  • This was a short but fantastic experience that showcases a strong foundation for this type of game. The hand-drawn art style is fantastic, the main menu music sets the tone perfectly, and the metal soundtrack during gameplay adds a thrilling intensity. Thanks to my game website reviewer-worthy gamer skills, I got to enjoy the hilarious game-over screen voice-over multiple times, which was a fun touch. During my playtime, I unfortunately encountered a bug that prevented me from completing the game. Even at maximum velocity, I clipped through the giant, panicking butler goblin (boss) and kept going into the void until I reloaded the page. I attempted this process multiple times with the same result. Some areas for improvement would be adjusting the hammer’s hitbox, which does not align with the player model. This misalignment made navigating obstacles at the tail end feel unfair at times. The camera also felt too zoomed in, and since it follows the hammer’s movement, the constant up-and-down motion was a bit nauseating. It also made it more difficult to anticipate obstacles like stalagmites and stalactites. A more stable camera perspective might improve the overall experience. While I didn’t look up what Southern Development Bank Notes are, I still scoured through the extensive GDD. The level of detail and character in the GDD is impressive, especially with the amount of commentary from the development team. Since you’re not afraid of adding details, I’d recommend including images or GIFs to showcase mechanics and enemies, similar to what you’ve displayed on your itch.io page. This would make the GDD even stronger, though this is just a minor suggestion. One thing to note is that the GDD still marks multiple already completed stages as “in progress,” which suggests it hasn’t been updated to reflect the current state of the game. This should be addressed for clarity. "Til Death Do Us Part" has fantastic qualities but ultimately remains a prototype. Once the issues are resolved and more levels are added, I have no doubt that it will evolve into an outstanding game. It already has a strong foundation and serves as a solid proof of concept. I truly hope you continue developing it further, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for this game!

The art is incredible! Especially the hammer, that face is just hilarious. Wish I could even do anything close to that! The music is very nice too, together it give a very nice vibe to the whole game! It's just very sad to see the game in such a state, if it's more finished it will certain be one of the better ones in the jam.

After that's out of the way, I would say having a fixed camera would really benefit the game. Currently once the hammer is in a high position, it's quite hard to notice what's at the bottom of the level, and it really hurts the gameplay. And it's pair with the fact that the hitbox of the hammer is very large. I may be over guessing but it seems like it's just the bounding box for the whole sprite. I would suggest it being more generous to something like slightly smaller than the handle + the head.

Anyway, keep on making games and keep up the good work!

I love the textured art! Also seems like you all had a lot of fun with it, I really enjoy the voice lines. (mentioned the same bug about the goblin at the end, but I see that is a known issue!)

Overall a very charming game! Great Job! :D

Love the handdrawn style. I think it would be improved if you had maybe like 3 HP or something, so us people who are horrible at the game are able to see more of it without needing to get the game over screen burned into our sad eyes

Also, sick shreds. 🎸🎸

Developer

We have the very talented Vorpalbug and Krisu to thank for that.

"I think it would be improved if you had maybe like 3 HP or something, so us people who are horrible at the game are able to see more of it without needing to get the game over screen burned into our sad eyes"

Great Idea! That should definitely happen once the judging is finished.

So the guy that did the music (James Ford) just released an EP. Let me know if you're curious, and I'll hit you up with a link to it.

Fantastic illustrations. Voice acting is hilarious. Just feel like I'm unsure of the hit box for the enemies and the hammer. Sometimes I could get the goblin but it doesn't feel like a dash so it gets confusing and then before the second goblin gets into camera I die? There was a run where I killed first goblin but still died after I passed above him. Overall all the good vibes are there and it would be a great vibe as a full game.

Vorpalbug and Krisu did an awesome job!

I wasn't expecting anyone to compliment my voice acting. I literally put my phone in a sock and started rambling things I thought would make the rest of the team laugh (a bit like how I wrote the GDD, to be honest).

I've written down the hitbox issue; we will 100% address this as we improve on the game. Do you think it would help if dashing was over a  longer distance or even  taken out entirely?

Lol. Well your voice acting was hilarious and sometimes having fun like that turns out very well! Omg I never thought about a sock over my phone to muffle the extra noise. I did that on an old mic but the thought never transferred.

With my playthrough the dash was only the hammer doing the grin and no speed up movement if that makes sense? I say definitely keep it but possible add a bit more distance. Just my opinion though.

Developer

Thank you.

Noted!

Do you have any idea when the judging is over so we can apply the fixes?

I believe it is mentioned for the fourteenth but I normally put a few days extra buffer in my expectations.

Art with a lot of personality. At the end of first level i just phased through the big goblin and continued to the blue.

Developer

Vorpalbug and Krisu did such a great job on the art. We were so lucky to have professional illustrators on the team.

The idea was that the final goblin was supposed to trigger a (when hit Trigger level complete scene), but it went awry, and we didn't have time to fix it before submission.

Sæll Óðinn!
Very cool art and premise, Also, enjoyed art section of  gdd.

Too sad you've encountered a bug at the last minute .

Developer

Thank you, fellow GDD reader. <3

Fun game! Music was awesome, and I really loved your hand drawn art style. I hope you will continue working on the level generation so that the game can keep going until the player game overs. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :)

We've decided to do just that and joined https://itch.io/jam/improve-my-game-jam-37 to fix everything.

Art / music is EPIC! I'm not sure if it is a bug but I can't get the level complete - I seem to go through the last goblin?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! :)

You are 100% correct about the bug. The last goblin was supposed to trigger the level complete screen. But unfortunately, we had a script error at the very last minute, so we had to upload it as is.

However, we are already discussing joining the https://itch.io/jam/improve-my-game-jam-37 to see how we can fix it.

Loved the presentation. The hand drawn assets were charming, fantastic illustration! Music was fantastic too. Had a load of fun!

Developer(+1)

I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

We are going to be all talking about what to do with the game today, actually, to see what we do with it now.
