  • The music, art, and gameplay are all fantastic. Gameplay is fun, interesting, and incredibly enjoyable. Would love to see a little bit of guidance on how things work within the game, but it wasn't too frustrating to figure out and it was learnable. The only thing is there wasn't a deep connection to the shadow aspect of the theme, but you did alchemy incredibly well.

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
As an Alchemist, you've spent your entire life to create something great... and one day, you've succeeded in the making of Homunculus. Will this result in the glory you've always wanted?

Your goal is to help Homunculus evolve by keeping them alive for 40 turns.
You need to feed Homunculus.
Time passes when you do something. Workbench crafting happens in background after started.
Some citizens are threats. Be careful to prevent them from seeing homunculus or something similarly suspicious.
If you die, or homunculus dies, you lose.
Drinking is unlikely to help, but probably won't hurt either. Who knows?

Game is controlled by dragging cards. Some can be combined. When Homunculus gets hungry, they start losing health.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game; it evokes Little Shop of Horrors, Full Metal Alchemist, and Cultist Simulator in an awesome, creative package. Great music and artwork and the mechanics are quite amusing. Really great entry!

Developer

Thank you! That's pretty much what we were going for!

Really loved this game. Amazing art and sound. Took some time to get how it works but it was also quite fun to find the ways of using things on your own and the game kind of wins from the lack of the tutorial.

Developer

Thank you! We were inspired by Cultist Simulator, and figuring out how stuff works was absolutely a part of the fun there.

This is a very nice game, reminds me of a game called 60 seconds. The art is really unique and looks great, the music fits well and the gameplay loops is a fun puzzle. I only really missed a tutorial. It was hard to figure out at the start what you could do with the limited options.

Still very nice concept, well done!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, we had tutorial planned but didn't make it in time and kept changing stuff till last minute(

The name alone makes this game gold in my opinion lmao. But great visuals and fun puzzle solving in there. I love card combining games and this certainly scratches that itch

Developer

Thank youu!

Nice game. I beat it on the first try. I just kept making life giving medicine and combining it with the health card. I had two law men attack it and hurt it, but the health was full at the end.

Yeahh, another card game! I don't think you have anything to envy to ours. Your game is incredible. I had a bit of trouble getting into it at first, but then I got really hooked on the story and the gameplay.
What I love:
- The unique graphic style and the music
- The fluent gameplay experience
- The uniqueness of the gameplay that complete the lore
You managed to create a great unique atmosphere!

What I would love to see:
- A little bit more polish regarding the start of the game. Maybe better visuals (like a written letter effect), maybe  scrolling text for better immersion (or cinematics if you can afford, like fadeout images etc...)
- Maybe better contrast between cards and the rest of the board (like a darker background) => but that's totally subjective
- I like the card art style but sometimes the handmade font was hard to read.

Overall well done!! The playable experience is great, I retried the game even if I managed to reached the end :D

Developer

Thank you, means a lot from fellow card narrative mechanics appreciators) Also thanks for feedback, this makes a lot of sense and will be useful going forward.

Honestly one of my favorites games of the ones I've tested on this jam (around 20 ?). The music is top tier, you made a real work on the ambiance. It really felt like I had a small homonculus at home that I had to take care of. The handmade art fit this feeling, the attention to small animation not so cumberstone is nice. The storytelling is also really well done. The difficulty is on point.

Congrats !

Developer

Thank you! Hope I can keep going with homunculus, there was a lot more moods drafted that I didn't have the time to finish.

Clever game, very cool once we figured out what to do, good puzzle!

Developer

Thank you! We tried to have some logic behind interactions, glad that it came through in some way!

I found this super interesting! I love the premise and vibe of the game, I had a lot of fun with figuring out what the cards do and got a little attached to homunculus haha :')

Developer

Thank you! Homunculus is becoming something of an OC to me, at the tender age of 36. I hope I can do more stuff with them.

Loved the vibe and the concept is amazing. Tho I did die without knowing even why :((

Developer

Thank you! Poison mold should be damaging homunculus, also feeding doesn't equal healing. The player character and homunculus have separate health pools, so one of them depleting means game over. We put in feedback to actions where we could, but some of the vital ones are missing, and we should fix it.

Awesome game, super well executed!

With my contrast settings, it took me a literal minute to see the "next" button on the tutorial text. Light blue/aqua on white is not a great combo 😅

It's the best game I tried in this jam so far, really great job!

Developer

Thank you!
Yeah, should get around to fixing the fonts, it was left to the programmers, so nobody ended up paying attention to text and button design. Something to fix in the future.

The whole presentation of this is awesome, great job guys!

Developer

Thank you! Hopefully the years of jamming are finally paying off.

Loved the game, I lost track of time playing it! Great art, great style and great concept! It was a little tricky once the police got into the 4th quadrant but really cool  game play!

Developer

Really glad to hear you liked it! There were A LOT more cool interactions planned that we just had no time to implement ;( Hopefully will make it happen in the future

Awesome art, great use the genre!

Developer

Glad you like it!

Great game. I love the art and the interactions in the game.

Developer

Thank you! There's much to improve

amazing art! the game loop is really fun, great work!

Developer

Thank you! There's a lot more we had planned, but we are extremely glad what's there works!

The art is fabulous and charming, and the game play is so creative and fun. Even though I died my first try, I still wanted to try a second time to win, since it felt very fair and achievable. I would def play a full release game of this. Only issue was that the aspect ratio/game size was wrong in my browser and some of the game was cut off for me.

Developer

Thank you! We'll look into the aspect ratio, probably I'm at fault for not using something more standard.

Oh I love the intro music... :) also love the art style and the strategic gameplay. You could change the font in the text boxes to make them more appealing, but aside from that the visuals are wonderful, unique and special. Really well done!! This needs way more attention

Developer

Thank you! This was really fun to draw, even more than usual somehow.
