Results? What Results?
Maybe the real results were the friends we made along the w-
"mechanized and heavily armed sealife" is such a cool line, I could imagine a metal nautilus shooting bullets out of its mouth in the sea.
I wonder if the kind of game would be a roguelike with puzzle elements mixed in it.
I love the intro for the Mechacanthine being a separate song as you approach the area then going to the next song (which is a banger song).
Honestly, thats alright, your songs are pretty great and the ideas are presented with care and effort. the fact that you were able to do this much along with your personal problems makes your songs all the more special.
Also you should read the summary of 1984, there's a whole lot of similarities with the final boss and the antagonist of the book.
no one ever seen "Big Brother" in the novel but he's in control of the entire world through complete manipulation, it's an incredibly interesting read
the fact that you were able to go in depth through each section of the song speaks volumes of how much love and effort you put into making this one track.
For the imaginary game, I could imagine that you managed to integrate the puzzle solving mechanics with the storytelling by making the silhouette as some sort of guide giving hints to the child protagonist.
The fact that you witheld that the silhouette was actually her mother on your description recontextualizes that she was suffering from grief and that the journey that the protagonist will go through was actually about acceptance.
That even in death, the mother still looks after her children. That she'll be with her throughout her journey.
The message is absolutely heart wenching, and i could imagine what a great game it could be from the soundtrack alone. The fact you created a link between the gameplay and the storytelling is peak. For a song used for the intro scene, it does leave a sepctacular first impression.
Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.
One of the comments said that the songs reminded them of Terraria and I could definitely see that with how you add a little electronic flair to the otherwise orchestral and classical music. the way you experiment with it is well executed especially during the 2nd half of the songs of the soundtrack. It makes me wonder what kind of fantasy world sofia lives on.
Also cool cover art, it looks amazing
I like the fact that you split each song into 2 to convey the situation within the song, like the "buzz merchant" being very chill then "Misbeegotten goods" (nice bee pun there) being more tense in the span of one song, its such a neat way to show each scene and how they connected. "Cavern of dreams" is a very ambient and chill song then when it transitions to "Herald of the Maelstrom" to becoming more rock and roll, its very well made especially how you kept the bells in the first half as the connection, one of my favorite songs. then the vocals for the first half of the final track is cool, then suddenly, it starts getting lyrics with the the guitar accompanying the second half is peak. it's amazing how you connect these two songs that I wonder if you were trying to do adaptive music in your game.
I also love the titles for your songs, they are very charming. and the fact that it's basically a rescue action adventure game is pretty neat.
The cover art is very minimalist yet conveys the underwater theme perfectly with the bubbles, the color choice is also amazing.
I like the japanese plucks in the first half the song, the sound design is amazing. then the transitions to the strings gives it an ethereal vibe in the song. Then the sudden electronic mix with the synths and the bass is immaculate, absolutely spectacular song.
Digimon and early 2000s jungle beats are some of the things I feel nostalgic to and this track nails it hard. the first song especially. The aesthetics go hard, I'm surprised this wasn't rated as much as I expected. The only complaint I had is that there isn't any more of it.
Btw, since the final boss is called "Big Brother", was the novel 1984 another inspiration for the entry? Just curious cause that would be wild if it did.
One highlight for the entire soundtrack is the first song how it calm it sounds with the bells, how it starts building up with the piano then finally shows the full emotion with the strings, a very touching and charming song, that left a great first impression of the soundtrack being the ambient and emotional theme fitting for the game. peak sound design right here.
As much as I like to talk about how emotional and wonderful the song is (like the fact you made this much emotion and storytelling in one single song is enough to be great), I would like to point out how well you analyzed the themes and how you presented it in such a clear and clean way with the board.
I can see how your thought process goes from the explanations and inspirations, mainly how you would think that the game would be a puzzle platformer with emotional storytelling like Celeste. The breakdown of even the title of the song "Tsuya" being part of your explanations show how well-researched are you to make this entire one song count. You did amazing with this track and you should be proud of it.
Now for music, I'm not sure where exactly you will put this in the game, would you put it at the climax of the story? the ending sequence of the game? you could even put it at the title screen as the main menu music lmao. Seeing how you talk and deconstruct the concepts is amazing and something I would strive for.
Amazing work, You deserve all the praise.
The composition here is amazing, I'm surprised that this doesn't get enough ratings as it deserves. Your ideas in composition is amazing.
The windup at the first track is neat and really sets the tone for the entire soundtrack, a great first impression. then big whale circus came along and became one of my favorite songs in the JAM; the circus atmosphere, the synth melodies that take up the 2nd half of the song, it's amazing.
