you used some 8-bit synths or sounds in the orchestration it would tie everything together.

The composition, sound design, and cover image were so well made and so fitting for your game concept, that I couldn't help but be charmed by this submission. Great work!

Love that you just took the opportunity to practice something different with the cinematic trailer, though I admit the concept of a cinematic trailer for a gameboy game was quite amusing to me ahaha

Overall solid soundtrack, fun and lighthearted vibes from the Main Town Theme and your Battle Theme slaps! Great work!

The artwork is super cute, too, and that frog is obviously the final boss

Cinematic Trailer: Very pretty intro to the OST! Love the trills.

Title Track: Ooh, a shift to chiptune. Effective!

Main Town Theme: That rhythm is so cool on chiptune percussion.

Battle Theme: This one of them good GB battle themes! Reminds me of the Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana OST. Love love it!

Battle Victory!: Love the addition of a victory jingle. Works great!

Great work!

beautiful chiptune soundtrack with an orchestral intro! really feels like you're underwater. i like how you connected your first track with the rest of your music besides the styles being vastly different. this is definitely one of the higher quality chiptune soundtracks - great job, and i love the musical creativity of your entry!!!

Lovely title theme with emphasis on a clear melody that is recognizable in the followng tracks, too. I love the gameboy-sounds too. Sounds really authentic, and you could have totally fooled me with the gameboy title image you made, haha. Non-threatening vibe throughout fits well with the pond setting. That Battle theme is glorious, too. Very cool harmonies, and the victory jingle in the end made me smile. Fantastic work!

This is some wonderfully done scoring work. But not only limited to the first song. Also, your more Game Boy inspired Songs sounded very well. True to its limitations and authentically done. Bravo!

You absolutely nailed the atmosphere you were going for with this OST :3 That cinematic trailer theme is beautiful and definitely does what you described as it feels wholesome & sweet, but also gets you in the mood for frolics and adventure!

I really like how the Title Track sounds right after the trailer theme. It extends that sense of adventure and amplifies it with more energy, all while maintaining a sense of innocence and good times to come with friends :3

The whole thing is really sweet and carefree. I agree with wt64 about the Ghibli vibes because I got that feeling too!

Clean production, and okay the orchestration of the theme in 'Cinematic Trailer' is so pretty! Love the melody. It's charming and immediatley recognizable iin 'Title Track'. Gives me ghibili vibes! The little waltzy section at 0:50 is so nice :3 and there's a nice amount of variety here. The chiptune's great too, the detail and following a melody. I do think maybe extra counter-melodies background elements could enhance it, but what you have is solid- great job on this!! ^^

Solid chiptune! For your first work, it's pretty good. I kind of wish that the themes could have been a bit more detailed and complex, but it's got a lot of charm. Great job!

Really cool, really bouncy and colourful writing, and incredibly Game-Boy-ish! Fits a GB game just perfectly, brought back a lot of nice memories. That trailer music is just charming as well, and totally appropriate. Nice one!

The cinematic trailer is so charming, and you incredibly fun bits in the rest of the submission! I was grinning from ear to ear the whole time!

There's a lot of charm being put into this for a low stakes Gameboy game, you really nailed the atmosphere of the calm and mellow atmosphere with the chiptune.

I also like you added an orchestral piece for a promotional bit like in old videogames, which I don't see that happen in the JAM

The fact that you used Musescore to make it also surprises me, I didn't know it can be used for making this kind of purpose, great job.

I like that you made a chiptune for this. It was such a nice change of pace and I appreciate you putting in the effort it takes to make that happen. Really stood out to me! The trailer shows that you can write more than just chiptunes too which I think is smart for a competition like this. Good job!

A short but very cool soundtrack. The trailer track is so beautiful, I like it a lot. I don't really have anything special to say actually, some instrument tracks sound a bit weird, but i'm assuming this is due to musescore's VSTs so that's too bad. Impressive composition skills anyway.

Very very nice, this is easily one of my favorite individual tracks on the jam and the whole submission is really solid. I would have liked to hear more in-game tracks.

I realy like the first track !
So cute and nice melodie! Nice work dude

Really nice submission! I love the leitmotif you used throughout, it gives the soundtrack a great authentic old-school feeling. My favourite track is probably the battle theme, definitely reminds me of some of the classic JRPG battle themes like those found in the first few Final Fantasy games. I also love the cinematic trailer theme, a clever way of showing off your excellent orchestration skills while still feeling cohesive with the rest of the soundtrack.

I have one very tiny nitpick, I would have made this an NES game rather than a Game Boy game, as the Game Boy sound chip has some weird quirks and extra features that don't make an appearance in this soundtrack (for example a custom wave channel instead of the triangle channel found on an NES, and the ability to pan sounds to the left or right). I realise that you might not be trying to fit with any specific console's sound capabilities, and really this is completely inconsequential, but I just thought I'd point it out.

Overall this is a fantastic entry, great job!

Don't really have a lot of good criticism to give cause this is just super good! I'm not really experienced with chiptune myself but I think you pulled it off pretty flawlessly, and the decision to do something more orchestral as well must've been tough, but it definitely paid off! Really great stuff overall

I was surprised by the quality of your tracks !

Cute theme, was really surprising that switch to chiptune in the 2nd track but worked well!

Overall great little OST ^^
