  • Thanks for your entry into the game jam! I had zero issues playing this game! Amazing graphics and art style! The background and foreground art worked really well together! Sound design was amazing as well. Sound effects and background music served to enhance the theme and setting! Controls worked great and all text was well paced and perfectly legible. Enjoyed the story as well as its twist! Overall amazing work and very well polished! Extra kudos for not over scoping and keeping it to a tight story!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Mechanics:
Move around and interact with objects to reveal the story bit by bit.

Story:
You wake up in a top secret underground bio weapon laboratory. The alarm is ringing and everyone is dead, except for you. You don't remember what happened. Your goal is to exit the laboratory before the monster kills you too.

Controls:
Move: A & D or Left Arrow & Right Arrow
Interact: Space or F
Drop From Stairs: S or Down Arrow

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You wake up in a top secret underground bio weapon laboratory. The alarm is ringing and everyone is dead, except for you. You don't remember what happened. Your goal is to exit the laboratory before the monster kills you too.

The monster is a national level threat bio weapon.

There are 2 endings, choose wisely!

Gameplay Time: Approximately 5 minutes per ending.

The game fits the theme because of a very uniquely packaged plot twist. Enough said, no more spoilers!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Movement Keys:
Note that the movement is very smooth. The latest button pressed is the one with highest priority. There is basically no frame where the player stops moving when changing movement keys.

2 Endings:
Please take your time to play both endings, we put alot of effort into it. Thanks!

I can say for sure that between all games submitted that I've played for this jam - this is absolutely my favorite. It feels like a really nice demo which reminded me of Distraint. Played both the endings and the theme interpretation is nice. I only wish it would last longer. It was that good that I wanted to continue playing, awesome job. Understandably, given the time frame you did best you could but in the end where the "ending story" was, would wish for more visuals and interactions but even with this approach you managed to create an immersive game and thats the main thing I loved about the game. Art, SFX & music were executed perfectly IMHO. Especially the audio part was giving such a nice immersion. Another thing I can mention is great font selection. Readable & fitting. That is one of my main comments for other games that either there is a default font that usually doesn't fit or it is barely readable. Massive kudos to the team for amazing work, I really enjoyed the game!
UPD: Possible small UX improvement that could be added is keeping the objective visible at all times. You already have great transitions and show the objective "loud & clear" but then it fades away. Maybe instead of fading it could be minimized and stuck somewhere at the corner just so that the player can always get a glimpse of what is the objective ? Like a small non intrusive note.

Interesting little story game. The sound design was awesome too, lots of cool sounds that elevated the immersion. If the theme wasn't known (as other comments already said), the twist wouldn't have been so easily figured out 🤣🤣 I played through both endings, and it was nice that you could opt out of going through the exit and backtrack to discover the alternate ending - where the world was saved. Awesome entry!

Really cool  narrative game. The worldbuilding and environment art was excellently done. I got the two different endings and the plot twist was truly gut wrenching... Great work!

Developer

Thank you for playing!!

Developer

Thank you so much, and for playing both endings!

This was a really cool game. I'm not usually one for story based games, but I like how interactive it was it kept me way more enthralled than something like a visual novel would. I am terrible at predicting twists and plot turns and stuff so I did not see the ending coming at all lol. Great job on this!

Thank you so much!

Much appreciated, we all worked very hard for creating a smooth game and story experience!

Nice game, I saw this ending coming. It reminded me a bit of a short animated film "Memories" (second episode) . I don't know if it was part of your inspirations.

Developer(+1)

Thanks you! We all brougth our thoughts together as a team and maybe Memories was a source of inspiration.

Very nice interactive novel. I enjoyed it. If anything it was a bit short and

Spoiler don't click the theme gave away the ending. I was thinking "how does this fit the theme?" when it hit me
I would have preferred mouse controls, but that's just a personal preference. Liked the art, sound design and music are spot on. Well done
Developer

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Mouse controls were in discussion during development but it didn't quite make sense. However it might be implemented in the future.

What an incredible game! It delivers on all aspects The art and story is insane for this short of a time period!

Developer

Wow thank you!

Developer(+1)

Thats nice to hear, have you played both endings?

Submitted(+2)

Very good! Adventure games are a hard genre to do for jams and this one executed on all fronts. The Art was good and the Audio was great. Didn't run into any bugs either. Good job!

Developer

Appreciate it!!

Thanks alot, love it when you like it!

This is a really well-crafted game. Your visuals and sound design are amazing. I really like the story you guys have written here, no matter how short. The art style and gameplay give me Space Quest vibes, and I dig it. You have an amazing team here. Amazing game!

Developer

Thank you!!

Developer

Thanks alot! That makes us happy to hear!

the production on the some of the moments in the story are really well done, and i was invested to survive. the writing was funny enough as well!

I do thing the game loop became a bit repetitive, but the experience was short so that is okay. I wish I could have seen the Abomination :D

Developer

Thank you for the feedback sir!

Developer

Thanks alot, glad you enjoyed the story! Haha in that case we might put the abomination into the game some day ;)

What a fun game, thanks for sending it to me! The art style is very charming and reminds me a lot of the early 2010s, and the main character's lack of empathy for his coworkers was super interesting to me - very characteristic of apocalypse horror. I also really loved how you programmed the credits screen, and the ASDF control scheme!

(My biggest note is that the main character says he's on the second floor, then goes up the stairwell for 3 or 4 floors before exiting on the first floor - which isn't a big note at all, but I figured I should point it out!)

Developer

Thank you for playing it!

Developer

Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! Also good to hear that you liked the features of the control scheme and credits!
The thing with the stairwell is that the floors have multiple sub-rooms in between, but we might adapt it to make more sense in the future.

Absolutely charming game, I managed to save the world! Love the art style and storywriting. It played really smoothly too and I had no issues finding my way around with the visual cues. This was an awesome experience.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying it!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks alot, happy to hear you enjoyed the story and art style, we invested alot of effort into making it feel responsive and lively ;)

Very well done. Art and story top notch. Knowing the Jam theme kind of made the twist not as twisty but still good.

Developer

Thank you!!

Developer (1 edit)

Haha you're right, thanks.