"seamstress" is cool with its strings, it's such a vibe. the way you did with the piano and how distorted it sounds is very nice and the bass for "reattachment" is a treat to listen to. Amazing track
Space Cat Animal-Crossing is such a chill concept, I can already imagine how the game would go from the music alone. Delivery has got to be one of the highlights of the soundtrack imo just from the energy it brings.
the cover art is also amazing, I liked the narrative of a classic isekai adventure into space with cats.
The title was wild, and the concept of a sci-fi revenge take of the theme is crazy. I love it.
The little chiptune flair in the tracks are a great addition like the bitcrushed drums in the Arrival home, it's a treat to listen to the noise alone. The soundtrack feels like its made for a game made in the early 2000s.
I also like the narrative you put in there with the crazy premise you went with, I would like to hear more of your story going forward.
I love your melodic approach to this soundtrack, the motifs are easy to pick up and the instrumentation nails the strange creepy horror aesthetic you're going for, the strings at "crossroads" are my favorite, they literally came in and took over the 2nd half of the song.
Yeah anyways, when you said there was supposed to be an Easter Egg hidden in the cover art, I can't exactly see it but the art looks cool.
You nailed the vibes of a cold and winter track very vividly in the soundtrack, I like how well you use the instrumentation to portray emotion of each track, like the feeling of solitude and loneliness on the "Alone" track. you managed to balance the whimsical nature and the emotional sadness throughout the soundtrack
Now I know that the music style is way different in the songs but the narrative description has a similar plot to the game Celeste; from the fact that the protagonist wants to go to the frigid mountain for self discovery, to the fact that the main antagonist was actually a manifestation of the main protagonist's insecurities, literally fighting yourself. you should try looking that up and have a try, very good game.
It was a pretty ambient and calming soundtrack, I loved the atmosphere you created with the underwater dream-like theme you're going for.
Then Abyssal Nightmare came along and knocked it right out of the park, the dangerous and drowning atmosphere with the low sounding bass makes the song the highlight of the soundtrack.
Obligatory JJK joke uhhhhdomain expansion: abyssal nightmare
Ahh yes, my favorite tag; Toby Fox.
I can see where the inspirations lie so it does make sense. though you do a lot more and add your own flair into them like adding a string section to the Snowdin-like theme "A town of your dreams" and the connecting them together for the next track "Shadow", it's pretty charming.
"Outta my Way" is so similar to that one theme in deltarune chapter 2 and I like the key changes in there. There's also a good influence of Touhou, especially in parts of the melody structure.
Now for "This is My World", I like the fact you mixed two of the most well known instruments together; the megalovania guitar and the touhou trumpet, it's also very well made so I liked it alot.
Now to be a little picky, the amount of bells and shakers used in your soundtrack makes it look like it's winter, maybe that's because of the amount of winter songs that uses these instruments specifically. the cover art is amazing but it doesn't fit imo, regardless, amazing track.
I love the different leitmotifs you used in the soundtrack and how they play off each other in the songs, each song is is pretty short but they are filled with good bits and motifs to follow on.
I like how the last 2 songs on the playlist are in red due to how intense it will get and oh boy they go hard.
Monster bubble was crazy and totally felt like a fan-made undertale boss, great job with the song. 0:27 was also my favorite part of the song
It's Evil Mario 😱😱😱
The bass is the main highlight of the soundtrack, especially the first 2 songs, I don't know whether if its an intended pun or not since uhhhhh the bass is also a fish but said differently. Banger bass, it's such a treat to listen to like a seafood platter on a good evening.
The inspirations you take from the game is very unique, I like the fact that your game is basically one big character customizer but it's fish. the art cover is also pretty cool, it looks like a fish and a paintbrush at the same time
I think you left an incredible first impression with the first song of the soundtrack, it screams "promotional trailer" with the high energy it gives off.
The abundance of ambient songs fit since you are basically making a fps game where the music isn't the full focus of the game and mainly brings the atmosphere. The frequent use of samples throughout your soundtrack is also great and really fits into the theme.
Now when listening to the boss themes, maybe because I haven't played any of your inspirations you mentioned; it kinda fits for a boss in Terraria lmao. Anyways, you did spectacular with the soundtrack and I hope you do more of this.
Still, 20 tracks is absurd, it's incredibly longer than I expected but I fully enjoyed that journey
i love the music commentary you put out for each song in the soundtrack, I'd always like yo hear someones thought process and the different ways you approach with the music theory. Like the fact you use 9/4 for the time signature for your final song, its pretty great. Also like the sudden jazz song for funkwork network, it really helps out.
Finally, shoutout to Don't go phishing for the title name alone, its a good wordplay you got going there
