  • The controls and playability were easy to follow. I found the story to be a bit funny (the "oh you mean water?" part got a small laugh from me). I also enjoyed the incorporation of shadow with the way the light sources were used and put together. Very nicely done being able to show and hide light behind walls to procure shadows as a result. Though, the most that could be said about alchemy, based on my interpretation, comes from the story and completion of tasks where the player attempts to 'transform' back into a human; it was executed well in my opinion. Overall, while I found your artistic endeavors to be constructed nicely throughout my play time, I found the music to be what stood out for me. Not only is it catchy, but I continued listening to it as I typed up this review. All the same, keep up the good work!

Really cute and lovely platformer ! Liked the little bit of humor too. The sprites and sounds also fit each other. One thing that I would've liked is for there to be more puzzly levels like the final one, maybe even harder. Overall, awesome game !

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I do agree with you that I should have put more puzzles and perhaps some additional mechanics to include in those puzzles to make the game better and harder! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to implement more levels which was a bummer :(

Sticking to shadows like your life depends on it!

  • Great art style perfect for a fun little platformer
  • Lighting effects look cool
  • Music was good that didn't overstay its welcome
  • Fun platforming mechanics with sticking to shadows and turning off lights
  • Story was short and sweet with a dash of good humor

Overall, a very solid platformer that was a lot of fun!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I am glad you liked the lighting game mechanics!

Nice concept and shadow mechanic is a good thought one. I also appreciated that you don't die immediately in light. Story is a good addition too.
One feedback i can give is i think jumping feels a little too floaty for a platformer that set in rather small levels. I think shorter jumps and maybe shadowy particles coming up when you land could improve the game's feel a lot. As others said sprites jitter when the camera moves but i'm sure you'll fix that.
Game's length was good for a jam and it left me wanting more, great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I agree that the jumping may be too floaty, especially because of the small levels! In my next games, I will probably take into account how big/small my levels are and adjust those values accordingly.

Additionally, I think shadowy particles would indeed be a great way to polish up the game more!

The sound effects and sprite for the little shadow are so cute. And I love what you did with the dynamic lighting and slowly depleting/recovering health bar. I also appreciate that you had time to add a cute story. Overall a super cute entry!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I’m glad you liked those parts of the game!

I am really fond of the shadow mechanic in this one. Seemed like a pretty complete concept. The only glaring issue was the camera movement making sprites jitter. Other than that, I had a blast.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I’m happy to hear that you liked the shadow mechanic from the game! And yes, the camera smoothing making sprites jitter is a problem that just persists throughout all of my games so I will highly consider trying to put an end to it in my future games!

Not sure if you are using Godot. If you are try switching "Process Callback" to physics on your camera and see if that works

Developer

I am using Godot, and I just tried switching Process Callback to physics, but I still see those jitters unfortunately :(

Hopefully I can find some other solution that will fix it, it’s probably related to issues with the Tilemap and me using pixel art.

Nice platformer, controls are smooth!  I got a robot trapped between me and the wall and he just kept flashing back and forth between left and right.  Maybe have them always face away from you if they can't move.

Developer

Thank you for playing! And yep, I could probably have improved on the robot AI so that they wouldn’t spin rapidly like that sometimes.

Very solid submission. Controls feel appropriate for the levels and all the visuals fit together.
It's actually kinda sad it ended so fast (5:484)!

Developer

Thanks for playing! So sorry that it ends very quickly, I wanted to add more levels with mechanics like blackouts, which the Talking Computer could cause, to help you sneak around the map more which could have made the game more interesting!

heck yeah buddy! nice full cute game, easy to understand and well designed. appreciate that it felt tight and polished.

only thing I wanted, a few jump sounds randomized :P

Gimme more! your writing was great!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I didn’t think about randomizing jump sounds but that will probably be something I will highly consider now when polishing up my games in the future to make things less repetitive for the player!

Nice little platformer with a straightforward mechanic! I like the monotone visuals which make the light effects really pop.
My critique would be that the movement felt a little too fast for me, and the jump also felt a bit floaty. There was potential to introduce a few more mechanics and flesh out the game but I suppose your intention was just a nice simple short story and game.

A nice addition would be ability to restart with a key press (like enter on pause screen) because I had to go to my mouse to click the restart button.

Probably a bug: If you die in the first room (where you become the shadow), you have to start over again from the first dialogue and turn yourself into shadow again.

Overall pretty cool game, fits the theme and  but I wouldn't say it stood out as something out of the ordinary (in my opinion)

Developer

Thank you for the valuable feedback! I agree that there was potential to introduce more mechanics in this game but of course, I was hit with the common issue of time limits in game jams!

I think you’re right that restarting should be easier, I didn’t think about this factor at all, but it would definitely have made the game more player-friendly and less frustrating.

Additionally, the bug that you mentioned about dying in the first room was something that I should have prevented because going through the entire dialogue of the intro again is probably frustrating.
